I'm a Gopher Fan. Great game Bulldogs, you will represent the Great State of Minnesota well at the Frozen Four. Can anyone tell me why someone from Mn. can be a fan of the Canadian team from North Dakota. Thats like pulling for Russia in 1980.

Gophers/Bulldogs

Post by hawksrock0304 »

Great game. I am one crushed Gopher fan, but I give all the props in the world to the Dogs. Wonderful job by sir Isac in the pipes for UMD. Is it just me, or did Minnesota seem rather slow today? Well, I shall be rooting for the Dogs in the Frozen Four. They've got an outstanding team. Go Bulldogs!!!!

Canada EHH?

Post by ptown tigers »

North Dakota has 5 players from canada. While they have 11 from Minnesota. Add another 4 from Grand Forks(which is basically Minnesota). Thats fairly far from the next team canada.

UND

Post by hockEfan »

Hey bisketboy,

Why wouldn't anyone from northwestern Minnesota and North Dakota cheer for the Sioux? Grand Forks is a 2 -3 hour drive max for all section 8 schools, if not less. It's easy to jump on the Gopher bandwagon when MINNESOTA is doing well. Answer this, how many kids does MINNESOTA really get from northwestern Minnesota? This year UND has kids from Roseau, EGF, Warroad and the Grand Forks area on the team. It's called regionality, that's why people pull for the Sioux. It's the same reason why northeastern Minnesota pulls for the Bulldogs. Look at UM, UND and UMD. Northern Minnesota kids represent UND and UMD more so than the Gophers. GO BULLDOGS!!!

How many kids does UND have from overseas? anyone? thats why people cheer for UND, not the only reason but as HockEfan said-look at all teh area schools represented by this team. Not to mention all the minnesota kids who go to school there.

Only 1 goal for the Gophers? What was the game like? Tight checking or great goaltending?<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

1 Goal?

Vaneck had to play the game with 2 players water skiing behind him the entire game. Not to say that UMD didn't spread the hooking and holding around evenly to all the gophers.

So, what about next year?

"How many kids does UND have from overseas?"

Spirko is coming next year from Overseas, so, that kind of blows that theory up.

U of M v. UND

Post by cae2005 »

I have always been a Gopher fan no matter how good or bad they have played and I live in Moorhead. Yeah, UND is closer but maybe it's because I grew up watching U of M hockey or maybe just that living in Moorhead, I have developed a strong dislike for parts of North Dakota, including Grand Forks. So eventhough the Gophers lost to UMD (go UMD in the Frozen Four tourney) and are not going to 3-peat, UND will also not win the National Title making the situation ok. Gophers still showed they bring it when it counts - beating UND for the Final Five WCHA championship.

dogs...

Post by hubbaa »

congrats to the dogs. they beat the gophs 5 out of 6 so i have to say they deserve it. gophs just couldn't beat sir isaac in nets, he was the difference. best of luck to the dogs with denver and on to trounce over the hated boys from out east when the dogs dismantle the bc boys...

the gophers might be better off putting troy riddle or thomas vanek in the net instead of briggs. sure hope he develops his skills through the rest of his gopher career

but the bulldogs are really good this year

briggs...

Post by hubbaa »

benc14,

i don't think briggs was the reason they lost, sure he wasn't the best goalie but he will get better. when you're team only scores one goal you then have to shut out your opponent to win. a couple more goals from the gophs and they would still be playing. as far as i know it isn't briggs' job to score.
