IGH (1) @ SSP (2)

We went into our top rivals place and came up short. This was our first game and SSP's 4th. They got on the board first midway through the opening period on a deflection. We tied it up early in the 3rd with a goal from the point and with 6 minutes left they scored the game winner on a breakaway. Our guys were pretty tired late in the game which is somewhat excepted since its our first game. We were outshot 28-11. We played poor tonight but only lost 2-1. We got Woodbury on sunday and Cottage Grove on Monday so i will have those scores.

Woodbury (2) @ IGH (5)

Somewhat a better game for us this time around. the shots were 27-23 in favor of IGH. Woodbury got on the board first and than we scored four unanswered goals. Our first line clicked tonight scoring 3 goals and the other two came from a kid who takes about half the season before he can score. We got Cottage Grove tonight so i will have that score tonight.

This is our third straight shutout against CG going back to last season. Our next game is sunday against CG again at our place.

St. Louis Park 0 @ Wayzata 5

This game was so much closer than the score appears however. 3 of Wayzata's goals came a total of 49 secs apart to end the first period. SLP had 10 skaters to start the game. One player was DQ'd for verbally 'fighting' with the opponent from the penalty box (that won't happen ever again). Another was DQ'd after taking his 3rd penalty. These both happened half-way through the 2nd period. There were sooooo many BS penalties called in this game.
Park was issued 12 penalties including 2 game misconducts.
Wayzata was issued 8 penatlies and 1 game misconduct.
Park finished the game with 7 skaters 2 from GMs and one due to injury.
It's really too bad that these two teams don't get a chance to face off again. It would be quite a game.

Well redemption was ours tonight. We beat Moundsview White 8-1, and it wasnt that close. We dominated neutral ice and had a great forcheck. If we can get that defensive zone down, then ill be scared of what this team can do.

Rosville beats Armstrong 5-3 saturday night....Sloppy game, lots of penalties. Probably should have been 5-1. We have Brooklyn Park tonight. Supposedly they are pretty tough.

Cottage Grove (2) @ IGH (7)

I didnt attend tonights game because i am sick but we won. It was pretty much one sided from what i have been told. Ryan had a hat trick and 2 assists tonight and now he has 11 points in just 4 games this season. One of our better players got kicked out for fighting and is done for 3 games. Thank god this is our last game agsint CG because they are a bunch of hacks they had 10 pentalies to our 4. We got Albert Lea on Saturday and than Hastings next wednesday which will be a tough game espcially with one of our first liners out.

St. Louis Park

St. Louis Park had two games this weekend.

Saturday
Tartan 7 @ SLP 4
This was a hard fought game between these two squads. Both teams game ready to play. 10th Ranked Tartan being 4-0 and handly winning their first four as SLP starting slowly being 0-2 and picking things up every period as the season progesses. Tartan took a 2-0 lead by the end of the first period. By the end of the second Tartan lead 6-1. The 3rd period was a completly different game by Park. They came out of the break flying and won the period 3-1. Bringing the final to 7-4. Park's Goalie played a solid game stoping 53 of 60 shots.

Sunday
Mahtomedi 0 @ SLP 10
Park continued to play well as they did in the 3rd period of the Tartan game. This game was quit a one sided affair. Park outshot Mahtomedi 29-19. Lunquist had his first ever career hat trick and also added a play maker with 3 goals and 3 assists. Flannery had a steller game getting the Gatorade player of the Game award putting up 4 goals and adding an assist, just being an overall force all game long. Goalie, Bergus also was issued the Gatorade Player of the Game award stopping all 19 shots and coming up big in the first period stopping a flurry of rebounds. This is the Park team that I have expected to see all year. They are finally starting to jell a bit and playing close to their potential.
(note: Flannery being the unselfish player that he is donated his Gatorade PoG to Lundquist for assisting on 3 of his 4 goals)

Monday
SLP @ Osseo/Maple Grove
TBD - Update tomorrow

Monday 12/22/03
SLP 7 @ Osseo/ Maple Grove 1
Park continues their steller play against the lesser compitition. Again this was a one sided affair, especially in the 1st and 3rd periods. The 2nd period however was fought on both ends of the ice. SLP outshot OMG 32-23 only allowing one shot on goal in the 3rd period. SLP's 'Blue Line' really came through in the clutch today scoring 5 of the 7 goals and having a +4 by games end. The penalties were kept in check much better this game then in games past. Park had 6 (1 being a 10 min misconduct) and OMG had 3. Solsted was awarded the Gatorade Player of the Game for playing heads up hockey the entire game as well as adding a goal and an assist.

