easton hock-
virginia plays a typical northern style of hockey. they are decent sized and have some pretty good players too. they seem to go up and down the ice a lot. they have 2 twin brothers that are good players and they have a jr matt niskanen who is a tremendous player. he is their scoring leader and is fun to watch. very smooth. very solid. if they have a weakness, its goaltending

Re: DM

Post by MKMB »

It was one of the best DM game i have been at. It was the last home game for 9 of the seniors;Paul, Sederberg, Moline, Johnson, Geissler, Castle, Hafferty, Meyer, and Davis. Mark Davis is a senior and it is his first year playing hockey. He is on JV, but he suited up for tonights game. Everyone in the fans started a cheer to put Davis in. He finally went in, it was great. Davis is huge, he is 6'5 and 300 pounds. The best part was that he almost scored. It was a great, but also a sad night for DM hockey.

alex vs SR

Post by Oldblueliner »

Went to the game last night to see Alex win the Central Lakes Title. They have one of the best lines to come out of this area with Bitzan and Clarquist, unbelievable talent. Sr played with them and are getting better. I don't think that it will help them in seeding meetings though. They should not get anything better than a 6th seed in the section. But you never know with Westons tough schedule plee at the meetings though. What were the scores of the games in the section last night? I know SCC didn't play, they were at the SR game.

A little research on Mora!

Post by classAhockey »

So i'm looking at all of these rankings and see Mora at most everyone's number 3 spot. I decided to do a little research on the teams they play. Mora has played probably one of the weaker schedules i have looked at. In 13 games against weaker competition, Mora is 13-0. But the teams they played are also very deceiving. St. Francis, Moose Lake, Roger/zimmerman, Chisolm/Cook, Mankato West, Prairie Centre Area, Proctor, Becker/Big Lake (2), St. Micheal/Albertiville (2) and Ely. These teams have a combined record of 49-143 (could be off by a little but fairly accurate.) Most of these teams wins have came against each other as well.
Mora has only beat (where everyone has them) Proctor and Mora, the two bottom teams of the section by a goal, as well as Sartell by a goal in overtime, and Princeton by a goal late in the season here. Yes, don't get me wrong this team is winning games, and there players are racking up the points, against weak competition, and some against the better competition.
But they have been beat by SCC, and Princeton as well in the section, and thats why i don't really seem them as a 3 or 4 spot really but maybe as the 5 seed. Everyone is entitled to their opinion bout this team, but i have watched them numerous times this year and i don't think they will last long come playoff time.

I'd also like to ask what does everyone think about their leading scores Shaun Corbett? Is he a proven player
Andrew Grabowski??? just let me know. Thanks

Mora boys

Post by Dragons04 »

Personally i feel that Grabowski is a better hockey player. He plays both ways pretty well, where i think Corbett plays when he's got the puck and thats about it. Both seem to be having pretty good seasons. Corbett can shoot the puck alot better than Grabowski but Grabowski is probably a better stickhandler and skater.

Seeds should like somthing in this order

Post by DB33Three »

Well I think DM is #1 and SCC is #2 and Moose Lake is #11 those are for sure and everyone should agree but after that its truly a mess. Princeton should get 3 they spilt with Mora and beat SCC who killed Mora. And Mora doesnt play Sauk and there strength of schedule is very questionable they only played 2 top notch teams they went (1-2). I think Mora will get 4 Sauk will pull off 5 cause sheldon will convince coaches of his tough schedule. then Denfeld will fill in at 6. Now its were its gets messy. Proctor of late is on fire beat both Moose and DC. DC has been cold ever since the "Himmsplach Article". But PC beat Proctor and Moose and Sartell beat PC and Moose so I see Sartell at 7. then I dunno Central still has Mora left and Mora is not playing the greatest of late just getting by STMA 5-3 and Ely 5-4 Not impressive. But Central has not showed signs of life latly either. So I will go Proctor 8 Central 9 and Pine 10 Moose 11. well thats how I see it I think that SCC is on fire and DM is loaded with talent. But never count out the defending champ and those boys from Mora . I dunno who will win it to be honest But I know if we dont I will be cheering for whoever does down at the Xcel. So good look to all it should be fun!!.

So my seeds are
1. DM
2. SCC
3. Princeton
4. Mora
5. SR
6. DD
7. Sartell
8. Proctor
9. Central
10. PC
11. Moose

But like I said 3-10 is a huge toss up but if coaches go by strength of schedule's Princeton 3, Mora 4, SR 5 should be the order and then 7-10 is a mess cause they have all beat eachother. We will find out soon enough on Wednesday.

Strength AND results

Post by 2ahockeydude »

OK, SR has a tough schedule, Sheldon preaches that real strong... BUT how has SR DONE in that tough schedule?? A team that plays tough competition but loses most of the time shouldn't get a top seed.. That's like saying some a kid who takes AP classes but fails should be a better GPA than someone who does well in all their classes.. You gotta perform... not just show up.

DM (no question)
SCC (no question)
Mora
Princeton
SR (This is where they belong, no higher, no lower)
etc.....

Has this been a fast season for you all too? It seems like they just hit the ice..

I'm with DB as well, whoever represents 2A at state gets my support..

<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

the sleeper...

Post by LU4 »

Its not going to matter where each and everyone of these teams is seeded. Overall each team is going to have to bring their A game and take care of business. Everyone is laughing at Sheldons use of "strength of schedule" and I think that even though they have not fared well against this schedule, which is "decently" tough, they are the team that is the most dangerous in this section. The team is filled with a bunch of young kids that just want to win. Led by a great player/leader in Peckscamp, this kids have faced some of the best competition in both A and AA. Therefore wherever Sauk gets seeded its not going to matter, they have the ability to beat anyone, even DM.

LU, i agree completely. They are a tough team. I've seen them play several times and they get better and better eachtime. Henkymeyer and Whipler are true players.

I don't disagree with SR being a possible "sleeper" team. I think that as far a possible teams in the final game, I'd say that it could be DM, SCC, Ptown, and SR. I really don't know that anyone else can get through the early rounds to get to the final four, and then the final two. I'd love to see a replay of last year's final game, SCC and Ptown.. Anything can happen, that's why they drop the puck...

<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

PageStats2 Rankings

I just took a second while on break, and PageStat2 has the rankings through 2/13... Is Sauk Rapids really that strong of a team. I was surprised to see that they only beat Proctor by one goal tonight.

Re: Superior

Post by MKMB »

It looks like DM and Superior will share LSC champs. It is sad that a Wisconson team could win a MN conference. At least DM beat Superior, the only team to do this. I just wish that Marshall would of beaten Hermantown when we played them, we could of done it. Just take away that one goal in overtime.

rankings

Post by 2ahockeydude »

Well, the rankings I put above came from PageStats2, who ranks the teams based on many factors. Are they that strong? Not sure, but they are always a dark horse. I think that below the top three or four teams, it's really a turkey-shoot...

<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">
