That's true edgeon about small towns need all the help they can get. But what I was saying about EGF benefitting more is that the community is benefitting more as far as dollars being spent in the community before and after the game.

Concessions and revenues generated at the arenas themselves is another issue and you may be right there.

The State High School League is getting a major chunk of the gate, and rightly so ... they flip the bill for the big show.

Bottom line: if you polled all the fans ... where would they choose? section 8a
i think they should just keep rotating because some of the nice rinks are like warroad, EGF, TRF, and theres some ok ones like DL and crookston

ching-out
Videoscout I don't think you understand that in 2001 when I went to EGF (civic center i think) other then cofee a meal at the big M and some gas (maybe 40.00) my wife spent lots of money in much larger Grand Forks N.D. The point is that $40.00 ment more to E.G.F. MN. then the money spent in N.D. I also do believe that after all coaches and players were polled you'ld find them rotateing as they do. I wish all small towns had large enough rinks to host the tourney so every school got thier turn.

I have the perfect solution!!!!
Hold the 8AA playoffs at the mini-ralph and the 8A playoffs at BSU no home ice, both centrally located (for the most part) how does this sound to all you folks?

Wait until BSU gets their new rink (should start to be built this summer, fingers crossed) and then hold some of the games there.

Re: I have the perfect solution!!!!
I totally agree that the 8AA champiosnhip should be played at the mini-Ralph at least every other year. Let the southern schools and fans enjoy a bus ride occassionally. It makes the most sense to have the class A tournament in TRF every year, but that will meet alot of opposition from EGF and Warroad. One thing I find unfair about the Gardens, and it is a great arena, is the Olympic size ice-sheet. I feel they have the greatest home ice advantage when the tournament is played there. Could you imagine playing a full football season and then playing your play-offs on a field that is noticeably wider than the one you have played all year on. Maybe the larger ice sheet isn't a big deal, but it seems to me it would be.

TRF
When Thief River was finishing the Ralph they went to the section and asked if they could host the tourney this year as a way to show off their arena. EGF would not budge as they thought at that time that they had a legitimate chance to beat Warroad and go to state. They did not want to give up home ice advantage this year. I think TR would be a central spot for the teams in section 8a, but you will never get everyone to agree with that. If they couldn't even trade spots for one year with EGF its not going to happen with Warroad down the road.

Paying for it through concessions
I know they overspent on the project give someone 10 million and they don't plan for a 6 million dollar rink and money to run the place-spend it all and more and expect everyone to pay the price. I'll be damned if I go to TRF every year and spend a Buck and a Half for a Hot Chocolate made from a packet of Swiss Miss as well as a Three Dollar Hot Dog, a Four Dollar Taco thingy with no meat and a Buck and a Half Water. Hell there even charging the coffin dodgers to walk in there...Ralph would be proud. So since it's so nice and expensive to go to a game there let's have it there every year<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/grin.gif ALT=" >D"> ...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... smokin.gif ALT=":smokin">

ice-no water
Video you said that home ice is'nt water(or something like that) Thats not what ALL of the couches and players that I know would say. What you say??

trf all the way
YOU DON'T HAVE TO EAT AT THE RALPHIE. I'M SURE YOU COULD EAT A SACK LUNCH IN THE PARKING LOT. YOU SOUND
LIKE YOU'RE A LITTLE BENT OVER THE THE IDEA OF SOME OTHER TOWN GETTING SOMETHING BACK FROM SOMEONE WHO WAS RAISED THERE.KNOW MATTER WHAT YOU SAY IT IS THE NICEST AND MOST COMFORTABLE RINK IN THE SECTION AND IT WOULD BE A GREAT PLACE TO SHOWCASE THE SECTION TOURNAMENT.

It's a no Brainerd ... their rink is too small
Let me ask you this then. If you were situated in a private helicopter equal-distanced from each of the aforementioned rinks nominated to host the tournament (8A) which rink would you rather watch the game in (and Rams1981 ... I would buy your food for you)?

I retract the home ice thing when it comes to Warroad, as they do have an Olympic-size rink and that's precisely why they should be eliminated as an option. Every other rink in the Section has 200' X 85' except Warroad.

I believe Crookston would have beaten Warroad in the 2000 8A Championship had that game been played at EGF or TRF. Crookston had to play EGF in 2001 in EGF for the championship. You don't see Crookston complaining do ya?

My point is ... why not showcase a great tournament in the best facility period?