SLP has a few days off for X-mas break and goes to play Buffalo on the 28th and then a highly anticipated match against a Top 5 team, White Bear Lake - Orange.

IGH (7) @ Albert Lea (2)

Pretty much one sided game. We out shot them 32 to 17. We scored 5 seconds into the game. Ryan had another hat trick and an assist today. That gives him 15 points in just 5 games this season. We had 4 kids missing today and this game was 15 minute stop so some that had double duty today were pretty tired. We got Hastings on tuesday at our place. SSP lost to them 4-2 with a empty net goal. It should be a good game.

Sunday 12/28/03
SLP 3 @ Buffalo 3

This was a knock-down drag-em out game from the drop of the puck. Our big hitter collided with Buffalo's Biggest hitter about 3 minutes into the game, and WOW. There was a rumble throughout the arena. Our guy came back to the bench with his facemask dented into his nose. That pretty much set the tone for the game. Buffalo scored first on a 2 on 1 shot from the dot 2 minutes into the game, but Ricky slamed home a rebound w/ 30 sec left in the period to tie it 1-1. Park outshot Buffalo 10-8 in the 1st. Park came out flying in the 2nd and scored 30 secs in to make it 2-1 on a Dahl goal assisted by Zach & Dane with his 2nd Asst of the night. Buffalo was able to tie it up 7 min later. Scored was tied 2-2 heading into the break. 3rd period both teams were rejuvinated and and came out hitting hard. Buffalo took the lead with 3 mins to go on a break-away from a 'cherry-picker' which squeeked past out Def duo. With a min and a half to play Park tried to get the puck out of there zone but took half that time just to do that. With 40 sec left Park pulls the goal and holds the puck in Buffalo's end tallying 4 shots in the final 30 secs. With 4 secs remaining a rebound popped out to Parks lone Def, Hammack, and he put it past the goalie who was screened by all 5 of the other Park skaters. This tied the game 3-3 to earn both teams 1 pt in the standings.

Well we made it though the toughest three game stretch in out schedule with two losses by only two goals, and a tie.

We first played Eden Prarie Black, and actually took a 3-1 lead which we relinquished in the second periord by giving up two unassisted goals. the game was tied at 3's going into the third period...we gave up a quick goal then a short handed goal, only to storm back and score one of our own with 4 minutes left. We peppered their goalie for the final minute, but could not put it past him. Good game, and i wish everybody luck when they play this team!

Next game: A 2-2 tie against white bear lake black. It was yet another crowd pleaser, and we were able to get a point out of the deal. We did out shoot them 30 to 15. A very gutty effort by their goalie got them a tie.

And finally the dreaded TARTAN.... I will say this, "they're not all they're cracked up to be!" We ended up losing 7-6, and gave them 4 soft goals. We jumped out to a 2-1 lead only to relinquish that lead once again. It was tied at the break for the third game in a row, and we gave up a short handed goal 4 minutes into the period. We answered, but so did they...

I am really pleased with the play of the team, and if we can get some consistent goal tending i feel sorry the team we play...including tartan

We took our shot at Buffalo tonight and it was the definition of ugly. We only scored two even strength goals. We still won 5-0, but it should have been a blow out from the get go. We didnt give up a shot till the second period and then to top if off we took several dumb penalites by the kids talking to the officials and taunting the other team. They were read the riot act after the game and from now on the refs won't be doing all the punishment.

Tuesday 12/30/03
WBL-Orange 4 @ SLP 1

What an intense game from the Park squad tonight. We knew coming into this match that this would be our toughest of the season thus far and that proved to be right. That WBLO team is a quick bunch of skaters. They really move the puck well. The bounces really went WBL's way tonight, every time the puck come off a stick it went to their guys.
The night didn't start off so hot for Park. WBL scored on their 2nd and 7th shot of the game. Taking a 2-0 lead in the first 3 minutes. From then on Park really stepped up their play and scoring with 2 minutes to play on a feed from Ricky that sprung Dahl on a breakaway. Dahl stuffed it home coming back short side on the WB goaltender. WB lead 2-1 after the 1st. Tonight was the night that Bergaus (goalie) really seemed to come out of his shell. After those first two goals it really seemed as though nothing was going to get past him. He came up BIG several time stopping everything in sight. There were no goals in the 2nd and WB took the 2-1 lead into the break. Park realized at this time that with a little luck and a lot of hard work they can play with anybody in this league. Halfway through the 3rd WB scored a short-handed goal that barely tricked across the stripe. Then also score a power play goal with 7 minutes remaining to take the 4-1 lead. WBLO outshot Park 39-12 and was very much the dominate team on the ice, but as long as Park comes to play it will always be a game.

