Re: SLP/Tonka
I must say I am pretty dissapointed in the outcome.

Tonka 2 @ SLP 2

SLP came out tonight to try and turn their season around. The guys played a good game. Solsted scored 1 minute into the game on a rebound shot from Ricky. The puck didn't leave Tonka's zone the first 3 minutes of the game. Tonka game back to score on a breakaway as one of the Park players was taken down (yet he was the one called for a penalty) to tie it up at the 7 min mark. Park then scored to take a 2-1 lead w/ a minute left in the 1st on a Doug goal that he slammed home after Derek brought the puck into the zone. Park took the only 2 penalties of the 1st period in what was shaping up to be a rough game. The 2nd period was filled with penalties as Park took 2 and Tonka took 5. Yet after the buzzer to end the 2nd a Tonka player x-checked a Park player in the back as he was skating to the bench sending the Park player to the ice. The officials reason for not calling a penalty...."The period was over and he did mean to hit him...." Park lead 2-1 heading into the break. At this point shots were 15-15. The 3rd period began with Tonka holding the zone for the first 3 minutes and then the penalties really started to fly....while at least the whistle was always on a Park player. After one whistle a Tonka player punches a Park player and then continues to taunt him into a fight, as the Park player continues to back up the Tonka player goes after him. Finally, as the officials let this happen the Park player pushes the guy away. What happens, the Park players get a penalty and Tonka goes on the powerplay. Tonka scores a PP goal to tie it up on an unassisted goal with 10 mins to play. For the remainder of the game Tonka had a Powerplay. One of Park's players loses his head after the official calls a x-check on him during a face off as the Tonka players stick is jammed inside of his face mask (yeah that sure is fair), and tells the ref that he is sure calling a great game. The official DQ's him (rightfully so, the player should keep his mouth shut). 5-3 PP for Tonka that Park kills off, but not before getting another BS penalty that keeps it 5-3....but wait, the player didn't get a penalty as the ref told the score keeper, he was just DQ'd and no other player was told to be in the box. Park has 4 skaters on the ice after the next whistle with one player in the box. The official tells one of Park's players to get off the ice. Saying that Tonka still has a 5-3 PP. Next whistle 1:40 secs later, I call the official over to the bench and he confirms that the player was only DQ'd w/ No penalty and admitted to giving Tonka an extra 1:40 of power play time, but this is not his fault....even though he told our player to get off the ice. (just another example of our players being taken out of the game by the officials) Park had 5 skaters on the ice for a total of 3:30 of the entire 3rd period and 3 of those where the first 3 minutes of the period. Needless to say Park was outshot in the 3rd 22-1. I guess that is what happens when you’re on the penalty kill for the ENTIRE 3rd period. Bergaus had a great 3rd period stopping 21 of 22 shots many off of the back post. Regardless Park played a very good game and worked hard every shift. Even after all of this BS, Park still takes the tie and 1 pt out of the game.
(Thanks for letting me rant)

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... h@mnhs>SLP Coach at: 1/14/04 10:42 am

BVILLE Jr. Gold
This is the captain of the SSP Jr. gold team. (#13) we have a game at home against hastings tonight, going to be a tough game. but i will say im not as good a player as the IGH coach says i am. my team makes the plays for me i just finish them. looking forward to playing BVILLE in albert lea, will be a fun game.

re: slp/tonka
It sure sounds like you were unimpressed with the officiating in your game. You know, you can complain to the MHL, if you 'd like. From what I heard, the game got a little out of hand and the refs did a good job getting the morons off the ice. I like to see a good aggressive game where the refs let the kids play. But from the reports from SLPE told me that SLP tried to goat Tonka into Goon-hockey and Tonka never took the bait. Also, it looks from the outcome that the G from SLP came up HUGE and should be praised for keeping them in a game it looks as though SLP tried to lose. Nice job Goalie!Tonka must have had an off game and perhaps both teams were lucky to get out of that with 1pt. What do you say SLPC?

Re: re: slp/tonka
What do I say? - Well, you read my take on the game, as bias as it may seem.

But to your comments......
"refs did a good job getting the morons off the ice"
The Offical didn't really do a good job at much of anything. But I'll agree, the one player from Tonka and one of the players from SLP did act like morons and should have been off the ice due to their actions. He did do that correctly.

"SLP tried to goat Tonka into Goon-hockey and Tonka never took the bait"
Well, actually Tonka tried to goon SLP, and it worked because SLP was in the box the entire 3rd period. It really should have been much more even on the penalty side of things.

"G from SLP came up HUGE and should be praised for keeping them in a game. Nice job Goalie!"
I'll agree 100% on this one, Bergaus played a great game and did come up huge several times in the 3rd period, during multiple Penalty Kills.

Tonka must have had an off game
I'm not so sure about this one though, I just didn't see a plethera of talent. Maybe they usually play really well together and didn't do that last night.......I guess I couldn't say for certain.

I must say that the way the game was called last night, you are correct "both teams were lucky to get out of that with 1pt
With an evenly called game last night, Park would have come out on top.

