Stanley Cup Playoffs

Post by scheids316 »

Figured I'd start this since I just watched the most entertaining game of the NHL season so far, between the Bruins and the Habs. Bruins took it in double OT, to take a 3-1 series lead.

What does everyone think so far? Can the Bruins finally make some serious playoff noise? Who will upset? Can the mighty Wings be stopped? They were shutout by the Predators tonight; series tied at 2 games apiece.

My take:

If Kariya comes back, Colorado could make the most noise. The goaltending of a playoff-untested Aebischer is also key.

The Lightning also intrigue me. Never made any serious noise in the playoffs, but they definitely have their best team ever.

My prediction:

The Wings overcome their early struggles and defeat the Bruins in a great 6 game series for the Cup.

The Stanley Cup: The hardest trophy to win in all professional sports. Here's to a great playoff season!
Scheids
(A legend in his girlfriend's mind.)

Western Confrence Finals

Colorado over Nashville
-I think nashville will play the role of anaheim of last year on the reliance of Thomas Vokoun, who has earned his way to be one of the top goalies in the NHL, but due to fatigue like the wild of last year wont be able to beat a loaded coloardo team.

Eastern Confrence Finals

Boston over Tampa Bay
With steady play from Raycroft and reliable defense the Bruins will beat Tampa in 6

Finals

Colorado over Boston
Very similar teams, Raycroft and Abeischer are great and no better than eachother. Both offense's are potent with talent but the edge to colorado and their expeirence. But the main factor i think will be Coloardos defense if they play of their capability its over.

Hey ClassicElite,
Detroit would be playing Calgary in the 2nd round because the high seed always plays the lowest seed.

Regardless, Detroit beats Ottawa for the Cup. Yzerman retires. Legace is the god of Hockeytown.

Elk River AA State Champions- 2001 Boys & 2004 Girls

They might win but Legace wont be the god. Joseph is coming back early to start next game after finishing the last one for legace. Playoffs have been great so far and I think they will only get better as we go. Fun time of year for hockey fans.

Come on, Colorado is going all the way. With Forsberg, Sakic, Hejduk, Tanguay, Selaene, Blake, Foote, and now Abby. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat"> Need I say more.

Colorado beats the Flyers 4 games to 2 for Lords Stanly Cup

what does everybody think about kovalev faking that injury to get a call and then running into souray, giving up the game winner in ot. I agree with Grunt though, Colorado is just so deep.

Good topic scheids. I will throw in my 2 cents when the next round starts. I am sure you are aware of the fact that slapshooter's predictions on the playoffs are nothing but flawless, especially when adjustments are made to accommodate changing circumstances.

I have one question for slappy. I dont know about anyone else..but I sure am sick of hearing about Detroit being "Hockeytown"...ok whether detroit bought or produced a few high caliber teams is debatable, but they won a few cups. Only the high violence rate of the city relates to hockey. they have more basketball players runnin around than hockey players...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

That was probably the dumbest thing i have seen a player do this year (besides Tod Burtuzzi) You just dont do that in overtime in the playoffs. Kovelev should of known he is not gonna get a call like that in overtime especially if it was that weak. If I was the coach I would fine him because u really cant afford to sit him. But just an embarrassment to the game. I tell u who should be really mad should be The goalie for Montreal.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/mad.gif ALT=">:">

I also agree with Dons i would love to see Detroit get knocked off back to back seasons by the number 8 seed. The Ducks did it last year hopefully Nashville can do it this year.

But Colorado all the way<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... smokin.gif ALT=":smokin">

Playoffs

I'm a die-hard Maple Leafs fan so I'm cheering for them to go all the way. I think they can close out Ottawa on Sunday. I would love to see the Preds knock off the Wings, but that will be very tough. I think the Preds will win tomorrow at home because it seems like Detroit gets somewhat rattled playing there. However, I think it will be very hard for the Preds, if they win game 6 tomoarrow, to beat the Wings at the Joe. My dream cup final would be Leafs and Predators. Think about that series: that would be very fast, intense, and very physical. Those are the two most exciting teams in the NHL in my opinion. I don't see that cup final happening, though. I'm going to say Philadelphia and Calgary in the finals, with Calgary being this year's Ducks. I really believe the Flames can get to the finals. I don't think they can handle the Flyers though. Philly wins the cup.

Well...

Since my prediction that the Bruins would make the finals sure worked out so well...

I reserve the right to change my mind! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"> I didn't count on Thornton taking the series off.

I also picked the Wings to make the finals...I'm changing that too. Calgary will take them out in a thriller game 7. The Flames win it in OT.

New Finals prediction:

Philly wins the Cup in 6 games over the Sharks.

Anyone else have anything to offer?
Scheids
(A legend in his girlfriend's mind.)

4Checker

The Sharks over the Kings is a very bold prediction...considering the Kings aren't even in the playoffs. I'll assume you meant the Avs.

As much as I'd love to see the 'Ning win it all, they don't have the complete package, like the Flyers do. If they have their healthy, intact team, noone can beat them.

Scheids
(A legend in his girlfriend's mind.)

Kings?
Where'd that come from?
Must have been having some Gretzky/Melrose flashbacks. You assumed correctly, Avs.
Your 'Ning comments are probably true, I'm just thinking they are "that team" that overcomes their shortcomings each year and gets it done.
I'd actually like to see Philly take it all, but something always seems to get in their way. Maybe Roenicks time off was a blessing for him at his age. Hitchcock seems to get one great year out of his teams before they turn on him, maybe this is the one. They need to keep their series from here on out short, lots of vets they need to keep fresh.

NHL playoffs

The over-rated Avs take another step towards an early exit. Gotta love the playoffs - hard working teams can overcome the talented teams when they buy into it.
Calgary looks so similar to last year's Wild, the Red Wings will have their hands full to get past them.
Leopold's really putting in some quality D work for being so young. He's got a great future. How about a superstar like Iginla dropping them against Hatcher and doing his own dirty work at the end of their last game?
Gonna be a fun couple weeks coming up as usual.

Well, I correctly predicted an OT series winner for Calgary. It just happened in 6 games, not 7 like I thought it would. I'll take it, either way.

Can't wait for the next round. Hopefully the Sharks can finally dispose of the Avs tomorrow night.

Jordan Leopold will be one of the top Defensemen in the NHL in the near future. He looked outstanding all series.
Scheids
(A legend in his girlfriend's mind.)

Oh, how sweet it was to see the Avs go out last night courtesy of the Sharks. Avs have alot of talent, but they just don't mesh, or at least don't mesh enough to advance, lol. My Stanley Cup final prediction teams are still in the running: Flames and Flyers. I'm one crushed Maple Leaf fan after the tough OT loss last night. Man, after they tied it up in dramatic fashion, I really thought they could pull it out. I think they deserved to win it after they worked so hard and never gave up. They were so close to making it 3-2 before overtime even started. It was Tie Domi of all people who almost gave them the lead with no alot of time left. Props to Domi: He played very hard all series and showed excellent effort. Oh well. Did you guys see Tucker's huge hit on Kapanen? Man, that was a major bone crusher. Do ya guys think it was a cheap shot? Personally, I don't, but that's coming from a Leaf fan. Here's to an exciting conference finals and an exciting cup final.
