I agree it is important to keep dollars in State, but the football play-offs do go to the Alerus and Fargodome, out of sheer convenience of having a domed stadium.

I think the same arguments could be stated for hockey. You go to the top facility in the area, and set up a deal to return a portion of the profit to the leagues. I still think you could get 6,000-7,000 for a doubleheader in a fabulous facility.

couches ... er ... sofas .... easy chairs vote!!

Post by Videoscout »

Yes it is (home ice advantage) for East Grand Forks and Warroad. Thief River Falls has yet to prove that theory.

As far as the Eades/Raboin issue ... I highly doubt that took place; even if it did ... and the coaches vote on it ... Eades vote counts only as one - same value as other coaches (or "couches" as edgeon puts it).

I like that name: couches ... I'm surprised bluesbuddy didn't coin that name first.

<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat"> - "Where there is no vision, the people perish." - Old Testement, Proverbs, XXIX, 18

That is one story that has slipped by me. I'm not sure where you got your info, but I hope you are right. On the other hand, it would be tough leaving old Memorial, lots of memories and history. Again, I don't see the single A tourney going to just one site, but I would like to see 8AA rotating venues. I have never quite understood why the championship is played in the farthest point south in Region 8AA, especially since St. Cloud is definately not a hockey hotbed. I would dare say that Moorhead probably had more fans at the championship game than Tech. I know Roseau had considerably more fans in '99 than Apollo. If those games were played farther north, you would encompass hockey fans who enjoy a great game no matter who is playing and I believe there are few of those fans in the St. Cloud area.

Hey G & W

Was talking with some guys at the district in TRF in Feb and the topic of a new rink came up, won't name names right now but I think you can figure out who the successful guys are they have a whole pile between them. Would be absolutely great instead of all the fund-raising hassles even though it's been successful they've had in the past. Compared to the Lil Ralph the Trophy Room could be a hockey historians paradise.....<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... smokin.gif ALT=":smokin">

nothin to it

To my knowledge there is nothing to a new rink in Roseau. Putting in a new ice making plant, as well as boards and slab in Memorial this spring. Memorial is more than good enough, besides (who will pay for the O & M) for a new rink? The city tax payers? Think NOT! We already support three rinks (if you include the school rink).

Memorial is the place to be (not Hibbing though)

Section finals at Memorial? That would be great ... we'll have to hook up all kinds of cameras throughout the venue, up in the rafters with the sparrows (see Nat'l Hockey Center) and then show the game closed circuit at the Legion (across the street)and Frank's and Main Street Bar & Grill (thanks to that guy from Middle River)<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

That way we would be able to accomodate the onslaught of hockey aficionados that will perpetuate the region.

<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat"> - (like Bluesbuddy)<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... rassed.gif ALT=":o">

Host

Post by Warroadice »

Why don't we just find a place to play that isn't far but isn't home ice for anyone. I hate seeing the host team in the finals cause no matter how you look at it, there is home ice advantage. You cant just put it in TRF cause they have a nice arena, yeah its wonderful there by why give them home ice every season?I wouldn't mind seeing them play in Roseau even, close to most of the towns and its not home ice, maybe to close to Warroad though so who knows, might as well keep the set up we got now I guess

Big Ralph or new BSU rink

Post by kranky »

Hey zer0, that would make one heck of a road trip. Do you think V-Scout, Slappy or Blewz Buddy would bail us out after the post game rendevous? I'd rather see it in Bemidji if they build a new rink for BSU (they could do 7AA too), then we'd have a chance to get outta town alive.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... >kranky at: 3/9/04 10:31 pm
