An apology is absolutely necessary, but do you think it will happen? And what do you think his "explaination" will be?

Okay, that might be too severe.

After I heard about it this morning and watched it on espn.com I couldn't believe my eyes. Completely classless.

After what happened the other night Bettman better pull it together because it's not looking too good.

I hope Moore is able to fully recover and return to the game.

Re: bertuzzi
Keep in mind, Bertuzzi is the same clown who was Donald Brashear's teammate when Marty McSorley hit Brashear in the head with his stick. After that incident, Bertuzzi called it a disgrace, and said there was no place for that in hockey.

He should be suspended an additional 5 games for being a dumbass hypocrite.
Scheids
(A legend in his girlfriend's mind.)

Marty McSorley
Those of use older than 18 might remember Marty McSorley of the Bruins swinging his stick at the head of a Vancouver Canuck. Smacked him pretty good. Police got involved. Good money for the Lawyers.
McSorley got a YEAR suspension, that ended his career. This was not even close to what happened last night.
Bertuzzi is done. Gets at least a 18 months.
Goodbye Todd baby!

Bertuzzi is a jacka**
He should be thrown into jail and banned from hockey. That is just wrong what he did to moore. You just dont do those kinds of things. Its just wrong, he could have done more damage then just broke the guys neck with what he did.

Bertuzzi
First off Moore didn't break his neck, he suffered one fractured vertabrae. Also Bertuzzi should not be suspended for any more than 10 games seeing as that will already cost him millions and he will lose money on future endorsements. He was sticking up for his teammate (Naslund) who was hit by a knee to knee hit on Febuary 16 by Moore, that gave Naslund a concussion. Bertuzzi feels horrible and has tried to reach Moore at the hospital. Moore is hurt but not as bad as people thinks, tomorrow he will be sent to a hospital in Colorado, all damage that was suffered a fractured vertabrae, a concussion, and cuts on his face. Bertuzzi feels bad and has already ruined a large part of his image, punishment enough as I see it. Also part of this can be blamed on the instigator penalty, on Febuary 16 after Moore's hit took place no one fought Moore, as not to risk getting an instigator fight along with a 5 minute major, I say suspend Bertuzzi 5 games fine him 50,000 dollars and get rid of the instigator penalty. And when i say this I don't mean everybody, but us being from Minnesota and many of us not likeing Bertuzzi, we have a biased opinion, if Gaborik were to have done this to someone many of you would say its unfair to suspend him for a year or more. Also Marty Mcsorely was only suspended for 1 calendar year and that was 100 times worse than this as he used a stick to hit Brashear in the face. This is hockey and things happen get over it, Moore will be back next year, and Colorado will get Bertuzzi back so stop whining.

Re: Bertuzzi
Woah! Get over it? So have you had a broken vertebrae? This isn't a slight concussion, he was OUT! Bertuzzi drops his stick, grabs him from behind with one hand and punches him from a blind side. This in retaliation for a neutral zone hit? What hockey planet are you from? Cooke did fight Moore after the first hit. This goes deeper than just this. If you are old enough to remember, Crawford was on the bench for Lemieux's hit on Draper and who can forget Crawford screaming at Bowman on the bench. Cooke's spear on Johnson was another ugly incident. Some of hockey's unwritten rules are being blown out of the water by Crawford's Canucks. Remember, this is the same coach to NOT use Gretzky in the shoot out.

Re: Bertuzzi
Hillkid88, I agree with you. I love a good brawl on the ice just as much as the next guy but a calculated cheap shot like this needs to be delt with not only within hockey but also the criminal courts. I understand the authorities are considering charges. They couldn't pick a better guy to make an example of! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... lasses.gif ALT="8)">

Re: Bertuzzi
Are you kidding me, 5 Games and 50,000 dollars. He ended a guys season with one of the cheapest shots in NHL history. FIVE GAMES. 5 Games for intentionally injurying someone. Thats BS. He should be out for the season, unless they meet with the avs again this year(playoffs), then allow him to play cause he has a target and then some on his head.
Good Teams Would be Nothin without Good Water.....