Ever notice that Warroad and EGF have dominated since Roseau left? TRF hasn't been a threat.

Bottom line is the only ones against this live in EGF and Warroad (8A).

You same people would argue this if the Xcel Energy Center was in Thief River Falls ... and that to me, my friends ... is completely absurd.

<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat"> - "There are only two families in the world, the Haves and the Have Nots." --- Cervantes, Don Quixote, II

I din'nt know
Bisket--Bisket--Bisket-- I didn't know there was a never close by. There are a lot of rich people from small towns. I wish a lot more would remember where they came from. I'll bet the tourney could rotat more from town to town. WHY OH WHY should'nt everyone get there tuun.(if they have the ability)

The Ralph
Why settle for the "little Ralph" and not the big one. Play the A & AA on a Thursday night or Saturday afternoon, and I am guessing you could reach near capacity. That way, no one benefits from home ice. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

RLF the new RaLF
No I'm not anti-Warroad. Haven't you been reading the 8A/8AA dominatrix matrix thread?

Let's do this then; make everyone have an olympic size rink. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/eek.gif ALT=":eek">

... or better yet ... let's host it in Red Lake Falls.

<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

Re: The Ralph
still doesn't make sense that after all these years of putting on quality section tournaments you drop 2 towns that have supported section hockey for years because now one town has built a new arena. Like I said before, Eastside and Warroad will have their day with new and better arenas so give it time and see what happens. Things are only improving in this great game of hockey.

WHO
Video Iwas only going by uour remarks on this thread. Do you know how disides where the tourney in each section will be held from year toyear? Is'nt it all of the couches? I do think there are certain requirements set forth by the league that they have to follow???

Ask Hal, Jr.
I don't know the answer to that question for 8A. I know in 7AA the coaches decide on the venues. They choose the DECC most of the time, and once in a while ... Hibbing Memorial.

You may want to ask that question to someone who is reading this and knows the answer to your question.

I would assume the coaches have a say, but since there are 3 venues involved it may have been decided by some committee years ago on the rotation.

<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat"> - "Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!" -- Old Testement, Isaiah, V, 21

Re: The Ralph
I like puckguys train of thought in having a top flight facility (and the Ralph is the best) to host Minnesotas class HS teams. But its the wrong state! We need to keep the $ in Minnesota. Right? <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... lasses.gif ALT="8)">

Thanks Video, I'll buy at Frank's
Hey, with that I can buy at least a couple of rounds for us at Frank's if you pick up the grub at Lil Ralphie. Seriously, the guy shouting what's that all about. Can't take a little rubbin'...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/eyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes"> Hold on though, Warroad's own Nostradameus (I been amazed at his predictions, they are accurate) has declared that we will have a third ice sheet NHL sized and nicer than the Lil Ralph in less than ten years. Do you then hold it there every year because it's nicer facilitites or is it a location, location, location issue for you. I don't think LOW would complain with a 35 mile trip versus 90 or 150, right now their big beef is the Oly sized rink. Also, heard Roseau may be putting up a monster in the next few years, compliments of a couple of successful businessmen-then what do you do?.....<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... smokin.gif ALT=":smokin">

"lil' Ralph
I agree with the notion that the section finals should be moved to the lil' ralph, at least for a couple years to see how it goes. St. Cloud is a good rink but just hasn't been getting the crowds to make the atmosphere worth the drive. Even with 3500 people at the moorhead game, the size of the rink, size of the croud, and the size of the sheet made the whole game kind of dull. I remember the section games in Thief River at the Huck when you had sections playing after each other and the atmosphere was wonderful. It would be nice to be able to see other games and other crowds at the games. This would give everyone a chance to see the teams and familiarize themselves with them before the tourney. I say give it a try!

change of venue
This topic was brought up by former DL coach Bruce Raboin last year at the spring coaches meeting for 8A. He felt that TRF was the most centrally located for ALL 8A teams and by far the nicest facility. He was attacked by Eades and of course Scanlon said nothing. As long as Eades is the chair of that group, the tourney will rotate. Sad state of dictatorship!

couches vote
the couches do vote on where the tourney is held.hey RAMS -- if roseau gets a new rink will they opt. to go single "A" and play in the league that was designed with them in mind.(and others with schools thier size, not ment to be a slap) The Minn. H.S.League would definatlly benifit on the amount of gate money they recieve from tourn. play. I hope they do get a rink!! It's good for hockey. Video I still say that home ice is a big plus.(zip my lips)
