Twins Trade Rumors
The trade deadline is about 7 weeks away, thus, some rumors we now here will come to fruition relatively soon. April and May have seperated the buyers from the sellers. The Twins no doubt are the latter.
June 9, Rumor #1 (source Star/Trib): Torri Hunter to the White Sox. Intradivisional trades are rare, though, any trade rumor concerning Hunter(and there will be many) is valid. Secondly, Sox GM, Kenny Williams, is capable of closing any deal to make his team better for the short term. Williams is definately a win now , worry later guy. The Sox would obviously part ways with prospect CF Brian Anderson in this deal. Who comes with Anderson? I believe the Twins would need one of the Sox starting pitchers. Vazguez or Garland are your options, the Sox will not move Buehrle, Garcia, or Contreras. Garland and Vazguez will play no part in the post season as 4th starters rarely do.

Trade talk
I read in the paper last week that they were trying to move Lohse and had talks with Milwaukee who could use a starter but the Twins were asking for too much for him.

Lohse
You're right, Lohse has not been effective at the major league level. But for some reason, he has drawn interest from many teams. His numbers last year weren't bad, and teams are hoping he can return to that form and finally live up to the type of stuff he has. I heard a Lohse for Bill Hall rumor that I would do in a heartbeat. Not sure how much truth there was to it though.

Castro
Well one things for sure, I won't have to buy my Lynx season tickets now. Though the Castro trade is no longer a rumor it still deserves some discussion. It's time to see if Bartlett can do it, At 27 it is now or never for him and this organization, moving Fidel to the NL is best for all involved. Castro was like Batista, they were likeable, had good attitudes, and seem to care when in the lineup. However, at their ages, what they are now is what they are, and it's not what I want to watch everynight. If Bartlett can continue to throw guys out from left field going to his right and if he can go from 1st to 3rd on base hits to left field, he has some staying power. Through two games I like what I see.
Deal..or no deal
The truth is that most of what has happened is just getting rid of people who probably should have never been here in the first place.
Lets face it, Ryan hurt this teams chances this year with his off season screw ups and personel decisions. What did they expect from Fidel..that he would hit .300?
We had guys in the minors who could have been more productive and for a lot less money.
Why was the pitching staff so unready to start the season? Why was Liriano in the bullpen? What the heck did they do in Florida for 6 weeks last winter?
There hasnt been a real trade yet and wont be unless they are way back late and Hunter is dealt. Nobody is going to give up anythng for Lohse.

Terry Ryan
I hope Terry Ryan understands two things. Number one, despite the nice homestand, this team is still a lot closer to becoming the Royals than the White Sox if they continue to spend and acquire free agents like they have recently. Following the recent Left Coast trip, this team could have easily slipped into a bottomless abyss. Who bailed them out? Who fought off the cancerous culture of loosing? I'll tell you who, it was the guys not old enough to rent cars in the cities they play in. The sad thing is when this team was drowning, Hunter, Radke, Batista, White, Silva, Stewart, and Castillo were nowhere to be seen. Whether it is an injury, limited playing time, or lousy execution, the veterans accounted for nothing.
Secondly, to put butts in the new stadium this team will need to compete. Tickets the first year will be tough, people who haven't been to the dome since the 80's will be fighting over their company's previously unused tickets. Look at Pittsburgh and Detroit, once the honeymoon is over, it will be the same 17,500 that were there last night.

The guys who bailed them out were the pitchers; Santana, Radke, Liriano, and now Silva. When the team was drowning it was guys like Morneau who were a big part of the struggles. If you can hit a HR every third day great, but if you can't field a pop up or scoop a ball on a daily basis leading to losses what's better? The pitchers kept the Twins in most of these games letting the batters get back in it with 1 swing. I've been a big Gardy detractor this year, but since he laid down the law to these guys the effort and attitude seems to be much better. The benching of Morneau then Hunter on consectutive nights after bad plays by each seems to be a turning point, showing that no one gets a free pass.
What team you been watchin
Wait a second goldy. It was Radke and Silva who put this team in a big hole with their pathetic performances the first 2 months of the season.
Those are 2 guys the team relies on in a big way. If they would have come to pitch in April rather than starting the season in June, this team would be 5/6 games back.
Morneau isnt over there for his defense.
Morneau, Mauer , Cuddy and now Kubel have been the offensive spark of this team....all year. Its been them and the young pitchers who have kept this boat form sinking.
The veterans have done squat...and that includes Hunter.
Hopefully that will change and in Radkes case at least he is back to respectible. Silva has a long way to go yet befor I consider him back.

The first month of the season the entire starting pitching staff stunk. Liriano has been solid since he became a starter, Santana turned it around in May, Radke in late May. The Twins are in the hole they're in because the entire pitching staff got off to a slow start and they couldn't score, then when they came around the defense went in the tank.
Twins sats among the 14 AL teams: 13th in HR, 10th in runs scored and hits. 8th in ERA, while pitching wa supposd to be their strong point their hitting has been bordeline pathetic aside from Mauer, Stewart, and Castillo.
Some people have short memories, this is the same team that couldn't score in Oakland 2 weeks ago, but the batters are saving them? While Morneau is hot now it took him until mid May to hit his weight and until the 9th of June to get over .240 consistantly, unacceptable numbers for a major league first baseman. Morneau stunk until the last 3 weeks. Hit hit behind 3 .300+ hitters and drove in an entire 16 runs the first 40 days of the season, the mess Morneau was the first 2 months of the season goes on and on. Not to mention his fielding cost the Twins 2 games on the West coast last week. He's still hitting a whopping .227 on the road.
You bring up Hunter, but in just about every offensive stat he's ahead of Morneau and Cuddyer but he's done squat? I agree he's undracheived but he's not alone in that.
This team has been anything but consistant, and that's the only constant.

It's obvious that this team can be great at home and just plain pathetic on the road. I have been a big Morneau fan since the start, and I will continue to be. His defense is obviously not great, but he is serviceable. Power hitters take the longest time to develop, and this is Morneau's 2nd full season, and last year he was hurt for a good chunk of the early season, so he is still trying to get his AB's.
The Castro-Bartlett switch has been a long time coming, Castro is a nice utility guy, but starting is clearly not his niche. Even if Bartlett isn't the SS of the future, he is a better option. It's also clear that sad as it may be, Hunter has to be traded. His offense is not nearly what it should be for somebody making his kind of money. His charisma and defense would certainly be missed, but that has to be found elsewhere now.
P.S-Sterfry did you get my message?
