I agree with your picks. DC vs. DM should be a great game. DM is better than DC, but DC always gives it their all against DM. Another great game tonight for the Duluth area should be DD vs. Hermantown. The best game to see by far would be Duluth Marshall vs. Duluth East. That would be a great game, the DECC would be packed. Why don't these two teams play each other?

East

Post by ptown tigers »

Thats a Good Question, Maybe East is scared to lost to a Single A team. Not likely, but that is strange seeing as how they could get some competition in the Duluth Area, instead of playing Denfeld... Even though DD did give them a run for their money, my guess is east was just overlooking them. Who knows though.

Re: East

Post by MKMB »

I know that DM and East used to play each other every year, but then it stopped. I know that every year DM got closer and closer to winning. The last year that they play each other i guess that DM only lost by two goals. And that was awhile ago, and DM is a way better team. One thing for sure is that would be a great game.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... mb>MKMB at: 2/28/04 12:39 am

Hiilltoppers crushed Duluth Central 7-0--game was over after the first period--Marshall's 3rd and 4th lines played rest of the game. Hermantown did the same thing to Denfeld 7-0.

PC v. P-Town

Post by ptown tigers »

Princeton 9- PC 2. Princeton basically demolished PC tonite, Schneider got a 3 goals, Ross 2, Haataja got 1, McCrea 1, Duffner 1, King 1.

PC was just out matched they have a couple of great players in Gross, Brandt, Samulson, and that freshamn # 20 im not sure of his name. But they could not do it all by themselves, Princeton was just to deep for the overmatched Dragons.

On another note The tigers take on a VERY tough Hermantown team tommarow night in Princeton at 6 o Clock. We shall see what the tigers are made out of then.

marshall - east

Post by findthetwine »

East hasnt played Marshall for a very long time, and if i remember correctly every time they used to play the scorers were around 20, 25 - 0... Then Marshall started recruiting the Duluth area kids, and like most schools up north, not many want to play Marshall because they are going after their kids, teams in Lake Superior Conference only play them for tha treason, because they are in the same conference, and if you look at Marshalls roster its mostly East kids, so theres not very good blood between the two. And why would you say the Decc would be packed for a Marshall- East game? Marshall doesnt have that money supporters wouldnt be anymore than say last year when East played Central when Central was hot and East was down, East won the game 3-1.

Game Time???

What Time is the game on Tuesday Between Superior and Duluth Marshall?? That one should be a real good one as Superior won the Hilltopper Classic over the Winter Break.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... 33Three at: 1/17/04 11:38 am

They are talking about last year. This year was a 8-1 score but last season Central almost knocked East off in a tuff game.

Re: East vs. Marshall

Post by MKMB »

I know a lot of people from Marshall and East, and a lot of people would show up. Marshall does not have a lot of students, but almost all of the school would be there. I know for a fact that a lot of students and teachers from Marshall talk about playing East. All i am saying is that it would be a great game. Also how can you say that Marshall recruiting students? Most of the school is East kids, not just the hockey players. Marshall would not be a school if it did not have any kids from the east area. Every sports team is made up of players from all over. Also a lot of the hockey players come to Marshall in 9th grade, when alot of kids come. You also have to talk a test to get in, and have to have great grades to get in. When you look at Marshall you realize that it is made up of kids from all over Duluth and surrodunding areas. It is not recruiting, it is just kids wanting to go to a school in the area, which they have the right to do. Also barley any one said anything bad about Marshall hockey until they went to state, then suddenly they are recruiting. Just because you are a private school does not mean you recruite.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... mb>MKMB at: 1/17/04 2:24 pm

kiddin?

Post by findthetwine »

you have to get absolutely no where near great grades to get into marshall and a 3rd grader could pass the entrance exam. You can argue that theres no recruiting, then you can get some common sense, or, talk to some of the kids around the area that have been recruited and refused. If you want a list I can give you plenty of names, now, Thats fine since they dont have a feeder program, but thats why private schools are wrecking Minnesota High school hockey everywhere around the state... Marshall is good, but theyre not " excepetional" all they do is weaken Central, East, and Denfeld. Thats why everybody holds a grudge, and why not? Thats my 2 cents and I think anybody that grows up playing with their best friends, then stabs them in the back and transfers cause they think they ahve a better shot are a bunch of panzys that dont have the heart to battle with the kids theyve grown up with.

