Section 2A
the truth
OK, here's the real poop. Nobody associated with DM is overconfident about this game. They are working EXTREMELY hard to acheive the goal put before them at the beginning of the year. It will no doubt be a hard fought contest. I still lean toward DM winning, but who knows?

By the way, the only reason I wrote all the cocky stuff earlier is because it's a hoot watching all you guys get your underwear in a bunch.

The "road game" angle is way overrated. I think it will come down to coaching and matchups. I understand you saying that SCC has been to the big game and this gives them an advantage, but don't forget that the bulk of the DM players come from the Duluth East bantam program. A program that breeds winning.

Oh well, have fun and good luck to all!

Marshall's Road Record
Last I checked DM never played Ifalls. Also, DM fans have been alot of fun to watch this year without being vulgar. SCC hopefully has equal class. Should be a good game. The travel won't affect the team as was said before, most of these players have been in both State PeeWee and Bantam State Tournaments and know what it takes to get the job done. Good luck to East, Hermantown and DM -- all great representatives from hockey country.

2A Semi's
BD33, you need to grow up and face the fact that even though mora played a weak schedule, they won the games they were supposed to handedly. As for princeton loss to chisago was pathetic and handed mora the rrc title. just had to say that, tired of reading DB's senseless comments

Re: 2A Semi's
Guru-Take it easy buddy. DB was just tellen the truth, your schedule, or lack there of made u unprepared for competiton. In the games were u had some sort of compeition, you won 1 game, against Princeton(although u did lose to us also, so its not that impressive) So you wree 1-4 against competition. Not to impressive. Also for handing Mora that RRC, your right. We did hand u the RRC, and your lucky to, cause had we not choked against Chisago, you wouldnt have got it.
Good Teams Would be Nothin without Good Water.....

puck14,
That would be great, and has the chance of happening.

I think that if DM starts scoring or scores first that the score could be not close. If DM gets going on a good start then SCC needs to watch out! If SCC comes out strong then DM will up their game. I think over all, the score will be close, and maybe until the end, but i could see DM coming out and scoring pretty early. But you never know! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

23 more hours!
Lots of travel tomorrow, 5 hours!

2A finals
i doubt this game will be a blowout, this game means a lot to both teams and they will both play their hearts out, neither team is going to go down easy and roll over.

DM is a good team, they play some good competition and can stick with them well. They have a lot of solid players that can contol the puck really well. They also have solid defense. They are a dangerous team when they are on and all playing together

SCC has a weaker schedule but still buries their oppenents (most of the time). If they start out fast its going to be hard to slow them down, but if they start slow it will be a long game for them. Last year they lost to Princeton (6-3...?) earlier in the year and almost beat them in the final taking them into double OT. Although that was last year they still have all their seniors back and they are going to be fighting to win it this year

i think it will a hard fought battle between both teams, they both want it equally as much. DM should not go expecting to win or they will get it handed to them. Its also key for both teams to stay out of the box, that will be extremely important in a game like this.

Im not too sure on my prediction it could go either way but im going to have to go with SCC on this one.

SCC-3
DM-2
dont think there will be an empty netter for either team, they both should be able to keep control of the puck the whole time with an extra skater

good luck to both teams....only a day away

<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... kaway66 at: 3/3/04 10:39 pm

breakaway66,
You made some good points. I am sure DM does not expect to go down to SCC and kill them.

Both teams do play their hearts out, it will be sad for either of the teams that lose.

I agree with you, that staying out of the penalty box is very important. You cannot afford to give the other team an advantage in a close game like this.

2a Finals
Finally, back to talking about tomorrows big match up between #1 seed Duluth Marshall (15-9-1) versus #2 seed Saint Cloud Cathedral (22-4-0). No more trash talking, it all comes down to this, Winner moves on to the state tournament, while the loser has to hang up his gear and hope to have better luck next year. I agree that both teams need to stay out of the box, DM and SCC both have dominating power-plays that have the ability to put the puck away. Like has been previously said, with the Crusaders at their home rink, they have a slight advantage. Both teams are red hot, and i wish best of luck to both.

- I cant decide on this one, have change my mind numerous times because everytime i make a post i contradict it in a later post.

Final Prediction in Section 2A Finals
SCC - 2
DM - 1

I dont think there will be a lot of scoring in this one folks'. Both teams have strong goalies, both of which have been preforming well in the playoffs.

On the road again....
I assume the Duluth team and fans are on the road, or just getting on the road... I wonder who's the most nervous, SCC or DM??

OK, I still call this a close one.... our next round of postings will probably be after the game tonight... This couldn't be any more fun!!

SCC 4
DM 2

Gotta say something, right?? Saturday's going to be another big game in St. Cloud, with the Spuds of Moorhead taking on the Tech Tigers... Update
SCC - 3
DM - 1

Was like all anticipated, the team that is in the box the most will not win the game. With SCC putting hte puck away on 2 out of 3 powerplays, further proves this point. We should state a new forum, as this one will be pointless because the section 2a championship is now over. Good Luck to SCC at state.

Cathedral vs. Marshall
I'd like to congradulate Cathedral on there win first off and wish them luck at the state tourney.
On the other hand i'd have to say in my last 8 years of watching this section and its teams, i'd have to say this was probably one of the worst games i've seen in a long time. It looked to me that Marshall was playing sloppy uninspired hockey and didn't seem to want it as much as Cathedral. You got to give Cathedral credit, when they got the opportunity, they made sure it found the back of the net. I dont see how the Marshall team could go from losing to Blake by one goal early in the season to losing to a very slow Cathedral team, but hey Cathedral goes on to the state tourney to represent. Good luck Boys.
Also thought Schmidt and Crandell from Cathedral reallyu controlled the game back at the point, two very good players.

