they are a little chippy...decent size, but slow. It looks to me like Mounds View stacked one team, and white is the worse of the two. In out tourney game we actually had to go to double OT to beat them after already playing a double OT game earlier that day. As you saw though in league play a week later we beat them 8-1. You can easily skate around one man and pass around the next. good luck

Tuesday 1/6/04
SLP 2 @ WBL-Black 3 (60 min game)

The Park boys come out to play tonight, at least it started out that way. In what should have been the first game all season that SLP had their full team together, we were missing 3 players: Ricky, Dane, and Derek.
The first period was SLP's best of the night by far. We more than doubled WBL's shots and took a 1-0 lead to end the 11 min 1st period. Zach took a nice rebound shot from Ian while on the Power Play to put Park up 1-0, 5 minutes into the game. There were also 3 or 4 other high percentage scoring chances this period but SLP just couldn't put the puck home. Either missing the open net or letting the puck slip off their stick. The 2nd period began and WB started to pick up their game, or rather Park really let up. WB outshot Park 13-4 in the 2nd period and scored a Power Play goal with 3 minutes left. Again, just like all year, Park bounced right back and scored a couple minutes later on a Dahl Power Play goal on an Assist from Zach. This gave Park a 2-1 lead heading into the 3rd. The first 2 mins of the 3rd the puck didn't leave WB's zone but SLP only managed to get off 2 shots. WB scored on their first break out of the period with 9 mins remaining and then again 20 secs later to take the 3-2 lead. With about 5 minutes to play Park picked back up again and began to control the game. But with 2:44 remaining on the clock the 60 minute buzzer sound and Park takes the 3-2 loss. Once again that darn Time-Limit buzzer comes to bite Park right in the butt.
These are the type of games that SLP really must win to become a playoff bound squad.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... h@mnhs>SLP Coach at: 1/8/04 10:50 am

SSP Tourney scores

Post by freighttrain »

Quarterfinals
Tartan (4) vs. Lakeville (1)

WBL-Black (4) vs. Forest Lake (1)

IGH (2) vs. Moundsview-White (1) OT

SSP (7) vs. Hopkins (2)

Tonight was a better played game by us but still not as good as earlier in the year. tonight we switched some lines around and it seemed to work. we outshot them but just couldnt put the puck in the net. Hank scored the game winner off a nice feed from Jason. Jason came out from behind the net and passed to Hank out in front and Hank buried it. This game was good for the kids they seem to be finally coming together as a team.

Yeah, we played alright and beat a pretty quick Lakeville team. Most of the game was in their zone but they clogged up the slot pretty bad so we could just get shots from the outside.

I thought in the White Bear game it was going to be a lot worse than the 4-1 final score.

Good luck to everyone with the rest of the tournament!

I'll help out here by answering some of these questions:

Freightrain is one of the coaches on IGH.
CoachGuy is one of the Roseville coaches.

CoachGuy really didn't say that Tartan is not that good, he just said that when Roseville played Tartan, "They are not all they are cracked up to be...."
Meaning, having the #1 ranking in the LPH polls and being "labeled" as the team to beat from the begining of the season .... They are not as good as "everyone" has talked them up to be.

I tend to agree with his statment, even though Tartan beat us (SLP) 7-4 it was our 2nd game of the season and I would tend to guess that if there were a rematch it would be a whole nother story.

Re: who do you think is the best in state for junior gold B?

I may not be "coach guy"

But to answer your question from my point of view (you obviously play for Tartan) I would have to say that Elk River is proving to me that they are probably the best team in the state currently.

This is hard for me to say being that I have not personally seen them play yet, but from the scores and what I have heard from other people. They are the real deal. They are 9-0 and have beat some of the best teams in the MHL.

Out of the teams that I have seen play, I personally would have to go with WBL-Orange. But that may change after our next two tourneys in Hutch this weekend and Edina next weekend.

Remember this is just one guys opinion....

Ok...I'm not here to cause trouble or anything, but I'm the assistant captain for Tartan's Junior Gold team and I just felt we needed a voice now with all this talk about our team.