Do you know who has been recruiting, coaches or former Marshall players? There was an article from the Duluth news tribune last year about this. Also if you have names alright who are they. What players on the team right now have been recruited? I might be wrong, but all i know is that almost the whole school is made up east area kids. How can you know who was recruited and who was going to go to Marshall no matter what? Why would any player want to go to Marshall when they could stay at East? East is better at hockey. They are known through out the state. It has to be more than just hockey, maybe they want to go to Marshall for the education. I do feel bad for Denfeld and Central if they lose any players to Marshall. I do wish Denfeld and Central the best of luck. I do know some people who have gone to Marshall that are from Denfeld and i know the main reason was the education. Please give me info if you have it, i would like to know. I know some kids that were called or approached by Flaherty at the summer STP program a couple years back, I wont say any names and its no big deal. Yeah, the thing in the newspaper was about how Flahertys step son Casey Yoder called the Three kids from Ely, trying to recruit them to go their school, how a highlight tape was sent out to many kids that had no thoughts on ever going to Marshall. Its really no big deal but thats the truth, thats why teams dont want to play marshall, if you were East would you want to give a team the oppurtunity to play you when half the kids on Marshall should be playing for East. Its a lose lose situation. If they win, theyll say, yeah they were supposed to, theyre "AA", if they lose, itd be just a huge ordeal, no need to play them. Look, the thing is I graduated from a public school in Duluth and it wasn tmy class that was hurt my Marshall but a couple years before that, when Kilby and Swanson were on the team, if you remember correctly Central still beat Marshall that year but just imagine if they woulda still had that firepower, the year before that Chris Hood, Tony Tomino. Its just a bunch of ifs ands and buts but its just somethin that sticks with me. I respect your opinion on the matter and Im not gonna argue the whole private school, public school agenda cause nothing will change the way I look at the matter.

I respect your opinion too. Like i said i do feel bad for Central and Denfeld, but not for East. It would suck having players leave to go to Marshall. I myself went to a Duluth public school. I just don't want people to blame it on the school its self. Marshall is a good school.

Best team is a toss up, DM is prob the best RIGHT now. But come playoffs, if I was a betten man, I think the only safe bet is Denfeld, Moose, Sartell, Sauk, and Proctor will not win. Besides that Its anyone's guess. DM, SCC, and Princeton all seem to be playing well and have good depth, Gross, Brandt and Samuelson could carry PC and make a run for it. Same with Mora and Corbett, Grabowski, Bliss and the Horbacs bros.

All I know is come playoffs, things shall get very interesting.
Good Teams Would be Nothin without Good Water.....

It would be great if DM and Princeton would play each other before the playoffs. All the other teams play each other. I personally think that these two teams will play each other in the finals. It would be nice to get an idea how they would do against each other. I'm sure that it would be a great game.

DM has the talent to go all the way to the finals, i just hope they do. In the past they have lost to teams they should not of. Like last year in the playoffs. I was at that game last year, everyone was shocked. Even if they do not go to state, i just want them to play their best.

Poll

Post by Thehockeyplaya »

Well I guess if no one else is going to try I might as well take a stab at it.Now there maybe be a little bias in here seeing that I am from Princeton, also I have seen everyone play but Duluth Marshall and Moose Lake.
1. Duluth Marshall-How can they not be ranked #1 they have beat the teams they are suppose to and and few more.Should be the favorite to win but from what I have read and looked up they have had a tuft time in earlier rounds, I see that changing this year though/
2.Princeton-Well they have beat the teams they are suppose to beat but can't quite beat the elite teams in other sections. Played a poor 1st period against Hermantown and play alright the other 2.We shall see how far they go.
Well I am kinda torn between these next three picks i am sure there will be some disliking of these next three if its a seedings poll i would probably say
3-SCC
4-DC
5-Mora
but if it were a power poll i would go
tied for 3-SCC @ Mora
5-Dc
Now i know Mora lost to Scc but they were with out 2 top players and they have become a much better team since that lost.a lot will be riding when Duluth Central goes to St.Cloud in February.I am going section seedings poll so...
3-SCC-They have everything back from last year and they are a really good team that knows how to win when the play-offs roll around however it seems to me they have had a tuft time winning the big game this year however when play-offs roll around every game is big so i think they will be up and ready to go.
4-Mora- Well they have 5 players and a goalie and that is all if you can shut down those 5 you will win but it isn't easy to shut down there starting five this could be one of the best starting 5 in the section
5-DC- I dunno i could be wrong on this but i watched them against Cloquet and they looked good but the last few weeks it seems to me that they have cooled way down. They have there 1st line who can score but this team rides on there goalies back they will go as far as he can carry them. "this is a curiosity question but why does Himmelspach have blue pads when his team color is red??"
6-Duluth Denfield- they are a big threat I mean look what they did to Duluth East they almost beat them however I only saw them play once and it looks to me they are a goal away from winning a ton of games, They don't have the most skill but man they work unbelievably hard and take the body this team will be a big spoiler come play-offs.
7-Suak-Well they play a tuft schedule but they need to start winning they will still be a threat in play-offs with Ryan on there team he can win games by himself but I just think they need to win some more to get a higher seed
8-Sartell-This is s good team they have 2 decent goalies and some good players i think that the one thing that hurts them is there isn't a whole lot of depth.
9-Moose Lake- Have had some nice wins and ties but i don't know much about them cause i haven't seen them play.
10-Pine City- I think they are better than moose but that tie to them hurt them than Moose tied Sartell the one time so i just don't see them as of right now getting a higher seed but Cory, Tony, and Bucky and carry this team through a few rounds i am sure they will make a nice run.
11-Proctor- not very deep a decent team they always seem to make an upset in the first round so we will see if they can make it three years in a row of that. One question on them is what is going on with Tanner Conlon he had 30 some points last year now only what 2 or 3 this year is he hurt or something?

Well there they are I will gladly accept and any criticism so tell me what you think am I close or way off? this is just my thoughts.
