Who all left for the USHL after the season?

Post by scottparker »

I see that Lucia, Oshie and Richards are on USHL teams since they ended the HS season. Who else left, and where are they? Is Lucia the only junior? Inquiring minds want to know.

I do not see Ramsey Wolfe on their roster. Was he part of their futures draft last year?

Compliments of that GoofyGirl:<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":p">

Thought you guys might like to see this...

Published Friday
March 11, 2005
Newcomer Lucia fitting into Lancers' stretch run
BY JOSHUA BUECHLER
»
Omaha Lancers
USHL

Since coming to Omaha as an 11th-hour addition, Tony Lucia has been turning some heads when many would be spinning.

The 17-year-old junior has made the transition to the Lancers from Wayzata (Minn.) High School rather effortlessly.

"I kind of expected the worst going into it, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be," Lucia said. "I think practice was a little more difficult than the games have been."

Lucia had a disappointing finish to his high school season, in which he excelled individually with 59 points but didn't lead Wayzata to the state playoffs.

Then he decided to join Omaha. He travels back and forth on the weekends for games.

While Lucia can handle fourth-line duty when he's used to scoring hat tricks, waking up at 3 a.m. for a flight home can take its toll.

The Lancers, who take on Lincoln tonight at 7:05 at the Mid-America Center, invited Lucia to their camp last summer and liked what they saw. Omaha Coach Mike Hastings thought Lucia would be selected in the top five of the next USHL draft, so the two parties decided to join at the end of this season.

Hastings, who credited Assistant Coach Keith Fisher for staying in contact with Lucia, said the forward can distribute the puck and has great offensive instincts. The pedigree is there. Lucia's father, Don, is the head coach at Minnesota, currently ranked sixth in college hockey.

"I think he's been in a lot of locker rooms and listened to a lot of speeches," Hastings said.

Lucia is a hot commodity for colleges. He already has visited Colorado College - where his father used to coach - and Notre Dame has shown interest.

Lucia has never had his father as a coach. "But every game he comes to is beneficial to me because he tells me things I need to work on - whether they are little or big," Lucia said.

Lucia's status for next season isn't clear yet, but it's no secret what Hastings believes is best for him.

"He wants to be a hockey player," Hastings said. "The easiest thing would be for him to stay in Minnesota, have a great senior year and then make a decision on a college or play a year of juniors. He wants to try and accelerate his development and play against the best competition right now."

GopherIce
