No room for a WCHA team in that last grouping? 4 of the 5 crammed into the upper bracket? Huh.

UMD vs UM

Post by benc14 »

gophers may have to play the bulldogs for the 6th time this year, and then if they win that they might play the souix-idge for the 6th time this year. bot these pairings are screwy.

Actually these pairings are pretty close to fair. If you had to rank the teams 1-16, the matchups make sense this year. The object of the bracket isn't to make sure there's matchups between conference teams (UM vs. UND for example) so we have the usual East vs. West final, but to give try to have the the matchups played out fairly based on ranking. Yes, location has some to do with the placements, but I thought the brackets were overall very well done.

The Gophers have the toughest road of any of the #1 seeds, and rightfully so. They are ranked #4, so they should have the toughest bracket. That's the way it's supposed to be.
Scheids
(A legend in his girlfriend's mind.)

Maines win the first game of the season was a combination of many things. First off Minnesota just lost their goaltender and was coping from that loss. They played justin johnson who has now become the backup to a superb freshman goaltender Kellen Briggs. Secondly not everyone was playing together they didnt look to good. Minnesota has since become a great team and Maine will not get in the way of Minnesotas run at 3 straight.

Its a long ways off, but if these two teams do make it to the Final, it should be a barn-burner. Being completely biased, I'd give the advantage right now to the Gophers. Look at their strength of schedule compared to Maine's. Its not even comparable. MN is peaking right now. Yes, Maine won their conference tournament also, but it took them 3 OT's to put away Mass?

MN peaking right during tournament time...sound familiar?
Scheids
(A legend in his girlfriend's mind.)

Gophers will win

Post by packerboy »

At the beginning of the year, I thought that the Gophs were still celebrating 2 in a row and would come around after the holidays. When they didnt, I wrote them off.

Sure, there were injuries but that series up at the DECC was.....well, they looked disinterested.

Now, I have to agree with scheids. They are the best team and they are motivated to 3peat. Only a series of bad breaks( or bad goaltending) will stop them.

As fun as it is to state who you would like to see win, its kinda pointless to have this on a MINNESOTA highschool hockey forum. A large number of you guys are yet to see any teams from out east or anywhere other than the wcha play. Im not sayin someone from the wcha wont win and doesnt have a good chance- i think the gophers and duluth have a very good chance along with the others from the league, however i think its kinda pointless to have the discussion here--check out the message boards on uscho.com...

BC in '04

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... ockey55 at: 3/23/04 4:46 pm

I agree its a MN high school hockey forum, but the seasons over and we should be able to talk about the NCAA hockey tournament. If you need a reason for this then just think many seniors this year are going to play for these teams. I think the reason you don't want to talk about it is because you know BC has no chance and the gophers are going to walk all over their opponents on their way to their third straight championship.

gophers will win

Post by Jazzkat »

the gophers will win. how can anyone sensibly say otherwise?? this is minnesota! state of hockey! greatest state ever! no way some team from out east can beat the best we have to offer. gophs werent "expected" to win either of the past 2 years, now time once again for them to prove critics wrong. minnesota will be 3 time champs, then next year with rj from centennial and others, they will be unstoppable!

Gophers

Post by brickwall33 »

First off jazzkat, rj anderson is a junior and will not be playing for the gophers next year. When i think about it, I like the Gophers chances to get back to the Frozen four, but once you win one championship the next one is always harder and this is year three. I am not saying that the gopher's can't three-peat, but they are the one's with the pressure on their backs, everyone is out to beat them. If they do three peat I am going to say it was because of their high scoring offense. The last two games they have scored 12 goals on two top ten teams. If there is an achilles heal of the gopher's it is their goaltending. Hauser and Weber both stepped it up during the national tourney, but will Briggs? Of these three goalies Briggs is the least experienced and has a save percentage aroung .890 while UMD's Issac Reichmuth and Wisconsin's Bernad Bruckler are around .930. For the gophers to win Briggs will have to play consistantly well, because if the gophers run into a hot goalie, he is going to have to come up big for the gopher's to three peat.

Alright, jesrober u dont even deserve a response after that statement, BC has no chance hahaha- please #1 team in the nation all year...cmon, cmon and im afriad to talk about BC? haha please, its just not worth it on this message board, i talk on a board of a bigger scale on uscho.com---and for jazzkat- your talkin liek the gophers were alaska anchorage when u say they werent picked to win the last two years. Maybe they werent picked to win but its not like their name wasnt mentioned when talkin about the frozen four...

BC in '04

Post by Gilley »

gophers aren' tgonna have a 3 peat there is no way. Ya they have stellar offense and a great defense lead by keith ballard but kellen brings honestly come on....i was at the final five and he didn't impress me one bit. now Chris King from Alaska he was something else, he faced 85-90 shots in 2 games and let 5 in. He had great saves, break aways one timers everything. If he was on the gophers or any wcha team they would be the team to beat. I have a feeling either Michigan or UND is gonna win, Montoya from Michigan is a outstanding goaltender. Wolverines are big and strong team as always. Go michigan
