Program depth.......a very interesting statistic
There were 27 varsity level skaters (grades10-12) that have skated in the Edina program that are playing in a non-Edina MN high school varsity level program (including junior, ntdp or shattuck) this year.

In addition the Edina Jr Gold A team is in the State finals and the JV team ended up second in the Classic Lake(1 game behind Wayzata)

The Bantam A's are playing in the State consolation finals and the Peewee A's are in the State Championship finals. The Bantam B-1s are in the Conoslation finals.

There is no other program in the state that can exhibit that depth in 2003-2004.

Edina
Hockeytape:

You say that there are 27 Edina players playing other places then Edina Varsity!

After watching the style that is taught at the varsity level I am not surprised to see so many leave. The Pee Wees and Bantams play a very skilled style of hockey and are obviously successful doing so ( both are in the state tournament ) but when they get to varsity they are taught to play cheap, I know several parents that are embarrased by the style of hockey they played this season and their results showed it. I also know of several youth players that are planning on leaving when they get to high school because of it.The display in the playoffs was the most embarrasing of all, I do not think you will slow down the number of kids leaving until you see a change at the varsity level.

big deal
Is that supposed to be a shocking statistic? Edina is a very affluent community. A lot of people can afford Blake, Breck, St Thomas Acedemy and I believe Catholic families go to BSM or AHA

Sibley(West St Paul/ Mendota heights/ Sunfish Lake) probably had similar numbers playing at CDH, STA, SPA, HM and AHA.

Edina or Moorhead
Yes I agree Edina is deep but they are not the deepest or even the most talented team from top to bottom.Moorhead is doing better in the youth leagues, has the been varsity coaching and seems to be the only program right now that will be able to get better and better. Most of this years varsity team comes back and then add in a few of the kids comeing off of this years Bantam A team and you got a very deadly team next year, even better then the Centenial team.

Depth
I would agree that Moorhead has great depth from 3rd line Varsity all the way down to Pee Wee's and beyond. Also I agree with what somebody said about people in Edina having the money to send their kids to schools other than Edina public schools. But it's not just about money. The school that those 27 kids are attending are also close to their homes. It would be unrealistic for somebody from Moorhead, or Duluth East to travel to the cities just to go to school and play hockey for a private power house. So I am not surprised that 27 players left Edina. It has nothing to do with depth.

StateofHKY
What are you talking about. It has everything to do with depth. They lose 27 potential varsity players and are still in the top of the state. What part are you missing here. Take away 27 potential varsity players from Duluth East or Moorhead and they would be terrible.

Edina's surplus
hockeytape,
If it's any consolation, I got your point. Pretty amazing stat. I am sure no one else comes close, but I wonder how many Minnetonka gives up on average.

Players
Could anyone name all 27 players and where they are now and when they left just so we could know that info? or did most of these players leave in squirts?

Players
I am guessing that most of these kids never attended Edina schools, and those that did were preplanned to be headed for privates by middle school or 9th.

I think he was just pointing out the richness of hockey to this small geographical community. Obviously a lot of hockey interest and history in this town.

edina
I think Edina may have to look at other things than depth of players. Sportsmanship is what they lack. Newspapers at the visitors starting line-up and players arguing every call by the refs seem to be the norm. I watched the Bantam A state tourney and heard that they just demolished the locker room after losing in consolation. Sounds like another no class team coming out of Edina.

Class
Edina was all about class when Ikola was at the helm!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">
