Student Sections...You should be ashamed of yourselves
wow i was almost embarrassed to see the pathetic student sections for all the AA games.

lets start with Cent- great turn out, no cheering. i mean come on, you have the best team in the state, it is your first ever trip to the state tournament, make some noise. if i went to Cent i would not be able to talk after the first period of the first game.

Next is AHA- decent turnout but very little cheering. the eitire quarterfinal game i heard one shere the "holy angels clap, clap, clap clap, clap. one fricken cheer for 2 hours of hockey....weak!

Wayzata- they were the best of all the AA student sections. they were the rowdiest at the beginning of the cent game, but then seriously died down as their team got worked.

tartan- what do you expect from a team that got killed both if it's games and didn't even desirve to be at state. pretty lame.

Moorhead- good size and i liked the orange, but no rowdy enough. there was no heckeling, crazt jumping up and down, chants, etc...

Elk River- not a great turnout, but decent noise for the size. one problem i had with ER was you could barley tell where the student section was, no one was dressed up, or wearing Er stuff!!

East- had a good band and were fairly rowdy. could have more kids there though.

lakeville-well i am just sick of this so whatever.

one last thing...STAND UP.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... wker>Mitch Hawker at: 3/20/04 5:36 pm

It all comes down to pride school pride. Most kids in those schools probably are just there to party or get out of school...........go to the a games if you want to see something, not a big turnout, but the kids do get excited and cheer.................

Here's some class A fan input

Breck- students were on their feet each game for every second of it.

SSP-sitting down the whole game.

Albert Lea- I don't even remember them, must not have made an impression on me

Orono- best opposing fans we faced. On their feet some and had a few cheers.

I wasn't present for the other teams so others can fill in on those.

Breck- 2003-2004 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONS

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... reckfan at: 3/13/04 6:16 pm

Re: Student Sections...You should be ashamed of yourselves
I agree with BreckFan, Orono had a great cheering section. I think that Hibbing also had a very good turnout and were very good. Definitely surprised me.

Elk River was pretty weak, Moorhead didn't impress either. East and Lakeville were medicore at best. The Wayzata fans were very sweet. Centennial was not bad, they definitely had numbers on everyone.

Elk River AA State Champions- 2001 Boys & 2004 Girls

Hockey isn't basketball. People should sit during the game. Its curtousey to the people behind you. SSP people are taught this from an early age, too bad other teams fans weren't. You sit while the puck is in play, its that simple. Standing during great offensive/defensive plays is permissible, but that is all. You don't move from your seat while the puck is in play, respect those around you, and those higher up and sections over whose view you would be blocking. I know it must be something taught to the Saint Paul suburbs schools, because the 2AA fans are all taught to think of the other fans. Its just rude to stand all game!
Puckster

www.wildpuck.com

puckster,
I am glad you said something because I was thinking it. I was at the SSP Hibbing game today and I was shocked to see the kids from Hibbing not cheering for the game but turning to the SSP fans yelling nasty comments, even after a hibbing goal. I have been to a lot of rinks and seen a lot of fans, I was glad to be SITTING in the SSP section.

Call me crazy, but....
Funny, I go to hockey games to watch the game. I could care less who has the "rowdiest" crowd.

your quote was: "one last thing...STAND UP. your team is playing in the fricken state tournament and you are sitting down to watch the game!!!! what a joke. every single kid who was sitting in a student section should be on their feet every second of the game!!!! what a sad performance by the kids."

What ever happened to common sense and etiquette? Those would dictate that it just might be alright to SIT in the SEATS during the games. That's why chairs were invented weren't they?

chants
I thought moorhead's fans were pretty good considering they didnt have very many students there. But one chant I hated most in the tourney was the "Iceing" chant by Breck, everyone in the rink knows its iceing, whats the point. I though Orono had a good come back, while they were winning anyways, and it went a little something like this "scoreboard, scoreboard". Also I beleive Orono deserved that trophy more than Breck, they hustled more, and played with more heart, if the refs werent chickin @#%$ to call something, the game would have probly been a completely different story.

warroadsalt
warroadsalt,
So you think the refs were the cause of the five goal differential? Just give it up man. Your team lost to Orono and Breck beat them. It's as simple as that. Don't blame the refs, just admit that Breck was the better team.

Re: warroadsalt
Well.. if one wants to get technical... Orono had just pulled to 3-2 in the game and had an odd man rush. One of the Orono players was tackled to the ice when the puck was no where near him, a breck player picked up the puck and threw it out to wheeler who went in all alone and made the game 4-2. That was the turning point in that game, it took away from Orono's momentum. Had the proper call been made it could have been a little different of a game. Regardless... that kind of thing happens. It was still a great game.

cheering sections
The Xcel is a horrible place to have student sectioins at high school hockey games. Because the Wild season ticket holders get first crack at tickets, They are interspersed throughout the so-called student sections. I saw one group of guys on friday yell for 15 minutes at some girls for standing. The girls sat down right away, but the old guys thought that they were 'disrespectful'. Apparently standing, cheering, or doing anything besides sitting stonefaced in the student section is not allowed.

the penalty
Breck won the state title and they deserved it. However, I agree with NUeagles on the fact that the game would have been MUCH closer if the ref would have called Breck on its cheap play, especially the play he mentioned. Orono had scored, had the momentum, and was in the middle of a great shift with some great chances, then a player gets hauled down (CLEARLY a penalty), and the ref does not call it. That in my opinion took everything out of Orono. However, Breck won by 5 goals and I'm not trying to take anything away from them. They played great all year, losing only once is incredible.