Hastings (5) @ IGH (1)

Last night was a bad one. Us coaches are disappointed in the kids and a little upset. We got our butts kicked last night and played by far our worst game of the year. We made mistakes in this game that we didnt in the first five games of the year. Hastings moved the puck really well and never got out of position. We really needed Hank in this game but he is serving a 3 game suspension for fighting and still has one game left to serve. Thank god this was our only tough game while he is out. Looks like we have alot to work on at practice on sunday. Our next game is friday at our place against Albert Lea.

Thursday 1/1/04
SLP 5 @ Hopkins 5
Record 2-4-2
We came to quite the realization this game that we need to step up our play to start the 1st and 3rd periods. Hopkins came out and scored 30 secs into the game, but Park scored 30 secs later to tie it up on a Olson goal from Ryan & Dane. With 3 minutes to play in the 1st Hopkins scored on a PP to take the lead, but again Park came back and scored w/ 30 secs remaining in the 1st on a goal by Dahl assisted by Olson and Zach to tie the game 2-2 after the 1st. Park scored the first two of the 2nd on goals from Zach and Ian, Ian assisted Zach's goal as well. Then SLP went into their 2nd period slump and gave up one with 11 secs remaining. But still held the 4-3 lead heading into the break. This game should not have even been close at this point. Park was outshooting and for the most part out skating Hopkins but things just wouldn't fall into place. To start the 3rd Hopkins scored 14 secs in, basically right off the face off. This is something Park really needs to work on. Hopkins then took the lead with 6 mins to play on a goal that was assisted by a player that wasn't even on Hopkins roster. (I'm looking into this further) Park tied it up 5-5 with 3 minutes left on a PP goal from Zach assisted by Dahl. At this point the game really started to get chippy and began to get out of hand. With 44 ticks left on the game clock Hopkins was called offsides and their player got mad and took the shot anyway. He recieved a 2 min minor for Delay of game and was ejected for w/ a misconduct. At this point the 90 min buzzer rang and the game was called. How can you call a tie game w/ 44 secs left and one team going on the PP because of a 90 minute clock. That just doesn't seem right to me.

Albert Lea (2) @ IGH (5)

Last night the hangover from the Hastings game stayed with us for the first two periods. We were down 2-1 going into the thrid but after some butt chewing by the coaches the guys came out flying. We tied it early in the period with a rebound goal form Nichols. Nichols next shift he came out with a breakaway that really stung Albert Lea. After that we controlled the play the rest of the game getting a goal out of our first liner Hunter and then a empty netter from Krumm. This game was really good for us because last years team(10 returning players this year) would have not over come this like they did last night. I guess the guys learned how loses and ties to this bottom teams can hurt you in the standings at the end of the year.

We got Rochester White on wednesday and then we play our first game of the South St. Paul Tourney on thursday against Eden Prairie Red at 7:15 at Wakota. It should be a good Tourney with Tartan also in it. Last years tourney 3 of the 4 district 8 teams went forward and the 4 metro teams all lost in the first round.

Saturday 1/3/04-Sunday 1/4/04
SLP @ Watertown, SD JV Tournament

Park attended a 6 team JV tourney in Watertown SD this past weekend. The Park team skated shorthanded at this tourney with only 10 skaters and a goalie. Other teams in the Tourney included: Souix City, IA; Watertown, SD; Aberdeen, SD; Mitchell, SD; and Souix Falls, SD. Let me tell you this arena is cold, the stands weren't too bad but the benches are a whole nother story.

1st Game 1:30pm
SLP 5 Vs Aberdeen 3
After a 4 hour drive to the neighboring state, the kids were quite tired and started this game like they rode in the trunks of the car the whole way there. They were cold. Aberdeen scored 25 secs into the game on a shot that was misjudged by the goaltender and went in stick side high. But park was able to tie it up on break-away goal by Ryan with 2 1/2 mins remaining to come out of the 1st w/ a 1-1 tie. The 2nd period was no different, the kids came out very flat and gave up a goal 1 1/2 mins into the period. But this time they were able to get one back 1 min later on a Ian goal from the point assisted by Tylor. Again, we took a 2-2 tie into the locker room for the 3rd period. Aberdeen Scored first in the 3rd to take the 3-2 lead and then the kids realized it was time to play hockey. With 5 minutes remaining they knew there was NO WAY they should lose to a team like this. Tylor then scored a pretty goal from Zach and then a minute later Brad scored a break away on a nice feed from Ricky to take the 4-3 lead. With less than a minute remaining I witnessed the longest backhand goal in my history. Ryan took a break out pass from Ian and just backhanded this out of the zone from lower than the hash mark along the boards. Perfect shot hit the corner all the way down the rink and Park takes the win 5-3.