Bertuzzi
All you people who don't agree with my 5 game suspension and 50,000 dollar fine are taking this too seriously, especially those saying he should be testfied in court or he should only be allowed to playif the Avs meet the Canucks in the playoffs. How stupid would that look if Bettman were to say well, Todd you are suspended indefinitely for the season, but if you guys play the Avalanche in the playoffs you can play so tehy can try and hur tyou, uhh ok, NO. That is one of the dumbest things that I have ever read on here, and those who say a 1 year suspension is what he needs if not more, then why did McSorely only get a 1 year suspension for hitting Brashear in the face with a stick. And yes I am old enough to remember Lemieux's sucker punch to Draper it was in the Western Confrence Finals in 1996, and what difference does it make if this is the coach that didn't play Gretzky in a shootout, maybe he thought that his other players could have been better than Gretzky in the shootout, not saying I do but he is the coach. Why end Bertuzzi's career because Minnesota fans didn't like the comments he made to us last year in the Playoffs people make mistakes and I agree Bertuzzi made a mistake monday night, but he already will lose money and has seriously hurt his reputation. Maybe it was cowardly he is the one who will lose in the end, and to the person who made the vertebrae comment, my unlce fractured two vertebrae in a car accident a couple years back and he had to have surgery and then 5 monthd of rehabbing it, Moore will be back and Bertuzzi knows he should not have done it. Things like this should not concern the police, he didn't break any rules other than intent to injure and instigator penalty. Theres no rule against punching someone when they aren't looking, and whether you like it or not, wake up because at most they will suspend Bertuzzi for the season, I gurantee it.

There is no rule against punching somebody when they aren't looking, true, but there is a rule against punching.... thats why you see guys go to the box for fighting when they throw punches........
Also If I was any player in the NHL not even an Av's player I would fight Bertuzzi, cleanly every time I was on the ice with him in the next game back for doing that. A cheap shot like that should not be tolerated and a 5 game supsension is tolerating it. The NHL did not take a strong enough stand on this incident. End of Story.

Re: Bertuzzi
Doesnt matter at all, what bertuzzi did had nothing to do with hockey at all, no stick- no gloves, he chased down a much smaller moore, brutally punched him in the face and then continued to smash his face into the ice...granted i play hockey and i realize there is a lot of emotion- but theres a difference between payback and what bertuzzi did-- and obviously bertuzzi is going to apologize and "attempt" to reach moore at the hospitol to help his image...this was one of the most vicious things ive seen in years in any hockey from highschool and juniors to college and the pros...i say suspend him for atleast the rest of this year and maybe next year...

Bertuzzi
% games is not tolerating it sending a message as it hurts his team at the end of the year and they are fighting for a higher playoff spot, and also if Bertuzzi deserves a suspension of a yer why was McSorely's only a year tell me that. Even if you would fight him cleanly and weren't an Avs palyer why, to stick up for Moore its not you rproblem and in the end you r causing more problems and making the chances more likely for things like this to happen again, and wildhockey why does it matter that Moore is smaller Bertuzzi picked Moore for taking out Naslund, not because he was smaller, and I asm certain that Bertuzzi did not mean for this to happen as he knows as well as a lot of people that there are people out there who are horrible critics who think that he should never be allowed to play again and why would such a talented player like Bertuzzi want to end his own career so early, and I am still waiting for a response from one of the people that think he should only play if they play the Avs in the playoff. How does that make sense, that also makes incidents like this more likely so why should Bertuzzi be allowed to play agaisnt the Avs in you want the police involved and him to be suspended for a year. Face it there is no way that they can suspend him for a year if McSorely only got a year whether you like it or not, thats the truth.

Re: Bertuzzi
Why does it matter if hes smaller? ar, ar, are you serious, why do u think matt cooke runs away like a lil girl every time he slashes matt johnson? cause hes smaller and doesnt want to get killed. theres no way bertuzzi didnt realize he was practically twice the size of moore and the effect that the outcome would be...biased- yea a lil bit, but we need to crack down somwhere and make sure this doesnt happen again- apparently the mcsorely case wasnt a strong enough message for bertuzzi...not saying this is directly related, but one of the biggest complaints lemuiex and gretzky haven about the game today is how cheap its gotten...we need to make an example of bertuzzi- a year might be a bit much- ill admit that- but id say the rest of the season and a hefty fine that he wont forget...

Bertuzzi
Your getting a little bit more reasonable but it doesn't matter if hes smaller and Bertuzzi did not know that his vertebrae would be fractured and the instigator penalty is a big reason that hockey is cheaper, because people like cooke can slash Matt Johnson and get away with it becasue if Johnson starts a fight because of it he also gets an instigator penalty but don't get me wrong I don't endorse the Bertuzzi incident but I don't see Bettman suspending Bertuzzi for the rest of the year even, the only positive part of this is Bertuzzi is at least man enough to not use his stick and its good to see that if people are going to pull stunts like this that they will do it the old fashioned way and how would the McSorely thing not be enough of a lesson for Bertuzzi, he knew not to use his stick because that would be worse, so that doesn't make sense.

Idiot
First off let me just add Bertuzzi = Busch League. That guy, despite his skill, is a idiot. The league needs to punish this guy and punish him seriously. Anyone who has played hockey and ever wanted to go after someone knows that, you don't do it that way. That is busch league and as far as i'm concerned that is where they should stick this moron.