Re: the fans
I've never heard of Wild ticket holders getting "first crack at the tickets". I highly doubt it. The MSHSL has a waiting list to get "season tickets" which are good for all tournament games, so I doubt Wild season ticket people would get to superceed the list.

The older folks who have had tournament season tickets over the years are right. The student section is behind and next to the band. They are behind the goals for a reason, and that way they don't block people's views as much.

The seats are there for a reason, and people donating about $200 for a pair of seats every year deserve to have a good view of the arena. They should have a right to an unobstructed view just as much as the students. Hockey isn't basketball, the seats are for sitting.
Puckster

www.wildpuck.com

Re: Cheering
206.... What a joke. Those drunken idiots thought they were cool for harrassing girls coming and going, and then embaressing them in front of prob. over 100 people when they refused to sit by them. Also it was a nice touch during the Moorhead v. ER game when two drunks from 206 got in a fight with eachother over nothing. If you ask me, they were a disgrace to hockey. Watch the game, not harrass chicks.
Good Teams Would be Nothin without Good Water.....

k...?
hey buddy for 1 no one in section 206 was drunk people are there to have a great time and there was no harrasing of chicks if we were harrasing them then why did they come sit buy us and give us their numbers? yeah ok and haha that fight i guess was because some crazy kid from monticello was salty just cause we were making fun of them oh well the concession guys loved us the securtiy gaurds loved us ... and even some elders loved us ... its a sporting event to have fun .. get off their backs and keep assuming we were drunk but were not stupid were just having fun ! section 206 was a blast for 4 straight years now and its never gonna end ... we'll be back if you like it or not <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

aha section
We were standing up the whole time during the first period but were told very rudely by one of our teachers to either sit down or leave. I was in shock.

saintcloud cathedral
the funniest thing happened when hibbing and scc played. scc thought they scored a goal that actualy hit off the pipe and came bacck out through hibbings goalie tony trenberths legs. the reff said no goal but the goal judge turned on the light so the refs went on the rink phone to figure it out. while the refs were doing this th scc fans started to chant ( jesus help us clap clap clap clap clap) i thought it was funny bcause then the ref stayed with his call no goal. i started to laugh hahahaha(sigh) CAKE EATERS!!!!!

Re: fans
Once again we talk about seating at the excel. They need to learn how to make set School sections. They intersperse people from a school who care with people from other places who get very mad that people want to cheer, stand, stomp, etc. Its really too bad. The high school league could stop so many headaches at the game if they just said sections 132, 133. 134 or whatever are sold to Moorhead people, set a designated spot as student area, and tell the people that if you dont want to be around rowdy, standing, loud people, you shouldnt sit in that section. They did real well getting the centennial fans out of the moorhead student section last night(why on earth they wanted to sit there I dont know, and if they had tickets there, that would be unreal bad planning on the high school leagues part). They get those special ticketmaster tix, just get some with the logo of the team and not the logo of the high school league in those certian sections. Then people would know what they were getting themselves into. Or even just print the name of the team on the ticket.

There are tons of sections that arent designated for a school, but the league insists on interspersing people affiliated and not.

Its time to figure out the situation, since the tournament is gonna be there for another 15 years at least.

on the standing thing
my bad if you guys were not allowed to sit down, but the statments that you are supposed to sit i don't really agree with. every regular season and section game i went to this season where there were big crowds all the students were standing. this isn't golf, i think you are allowed to get into it, yelling cheering and standing. i'm sorry to all those 50 year old guys on here who don't like the kids standing up. ohh and much better student sections in the AA finals.

Re: HIBBING/St. Cloud Cathedral
The Hibbing/St. Cloud Cathedral game was a state tournament classic for both the fans and other spectators. The Hibbing Band was GREAT and their fans really got into the game. You could hear chants and/or see signs like "cakeeaters", "Public Schools" "Over-rated", "We don't belong?", "Walters Dual", "Where is St Cloud?", "Boo Jim Rich", etc. I was sitting near the Hibbing section and the noise level was so loud that I had a real difficult time hearing the announcer. Hibbing and its community were 100% supporting of this team and especially since selected others wrote them off. I believe that Jim Rich's comment on TV (Wednesday afternoon) really inspired Hibbing to prove to him and everyone else in the state that this team belonged/deserved to be there. The 'proof is in the pudding' so to speak with another trophy (3rd place 2004, 5th place 2003). All in all, the fans, bands, players, etc were spectacular!! A record attendance/draw and GREAT MN HOCKEY!!! If you did not attend this year, you really missed out big time!

first off Jim Rich is a bum, and deserves to get fired from his job for making a gay comment like that, anyhoo the funniest sign i saw was at the orono/hibbing game... "We may have drew and shea, but orono's still gay!".. and "orono??, more like porno"... and defender is tha man, yes defender, cake eaters is right
