Possible Snow

Post by I35hockey »

If the game is postponed on Friday night, it will be played at noon on Saturday at Gustavus.

I think even with all the conflicts with others associated with Albert Lea Hockey, there will still be a good crowd for them......hope everything works out with the goalie situation.

upucker, good luck with the squirts this weekend.

Good luck to A.L.

AL vs East foster18

Post by Th0r2412 »

East had already smelled it out before your posting. It
doesn't matter to them who's in goal, they're going to
GAC ready to play hockey. Should be a great game.

Josh (SLP Coach)
Thank you. It was a tough loss and it sucks that I'll never get to put on the purple and white jersey again, but Albert Lea deserved to win that game, they came out ready to play and it took us a period to get anything going. Heh, my goal.. woulda been nice if I wouldnt have screwed up my breakaway. Would have been a 4-2 game then instead AL went right back down and scored.

AL has the advantage in coaching with Nystrom. Too bad
for East none of their players have played on any other
teams outside of Mankato or for and against any other
coaching styles to get exposure to all the different traps,
defenses and forchecks AL's going to throw at them. But
I know they've been working on a secret play they call
the 'flying V'. See they form this 'V' with the tall Drysdale
kid at the pt. of the V and then hide the shorter Wenzel
kid in behind ---oops I gave it away! It doesn't matter
it's an unstoppable play. They've also been working extra hard on their triple diekes in practice, you know 1 deike, 2 ---

How to counter the FLYING V. Tony Dugstad hits them in the center like a bowling ball a little to the right and knocks em all down, we in A.L. call it the STRIKE.

Game Still On

How can the game still be on if Mankato was closed today? I thought that was a Minnesota State High School League rule.

Just an FYI: Albert Lea schools were closed, not due to roads (they would have just been late), but 2 schools lost power due to wet snow.

So both teams have been sitting around all day........advantage to either team?????? I guess we'll see.

Should be a good one......My prediction is:

Albert Lea 6
Mankato East 5

re:AL vs East

In the 1st minute of the Windom playoff game Wenzel was driven against the boards at an awkward angle by
a Windom player. Wenzel could hardly crawl over the
boards to get into the bench. I got that sick feeling that
East's chances for state may have just have taken a big
hit (no pun intended). It turned out to be a severe groin
muscle pull. He played at about 60% for the West game
and about 75% for the AL game. You noticed he didn't
have that extra gear to go around and by people like he
did in the 1st AL game. I realize AL's defensemen played
a better game Friday night than in the 1st East game. That
was partly due to the effort to protect their goalie. Hat's
off to them. A healthy Wenzel would have still have been
able to exploit AL's young goalie more.
The way the refs stepped in to affect the outcome of a
great game like this is pathetic. Thanks MW. Baseline ref
calls a goal for East. The other 2 refs by the blueline make
no call. They slowly skate up to the net and discover it's off. A 1 minute conference takes place by the scorers
table, NO GOAL! As a ref in a game like this you can't let
the players or coaches make the calls for you. If they
didn't clearly see the net come off before the goal they
can't make that call. The way they made the call shows
they thought the net 'might' have been off. That was a
very poorly handled decision. Also 1 penalty in the whole
game for AL! They ain't 'that' well coached or 'that' clean a team. Just ask Lourdes.
AL fought hard and won the game, but they got some
help. I hope they do a good job against that manufactured
bunch from Breck, but I think it's going to be a long after-
noon for 1a. East was the better team this year and had
a better chance for a respectable showing. Especially with
5 more days for Wenzel to heal. Fate stepped in to help
with AL's bad luck and give them at least a shot to go. The
stripes stepped in with enough poor decisions to seal the
deal.

Saw the game and the ref's blew MANY calls on both sides, especially the taller referee. He probably couldn't pull the whistle out of his ... How in the world did that guy end up in a section championship game? You do have to call cross-checks to the head. How about Mankato players, after falling on the ice, covering the puck with their hands? BTW, I didn't care who won the game.

Didn't matter anyway because AL didn't score a pp goal. In fact, they played worse on the pp than at even strength.

Mankato had numerous chances in the OT to win the game but couldn't put it away. Albert Lea did, with 1.2 seconds to spare.

Fun game to watch and good luck to section 1a at state.