Re: Bertuzzi
dandill15 you are so off base. The only thing you are right about is the goofy "let him only play against the Av's". This isn't the "old fashion" way of dealing with things and this is as bad as McSorley's. You don't sucker punch guys from behind and then continue to go after them on the ice. Size is an issue here also. I said it before and I will say it again, some of the "unwritten" rules of hockey have been trashed aside here. The reason I bring up Crawford here is the trend with himself and teams he coaches to go too far. The comment about Gretzky and the shootout was also to PROVE a point about this guy being off his rocker. You say that maybe he didn't think that GRETZKY was the player to use in that situation? Come on, you have to take that one back! Either that or quit drinking so much.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... joshdog at: 3/10/04 7:34 am

Bertuzzi and coach
Coach should be suspended too. If you aren't willing - or - can't control your team, then you are endorsing their actions. And if you really want this stuff to stop - lay on heavy fines. It's time for this stupid Canadien mentality of the cheap physical intimidation game to end. It works its way down through all levels. It's just plain ugly and senseless. If Gretzky were USA born - he would have been anhialated by some goon early in his career.

Re: Bertuzzi and coach
dandill, have you even seen the video of this? Even if you have, watch it again.

Bertuzzi sucker punches Moore from behind, and drives his head into the ice as he rides his back on the way down. If you continue watching, you can clearly see that Bertuzzi is winding up to deliver ANOTHER punch to the back of Moore's head, even though he is clearly already unconcious. At this point, Moore's vertebrae are already broken; imagine what another punch to the back of the head would have done! He could have killed him! Literally. Thank God one of Moore's teammates rushed in and pushed Bertuzzi off before he could finish that punch.

"At least Bertuzzi is man enough not to use his stick..." You've got to be kidding me. Brashear got a concussion. Not even close to the degree of Moore's injuries. $50,000 is all you think he should be fined? That's chump change, my friend. He rakes in millions every year.

"He's suffered enough..." Give me a break.
Scheids
(A legend in his girlfriend's mind.)

bertuzzi
THIS GUY IS SURROUNDED BY LOSERS LIKE COOKE AND RUUTU
WHO LOVE TO START STUFF BUT NEVER FINISH IT. THATS WERE THE GOON COMES IN. THERE IS NO PLACE IN HOCKEY FOR A GUY WHO'S INTENTIONS ARE TO DELIBERATELY INJURE
ANOTHER PLAYER. BAN HIM FROM HOCKEY AND MAKE HIM APOLOGIZE TO COOKES FAMILY AND TO HIM FACE TO FACE.
AND THEN THROW INTO THE MIX A COACH AND A MANAGER
WHO ARE BACKING HIM. WHAT AN ORGANIZATION!!!!!!

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... sketboy at: 3/10/04 9:06 am

Re: Bertuzzi
I saw the video. It is disturbing to say the least. Where does that come from? These guys are all trying to do the same thing...play hockey for a living. Sure play hard and rough it up a little when necessary but not this.

I agree with scheids.

As far as I am concerned he could be out of hockey and it wouldnt bother me. I wouldnt let him on the ice again until I was pretty confident this wouldnt happen again.

I dont know how you go about doing that but something is real wrong with this guy.

Dandill you have got to realize that this was a severe intentional situation on bertuzzi's part. Intent to injure type behavior should not be tolerated and to say that it was retaliation for naslund's concussion is inexcusable. Why dont you call up Moore in the hospital and tell him that, "bertuzzi should only be suspended 5 games with a 50,000 dollar fine because you gave Naslund a concussion". Better yet, tell him that its the instigator rule's fault for why he is in the hospital with a broken vertebrea in his neck, a concussion, and facial lacerations. Stop playing this down like it is part of the game cause its not. In reality it is a "game within a game" mentality among these NHL goons. There is no place for a 2nd game to take place within the actual game that should be taking place on the ice.
On the streets that kind of behavior results in criminal assault charges. Bertuzzi tried to use the game of hockey to shadow his criminal assault charges in which he should be found guilty and punished to the fullest extend of the law. That is what he deserves, period.

Mcsorley--23 Games
I believe that McSorley suspension was reduced from the calender year to 23 games. Unless Sportscenter is feeding me bum information.

This act was brutal and very premediated. He should be done for at least 25 games in comparison to some of the other incidences. They currently have 13 games left and playoffs which would mean he can sit part of next season also.

Good old school hockey is great and fighting and enforcement is part of the game but cheap, uncalled for, and blatant intent to injure is another.

Bertuzzi is a clown thats for sure. However, being this game occured in British Colombia means he is in for it. They don't tolerate it up there and the authorities will prosicute him.

Re: Mcsorley--23 Games
this was almost as bad as watching dave forbes try to take poke out henry boucha's eye. this type of act in any sport or is totally uncalled for. for an action as this a player should be suspended for life, no questions asked. but the nhl is such a bush league they will give him a little slap on the hand and a pass to do some more gutless assaults... bush league, bush player run by a bush organization...