2nd Game 8:30pm
SLP 2 Vs Watertown 3 (OT)
Park faced the host team Watertown, which comprised their team of both JV and Varsity players. Both teams came ready to play this game. To open the game SLP set the physical tone for the game coming out hitting the first 5 minutes. Both teams had 2 powerplays each this 1st period and neither was able to capitalize. The 1st period ended with no score. In the 2nd Watertown scored first 40 secs into the period. But again SLP came back to tie it up 1-1 less than a minute later. This is how the period ended. Moving on to the 3rd period. Park come out of the gates flying and really controlling the game at this point. SLP scores first on a semi-breakaway goal that Ryan flat out muscled the man and was able to slam the puck home taking a 2-1 lead 3 mins into the 3rd. Park continued to play well, but Watertown tied it up 2-2 with 3:25 left to play. Regulation ended and this game went to OT. Fatigue started to show out of the Park 10 at this point and even though SLP was issued a power play they only managed to get 2 shots on net. After that Bergaus stop a few good shots and then with 1:30 left in OT Watertown stuffed home a shot as their best player walked the puck out of corner pretty much uncontested. Bergaus stopped 35 of 38 shots in the 3-2 OT loss.

Game 3 Sunday 9:15am
SLP 6 Vs Mitchell 1
Coming into this game the Park boys were over confident and thinking that this is going to be a cake game. However the Kids from Mitchell bet Aberdeen 4-2 in their 2nd game and really come onto the ice with some confidence that if they play hard they can win this game. The first period kind of seemed that way. Park scored 2 in the first from Brad on assists by Doug and Ricky. This was Doug's first point in his hockey career, being that this is his first year playing. But Doug would not stop there. About 2 mins later he was in perfect position to pick up a loose rebound and drive it home for his 2nd point and very first goal. Everybody on the team was excited for him. Park took a 2-0 lead into the 2nd. Doug wasn't satisfied with 2 points today he just had to take charge and assist once again on a Ricky goal. At this point most of the players were thinking that we will walk all over this team and started playing sloppy. Mitchell then scored to trail 3-1 and one of the Park players recieved his 3rd penalty of the game and decied that he would start to run his mouth. Us, as a coaching staff would have none of that, and sent him to the locker room for the remainder of the game. Park held a 3-1 lead heading into the 3rd, but was not satified by their level of play. Coming out and scoring 3 in the 3rd and controlling the entire period. Ryan had 2 and and Brad added his 2nd which would have been a penalty shot (even confirmed by the official) if he had not scored. Ian also added an assist on each of their goals feeding them the pass that lead to a break away. SLP won the game 6-1 to finish the tourney. Bergaus stopped 24 of 25 shots and the defense did an outstanding job stepping up at the Blue Line making Mitchell take long shots.

Not a bad tourney all-in-all. Some confidence was built and a tough OT lost to Watertown put a bit of fire in the players belly, hoping to take that back to MHL league play.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... h@mnhs>SLP Coach at: 1/5/04 4:23 pm

www.Stickstats.com They show the standings but they dont show the score of the games. If you want to see who has played each other just go to league schedules. If you want to know anything about the teams in District 8 you can also ask me.

Looks like woodbury is middle of the road. Do you know much about them and how would they match up against say lakeville or rochester red? those are the only two teams we have played from D8. We play woodbury in a tourney at the superrink in a week and a half.

Woodbury has a bunch of average players. They dont have anyone that is a big threat to score. They also have a goalie that if you get to him earlier the flood gates will open up. He lets his emotions affect his play. Woodbury wont finish higher than 6th. After watching Lakeville for the first time last night against SSP (SSP won 3-1). Out of the three you mentioned Rochester Red is the strongest, though i havent seen them play. Than i would say its Lakeville only because they have a better goalie than Woodbury.

We have the SSP Tourney this week. Our game is at the same time thursday but now we will be playing Moundsview White because Eden Prairie Red backed out. After looking at the brackets it should be Tartan against WBL Black in the one semifinal and than SSP and Us in the other semifinal. Looking at MV-White record and games i think we should beat them. I see you guys played them is there anything i should worry about with them.