Do you guys (SSP) have a Jr. Gold A Team? I would have to say it will be a fun game on Saturday in Albert Lea. Where are you guys staying down there? It sounds like you guys have a good team. Good luck with Hastings.
BVILLE

IGH Score
Rochester Red (4) @ IGH (4)

It was a pretty boring game until the last 5 minutes of the 3rd period. Rochester Red led 2-1 after two periods. They scored at the 10:10 mark of the 3rd to make to 3-1 and our energy dropped. But about a minute later one of our guys turned to throw the puck out of the zone and hit one of Rochesters guys in the head and he went after our guy getting a penalty and another of their guys went after him and he got a penalty. So with us on 2 man advantage scored two power plays goals to tie the game. just when we thought we could beat these guys they score a goal 10 seconds after we tied it so they went up 4-3. With just over a minute left in the game we get a 1 on 1 our guy goes around the Dman and pumps it in tie it up 4-4 and thats pretty much how it ended.

BVILLEJRGOLD, Only Lakeville, Woodbury, and Eagan are the only teams from District 8 that plays Jr Gold A

#13 SSP
Nope we do not have a Jr. Gold A team, but we only had about 25 people try out for our team this year. some went to IGH, 1 went to woodbury, and 1 went to rosemount i think. were staying at Americ Inn or something like that. Also we lost to hasting tonight 3-2, with some stupid penalties, but the refs called a pretty bad game. Good luck BVILLE and will see ya saturday in albert lea, have a good safe trip.

SSP or BVILLEJRGOLD
What time do you guys play this weekend? We got Wessy Boys in the other tourney down there on friday night at like 8:30. We also lost our best player last night for a couple of weeks and another of our forwards torn his MCL in the SSP tourney and is probably done for the year.

roseville
Roseville (4) @ TC Wessy (0)

Nice little game before the SuperRink Tourney. We held them to 7 shots for the game, and if it wasnt for thier goalie it would have been real ugly. Good luck to everybody in their tourneys...Tartan i hope you guys can get past Grantsburg so we can play again. It depends on if they bring thier vasity or JV squad down. N E ways, i will probably stop by after our game and watch yours, we play right before you guys.

...
Our team doesn't play Grantsburg the first round, White Bear Orange does. We play Souix Falls, S.D. If we win we'll meet one of those teams.

Last night's game...
Tartan (15) vs. Mahtomedi (1)

Nothing really to say about this one, a lot of the guys started feeling bad for them cause for a lot of the players it was their first time ever even playing, but that's the way things go sometimes I guess. So overall this week, without including North we outscored our oppenents 29-3 in 3 games, 35-9 with North included. It was good to play some decent hockey before the tournament because we'll definately have our work cut out for us in Blaine.

Another EP doubleheader
Got to watch another doubleheader in EP last night. The first game was the A team blanking Eagan 9-0. The other was EP-Black taking on MoundsView Green. This is not a good EP team. The final was

Eden Prairie Black (4) vs. MoundsView Green (2)

EPs 4th goal was an empty-netter and Moundsview even started the game with only 7 skaters. Not sure what the problem is with this team, but they can't seem to get up for the easy games. It will take a good weekend from them to keep them in the top half of my Monday rankings.

All in all a good weekend for us. With our leading score out other guys stepped up. Chris and Matt both had Hat Tricks in the 6-0 win over Wessys. The next game the PP won it for us with us going 3 for 5 on the night. The championship was a struggle. We took a 2-0 lead but couldnt put Cottage Grove away. I think the guys thought we had this game in the bag before we played it and also the new cottage grove coach has them playing really well. I was impressed on how much they have improved. They tied it 2-2 and with 27 seconds left Matt scored to win it. It was good to have some other guys step up but right now without Ryan we will struggle with the good teams. He may come back on Saturday against SSP. It was a well ran Tourney by the ppl in Albert Lea and we cant wait to go back next year

Albert Lea Tourny
Not a very good weekend for the Burnsville Boys. Everything seemed to be going well against SSP on Saturday morning until our #13 got out of control. He got a penalty for Tripping, went into the box, (as he was cussing out the ref, got another 5 min penalty.) Threw a bottle of powerade at the SSP student fans. When I saw that I told the ref to kick him out of the game. On hsi way out he broke a sprinkler head and set off the fire alarm. Needless to say our focus was disrupted for a while. We were down to 5 on 3 for 5 minutes. That really hurt. Not to take anything away from SSP but I would have to say without that outburst by our #13 things may have been different. By the way SSP #13, you played a heck of a game. I can only hope we meet up again in the playoffs. What was the score of your game in the Championship?
BVILLE

Super Rink Tourney
Yeah, I think WBL Orange is by far the best team we've played against all year. I know we can beat them though, we really outplayed them and outshot them 39-16, we just made a few mistakes and they capitalized, and our goalie let in a few weak goals. But they are definately the best team in MHL I think, we play them again this Friday and then play Elk River the very next day, those are the games that will make or break our season. We'll be ready this time.

Also, congrats Roseville on 2nd place in the tourney, you guys played really well. Hopefully we'll see you in Carleton.

3rd Place Game
Tartan (<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... lasses.gif ALT="8)"> vs. Brooklyn Park (3)

Tartan Boys
As it sounds, Tartan can skate and score with the best of them. Just ask the MN Wild and The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in last year's playoffs. Good D and goaltending is what matters in the end. The Tartan Bluejays will meet their maker.
