Congratulations Erik Aus

Post by jr »

Congratulations Erik on being named AA coach of the year by your peers. Those that have coached realize the immense pressure put on all coaches and many times it doesn't seem fair.

Erik you started at Centennial in 1987 and you have helped build quite a program. I know you would be the first to say thousands of people are responsible but you are a part of that. This program was built from the ground up and you are tremendously active in the youth program.

You have had two state tournament quality teams. Last year the boys played their hearts out only to be stonewalled by an awesome goaltender. This year you started the year #1 and ended it the same way. Along the way the boys were 6-0 vs. teams ranked 2-4.

During the year the team was questioned for supposedly running up the score. What a joke!! I challenge anyone to find a team in the past 20 years that had to play the whole month of January against teams that the outcome was already decided. No Holy Angels does not fill that bill. In fact I looked and during every January in recent memory they had losses, close games including ties. You and I know that you received a letter from Monticello thanking your team for showing class by not running up the score. Being ahead 10-0 after seven minutes and winning 18-0 is NOT running up the score. The Monticello letter wished you the best and also said they were pulling for you at STATE.

Being able to keep the team focused during that month before the playoff stretch is amazing. You have always been a defensive minded coach and it paid off BIG TIME in the tourney. As RJ said, "The coaches know best!" Not the supposed experts on the outside looking in!

Erik you have stated over and over again to me and others that this team was special and easy to coach. You are the type of person that has always put the kids first.

Congratulations to all the players and coaches on a memorable season! In my humble opinion this team will go down as one of the best. That is up for debate which is fine!

Centennial has arrived on the high school scene!!

Wonderful Season

Post by centerman »

That was a wonderful season by the coaching staff. For the players to only give up 33 goals in 31 games is simply outstanding!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

This team learned to win even when they weren't at full strength. Great leadership all the way through.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Erik:

You showed what being coach of the year is all about. It is building your team from the ground up by developing a feeder program and turning the end result into a championship. Coach of the year is more then just making 20 phone calls to other programs kids and making a team out of that!

Weak Schedule?

Post by centerman »

Blackhawk I will agree that Centennial played a handful of conference games that were ugly but they also played more top ten teams than anyone else. Let's take a look:

Wayzata twice

AHA twice

Moorhead twice

Hill Murray twice

Totino Grace twice

Roseville twice

WBL

Edina

Elk River

Mounds View

Duluth East

They also played teams like Rochester Mayo, Armstrong and Coon Rapids. To only give up 31 goals playing this competition is amazing!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Missing the point!

blackhawk: You're missing the point.

Look at it this way.

Wayzata twice

Moorhead twice

AHA twice

Hill Murray twice

Totino Grace twice

Roseville twice

Elk River

WBL

Edina

Mounds View

That is 16 games right there and they only gave up 33 in 31 games. Don't try and pull out a couple of games and make it look poor. They were 8-0 vs. the top 5 and gave up a grand total of 10 goals in those 8 games!!!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Duluth East

Post by centerman »

I also forgot Duluth East which would make 17 games vs. solid competition. To only give up 33 goals is incredible!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">