Celebration
Did anyone else who attended the game tonight also find it hilarious to see #23 (I could be wrong) from Cathedral throw his gloves and stick HIGH in the air and rush to the boards in front of the student section with 6 SECONDS left in the game, WITH THE PUCK IN MARSHALL'S OFFENSIVE END!!! and an extra attacker; realize how much time was left, skated back to his gloves and stick, picked them back up and attempt a defensive play on the puck? I guess the excitement caught up with the boys, and they deserve it... Good Luck against Hibbing!

Re: marshall
Well, finally got back to Duluth. Long drive. It was a good game. I wish DM could of played better tonight, but maybe it was not meant to be. These teams played their hearts out. It was still a great season for DM, it sure was fun. If was sad to see all the DM seniors after the game. They missed state by a year in 2001, and now they can never go. DM will sure miss all of them! You guys are great players, and leaders. Good luck next year

Congratulation to SCC, best of luck at state! Great team to play against. Hopefully we will play you guys again next year at finals!

DM - Class Act..
Duluth Marshall folks, BE PROUD of your players and fans. I saw some pretty classy acts out there. I talked to a coach who said that the show of respect by the players and fans was very impressive...

I suppose this'll close the "Who's gonna win 2A" thread for the season. See you all on here next fall..

<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

Re: marshall
Congrats to SCC. My thoughts on how the game was played last night. First it was good to see that the refs did not determine the outcome of this game. Secondly SCC had a great game plan against the much faster Marshall team, they played the body. Marshall likes to throw the puck in the zone and beet you to it and then use there speed to create scoring opportunities, but SCC did a great job in controlling the body, not letting them come out of the corners with it. Everyone that I talked to last night said that Marshall didn't play there A game, I thought that they played well, but it was that SCC played a better game. Was Marshall out coached in this game? Maybe. Did Marshall over look SCC? Maybe. Know one knows except the players and coaches. Good luck to Cathedral at State. From what I can tell they should at least make it past Hibbing in the first round, but after that who knows. Great season for Marshall, they had a very good year. This has been a great section playoff, the teams that were supposed to meet in the finals were here, you cant ask for anything else.

Re: marshall
DM was very very classy. Sederberg for DM is amazing and is also a true class act. Paul has incredible speed and is just a stud. SCC put in their man hours this week and really got to know DM as a team, I think that is a big reason of why they won.

sportsmanship
Words can not express the pride I felt last night at the end of the game for BOTH teams. DM had no temper tantrums, stick-breaking, or water bottle throwing like I witnessed the night before in the 7A game. (You can figure out the team.) SCC had the expected celebration, but within about 30 seconds they were lining up to shake hands. The game did not turn out the way I wanted, but there is no room for whining today. There were 40+ young men out there who have a big head start on becoming great role models. Last night reminded me how athletics can bring out the best in people's character. Other teams should take a lesson. Great season everyone.

Was I right or Was I right
Just wanted to say that my prediction was right for the SCC vs Dm game, 3-1 and that was what is was. Good luck to the Crusaders at state and I feel sorry for Hibbing right about now.

You will be Wrong!
Writer 'Number1HockeyFan", Hibbing likes its position as underdogs. We are far from being cocky but I don't know if that can be said about you? Go BLUEJACKETS!!!

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... ucksony at: 3/5/04 9:07 pm

bodycheck
I agree with you bodycheck 100% I was glad to see that DM kept their composure and played hard til the end, theyre a great hockey team and i would be proud to say i played for them. It was a great effort out of both teams. Congrats to SCC, they wanted this game all year long and they worked as hard as they could to get there, im glad to see them finally win it. But their trip isnt over yet, i hope they do well at the tourny. Both teams showed good discipline and thats what makes a good team. Their fans also showed some respect as they were clapping when the SCC players were getting their medals. thought there would be more chanting between fans but oh well it was still fun.

<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

Re: bodycheck
Even though we lost, it was a great game. I have not warn so much black and gold since 2001 when we were last at state. It was a lot of fun making the trip down to St. Cloud, and cheering my heart out. I have never lost my voice as quickly as i did last night. There really was not a lot of cheering between the fans, which was nice. We were none stop cheering for the players.

All of the comments that i heard before the game implies that DM did not look over SCC, they knew that they would have to work. I wish i could of seen DM play their A game, it would of been nice for the seniors. It was a sad day at Marshall today. I hope all the DM players know that they had a great season, and are not to down from the lose. You guys played your hearts out, thats all we ask for.

I was proud to be a Marshall fan.

I hope people take SCC serious at state. This past year a lot of people have thought 2A is a big joke, and the only good team that could come out of 2A was Marshall. That is not true, I hope SCC shows everyone what they are made of.

Good Luck SCC! You guys lost last year in the finals, it is your year to shine. Hopefully next year it will be Marshall's turn!

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... mb>MKMB at: 3/6/04 2:32 pm

Marshall is classy
I want to talk about Marshall's players, coaches, and fans. Everyone played, coached, and cheered their hearts out. Nice job you guys represented your city and team well. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D"> It was a pretty good game and congrates to scc. Hope they can make some noise down at state