First of all, when we played Roseville it was the first time we hadn't skated in 6 days so obviously we were rusty, which really isn't an excuse but we still pulled off a win. I don't really agree with us scoring 4 soft goals but that's fine, that's your opinion. I think our goalie didn't play a very good game at all, I admit that. Maybe we will meet at the Super Rink Tourney...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

St. Louis Park was a pretty skilled team, probably one of the top teams we've played so far and I'm sure at the end of the season they will be playoff-bound (as will Roseville I'm sure of). We didn't have our greatest game there, we were up 6-1 after the 2nd but didn't close it in the third and we got caught off guard. Props to SLP for still playing hard.

So, being the number 1 ranked team in LPH and in the Metro Hockey League standings I realize every team we play from now on is going to be gunning for us, we aren't going to be able to win every game 7-1 or whatever like we were doing in the beginning of the season but we sure as hell will try. It's my job to make sure my guys are ready me being a captain and all, and I'm going to make sure we definately don't take ANY oppenents lightly.

Anyways, good luck with the rest of the season everyone!

Re: Everything

WOW! good to see this site was discovered all of a sudden by some other people besides me slp and freighttrain.

First things first its been a while since i got my scores up here, but we beat hopkins 7-1, beat mahtomedi 10-0, then lost to burnsville 4-1. The first two games were obviously lopsided, and we treated them like scrimage games to work out new people in new positions. The Burnsville game was a good game, and in reality we should have lost 2-0. We gave them the puck twice right up the gut in out own end and they capitalized, and early in the game we got a cheap one from the corner that the goalie didnt see. The third period they came out and just manhandled us.

Now in reply to Coach Guy Sucks "nice name, very original!" if i had to rand the teams we've played or that ive personally seen so far it would go like this.

1. Burnsville - From top to bottom best coached team we have played. No stupid penalites, and they were able to clog up the middle and still had speed at wing to maintain a good forcheck. They did however lose to WBL-Orange in a tourney, but i havent seen orange.
2. EP-Black - It pays to have one of the top 5 largest hockey associations in the coutry
3. Tartan - Nothing fires up a team like walking past the opposing bench and watching the coach write his expectations on a dry erase board for all to see. 7-1? honestly! And yes we did give you guys some soft goals from the outiside that werent special at all. I could have strangled my goalie at that point, but lesson learned, dont go down on every shot.

NOW i havent seen EP red, elk river, wbl orange, SSP, or hastings, but having 6 kids who never played anything higher than C level, i think we can still compete with everybody out there.

Does it really matter how someone scored or whether they were "soft" goals or not? A win is a win.

Post by CoachGuy »

i totally agree, and thats why i would rank you guys ahead of us anyday. you guys have found ways to win instead of giving up bad plays at the end of a game. Good luck to you guys in the SSP tourney and I'm sure we will run into your team again, whether its next weekend at the superrink or up at carlton.

Semifinals
Tartan (5) vs White Bear Lake-Black (1)

IGH (3) vs SSP (1)

Losers bracket
Lakeville (6) vs. Forest Lake (2)

Hokpins (4) vs Moundsview-White (3) 2OT

What a game today. This game today felt like a playoff game and how a IGH/SSP game should. There were alot of penalties today on both sides. The refs called a pretty tight and both teams got bench minors because of coaches getting upset at the refs. We jumped out in front 1-0 when Krumm finished off a breakaway. He then came back out on a power play and buried a slapshot from the point to get us up 2-0. SSP came back and got one on the power play to bring it to 2-1. But midway through the 2nd Lincoln Hughes scored on a wrist shot all setup by Hunter with a nice pass. Hughes goal came on a power play and gave us a 3-1. SSP had chances to get back in it but Ryan came up with some big saves. SSP outshot us 19-11.

Championship
Tartan (7) vs. IGH (1)

3rd place
SSP (4) vs. WBL-Black (1)

Tartan played a great game today. THey moved the puck well and our D couldnt adjust. I think though if Krumm would have put in that rebound that hit the crossbar at the end of the 1st that the game might have been closer. We also had 4 guys hurt. 3 of them are our top scorers though Tartan desevred to win and to be ranked number 1.
