gabT,
Personally I hate the ice at the old Cloquet rink. Plus the locker rooms are so tiny that unless you have a ten man team you can't fit into them.

The Hippodrome in Eveleth is a awesome place to play and so is the Ralph Engelstad Arena up in Thief River Falls.

no question

Have to say - if you can tolerate the 80 hour drive to nowhere, there is no question that TRF wins - you know how much $10M buys in hockey rink in the middle of nowhere?

I would say northstar ponds is a great rink for getting better.

its smaller then everyother rink and its great to just play and not worring about wining or losing.

Northstar Ponds???

Post by xIcemen1x »

Correction, Northstar Ponds was bought by Noel Rahn, who recently changed the name to Velocity Hockey Center. I also agree that it is a great place for development, but since the lack of size, you can't really have a "true game" played on it. Its one of my favorite rinks, but not the best...[/list]

The new rink in Mound (Thaler Arena) is perfect. That would be the model I would use for any new facility.
Don't sweat the small stuff.
It's all small stuff.

"The Structure"

Post by SWPrez »

How can you not include "The Structure" down in Northfield???

One of the worst rinks in the state 20 years ago (one of the last to have 'chicken wire' instead of plexiglass)...can't be much better today.

What makes it the worst also makes it the best! Fans are right over the rink and unfriendly to opposing teams. Worth at least two goals right there!

JOHNSON ARENA in St. Paul,
Since the folks at Johnson fixed the place up with their own hands adding lockerooms, bleachers and additional bathrooms it makes it a tough place to play for opposing high school teams. Since the improvements I think Johnson has only lost once in the building.

Roseau used to be great than they went and heated it so the folks from visiting teams would be more comfortable. Bring back Bobcat and the froast on the arch.

The MAC in St. Cloud is great for spectators with the open concourse.
