Mr. Hockey Award: The Last Bastion of Decency

Post by DoRight101 »

I just want to say that the voting for Mr. Hockey is about the only non-political decision left in the sport of hockey from youth through high school.

The winners over the past few years have proven to me that the voting is not rigged and can't be bought. It doesn't matter which teams you've made or haven't made in the past, it doesn't matter how much money your family has, it doesn't matter which association you come from, which board your dad served on, which new arena your family funded, or who you know. (These are not aimed at any one in particular...we can all fill in our own names here!)

You may not agree with the decision, but at least you know it was an objective decision. Any thoughts on this? I will hang up and listen.

The only time I had a problem with it was when Matt Cullen lost the award to Rasmussen back in 1995. Both proved worthy ... but I thought Cullen should have gotten it that year.

<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat"> "And the best and the worst of this is
That neither is most to blame,
If you've forgotten my kisses
And I've forgotten your name." --- Swinburne, An Interlude

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... eoscout at: 3/16/04 12:41 pm

Mr. Hockey Biases

Post by cliff77 »
Never in its 20 year history has there been a winner from a private school. I think that shows some bias.

Only 3 of the past 20 winners have been defenseman. You can't tell me the best senior player in the state has been a defenseman only 3 out of 20 times. This shows bias toward those with the most points almost always win the award, which certainly happened this year. In fact it would be interesting to see how many times the top point getter in the state won the award.

Given who votes for the award, quite often the winner is someone who is more a prototypical NHL player. This would account for Dey and Rasmussen being chosen.

Bias?

Post by DoRight101 »

Bias or no, I can't think of a private school player who has been more deserving than the ultimate winners.

Craig Johnson (Hill Murray) should have won over Joe Dziedzic (Minneapolis Edison) hands down.
