FYI-Just on the mshsl website and they do have the new section assignments posted. 4A adds Alex and Sartell, 8A remains unchanged.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... seebold at: 3/7/05 7:47 am

Re: hill? 2aa
no hill is not moving to 2aa, nor is roseville, which I thought should have moved back. 2AA is really the same, with the only strong teams in the section being HAstings, Tartan, CDH, and Woodbury.

Elk River
Why is it that whenever ER starts winning regularly in a section, they get moved? I guess we will just have to go back to 7AA and win that again.

Sections
I always have to laugh when I see the new sections assignments. First of all, why do the two Bloomington schools play in different sections (that makes no sense whatsoever). Also, why doesn't the MSHSL move more competitive teams into section 5AA. When one team wins the section 4 consecutive times, does that mean there is a lack of quality competition? The biggest no-brainer is to move Jefferson back into 5AA. Now 6AA has Jefferson, Eden Prairie, Edina, Minnetonka, and BSM. Wayzata moves to 4AA to replace Elk River has the perrnial section champ. Interesting, interesting, interesting. I wonder how they make these decisions.

5AA
5AA is just fine... Holy Angels has won it the last four years right? They've also won 2 State Championships in the last four years (I think)... they're a great team, and one of the lake schools needs to step up and take it from them... look for Rosemount to challenge next season!

New Team
After counting the teams on the MSHSL site and comparing them with the numbers on minnhock.com, there appears to be an additional team (assuming I counted right). I'm assuming it's in the 'A' divison, does anybody know who the new team is, and is it a new school or a co-op splitting into two teams?

Elk River
No one has anything against the Elks, no need to complain. They are simply the most logical choice to fill the vacated spot in a northern section. Like East Hockey said, NE MN schools dropping down, they need a certain amount of AA teams in sections 7AA and 8AA, and Elk River just happens to be the closest school.

Does anyone think we will ever see the day where so many northern schools drop down to class A that AA has only one northern section? I hope not, but it could be starting to move that way.....

MSHSL doesn't do logical
Puckster- The high school league obviously doesn't do logical. Why did they take Sartell out of Section 2 and leave Sauk Rapids and SCC in? Sartell/St. Cloud/Sauk Rapids are like one city. They could do some serious shifting with sections 2, 4, 7, and 8 and actually make these sections be "logica"....geographically speaking.l

Re: MSHSL doesn't do logical
In class A I agree they have it all twisted. I'm wondering in AA how long it will be before everybody is opting down and we only get one AA section up north, one in the south, and 6 city sections. Then, in turn, class A would be just the opposite. I hope thats not the direction we are heading<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/eyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes">

Re: Elk River
Puckster, I hope not. But, I think it's inevitable.

The big question would be this; do you make one totally northern section, which would ensure us at least 1 team from the north. Or do you keep them divided the way they are, risking that at some point, we could have an all cities state tournament.

Re: Elk River
If it ever came to it (which no one wants) I would hope they would do one all northern section. The thought of an all city tournament is a scary thought. Anyone at the Moorhead/AHA game would have to agree we need at least one, but preferably 2 or 3 northern teams in the tournament every year.

Re: Elk River
I believe the extra team is Mpls. North. MSHSL has them as a part of section 5A, however I don't think they've fielded their own team in quite some time.

It could also be one of the new schools like; Lakeville South(are they playing varsity next year?), Providence Academy(they had a club type team this year) or Redwood Falls (I heard they were going to start a team, I think they've had a Jr. Gold for a while now)

Section 5A
I saw that Mpls North was added to Section 5A Boys Hockey. Do they have a team? Again, The MSHSL had a chance to break up that section and sprinkle some of it's teams over to the cream-puff Sections 3A or 6A. But, instead choose to keep Totino, Blake, Breck, St Louis Park, Mahtomedi all together. Yes, BSM is gone to 6AA and they added Como, Mpls North and a few new co-op programs (I'm sure they are thrilled to now be in this section). Obviously, the MSHSL answers to no one & doesn't care about competitive balance.

5A
The only logical team to move out of 5A would be putting Mahtomedi back in 3A, the rest of them cant really make a case to leave because they are right in the middle of 5A territory, maybe move Breck to 6A but even that would be a stretch.
