Thanks SLP
Thanks for the info. I will see what happens. Good luck this week with your games. They will all be tough. Just make sure you keep Elk River's shots to the outside. They like to crash the net. Make sure to tie them up in front.

Bville

No-show game
Bville,

It is probably in your best interest to reschedule the game. If you get the forfeit, you get a 3-0 win and take a 3-goal differential into the standings. With the tight race in the top ten, beating Wessy's by 6 or more (6 goal max in re standings) could make the difference in final league standings.

The MHL/District 6 rep to contact is Tom Slaird or Don Strom. Both numbers and e-mails are in the handbook or on the website.

Tournaments...
As the regular season is 3 weeks away from beginning, I was wondering who is where in the next 3 weekends? Tournaments that is...

Thanks for the input. It just sucks because our Feb is already packed to the gills. I agree though, it may make a difference in the end. We'll see what happens. I'll contact Tom Slaird and see what he says.

Thanks
Bville

Updates tonight please...
SLPcoach, please update us when your game is over tonight. I am curious to find out how the 'boys did.

An where is RAVE with their last few games?? Can we get a score update???

Tonka v Chaska
Tonka (4), Chaska (1)
Uneventful but a good game for the JGB Skippers. The Hawks like to go in the box a lot and get chippy toward the end of games. Just in case anyone plays them this season.

Score
Burnsville 5
N. St. Paul 0

Pretty good game last night. N. St. Paul sure was chippy in the third period. They would actually jump on our guys backs. I was very close to getting thrown out last night.

Speaking of Refs - has anybody ever seen this happen in a game.

Situation -
One of my players layed a huge body check on a player. It was vicious, but clean. The ref "DID NOT" raise his arm to signal a penalty. Nor should he have, it was clean. After the next whistle the linesmen went over to the ref and had and had a short conversation. The ref then came over to our bench and gave my player an elbowing penalty. I have NEVER seen that before. I was under the understanding that if the ref does not call the penalty then there is no penalty. Am I wrong?

BVILLE

ARs
Bviller,

As much as I hate to put it this way, you are wrong. There actually is no such thing as "linesmen" anymore. They are called Assistant Referees, which seems like a token title until a situation like last night takes place. ARs do not have the power to stop play because of a penalty, but they are also on the ice to watch the play and report to the head referee - at the next whistle - any infraction they witness. It is actually not uncommon, but seems to be the first instance in one of your games. I have also seen instances where the AR reported to the referee and no infraction was called because the head referee still felt he had a better look at it. You will not see it very often or regularly because the officials respect each others authority, but realize they can't always see everything. It's hard to say why this took place in your game, but don't feel slighted or mistreated, this is actually a policy of USA Hockey and is discussed in detail during referee certification classes.

Nice win for Bville. Nicer solid win for Tonka. The top of the heap is starting to get crowded.

Re: ARs
SLP didn't play last night.
We do play at home tonight Vs Elk River though.
I can give an update tomorrow morning when I get to work.
I won't have internet at home until friday.

Re: the AR's penalty call
It has happened to SLP a few times this year. I was explained that the penalty must have injury implications for the AR to make the call. If there was any chance of an injury occuring (judgement call) then the AR can call a penalty. Basically the AR couldn't call a hold or a trip, but anything else is open. Believe me I call them linesmen too, then I got a ear full from the "linesman" on how they are Assistant Ref's now. Unbelievable.

Stewardist v Flight Attendant...
..Is this the same debate? Linesmen v Assistant Referee I guess they had to change the name when the girls got involved. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin"> I am only kidding to the female fans reading...I have seen this call a few times myself this year. This IS a good thing in most cases, because one Ref cannot see the whole game. A bad thing if you are a cheap team i.e. squads like NSP & Chaska. Good calls are made away from the play and I only found it annoying when an AR decided to try to dictate the play by "taddling" all the time.

Case in point; the EP Tourney last weekend saw pretty fair officiating. But one of my personal favorite refs was on the ice with his crew. He was NOT the one wearing the orange stripes, but decided to make two (2) calls early to set a tone. He was also trying to "coach the coaches" on how to do line changes and play a better game. I, being a former player in the game and a coach, hate when refs give you suggestions on what to do. If they are so smart why don't they get behind the bench? This individual ref has got and still gets under my skin for these antics and others from the past and the EP tourney game I watched was no different!

I don't blame anyone for questioning this, but overall it is a good thing to control of the Jr Gold level.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... nkRat22 at: 2/4/04 9:25 am

Assistant Ref's
Thanks for the info. I'll always call them linesmen anyways. I just had never seen that, but apparently it was legal. SLP, Good luck tonight. Just be ready to skate and keep them out of the front of the net. We get to travel to Mahtomedi, or however you spell it tonight. Should be fun. What is the deal with them. Why is their record so bad. Can they just not skate or what? I see their goal diff. is like 14-154. I feel bad for them.
bville

EP Red score
In another JGB barn-burner . . .

EP Red (11) vs. Moundsview White (1)

By the way, the 11 goals EPR scored is more than twice the number of skaters MVW started the game with. The showed up with 5 skaters and 2 goalies - and finished the game with 6 skaters and 2 goalies. Things are not well with that team. Still trying to figure out how in the the hell(o) you give up a goal to a team with only 5 skaters!

EP Red @ WBL Black
EP Black @ Edina (6:45p @ Braemar for those who work in the neighborhood and would rather avoid the drive home to suburban Sioux Falls)

Hornets' Nest
Edina (5) vs. EP Black (1)

A 100% ass-kicking. Say what you might about EP giving one away, just don't discount this Edina team yet.

Re: Hornets' Nest
I told you guys! I was happy to come away with a tie vs. those guys. We could have beaten them, but i was more than happy with that tie. Lets us not forget they beat Hastings also. That top is tightening in the MHL standings! I think the top 12 are pretty much set....so lets battle it out for positioning now.

A HORNET HERE, A HORNET THERE...
I don't know what to say Mr. Observer, Edina must have played one of those games. They play really great D-zone and do "buzz" that net. I am completely surprised by that score. Black must regroup and com together to play tough v Red in the last game. Oh, and probably not overlook those teams in between. That certainly shakes things up.

Anyone hear about Tartan v Centennial last night??

BURNSVILLE GAMES??
Bville Coach,
Who is in charge of faxing in your scores? Ya'll have more than 4 games outstanding on the MHL site. I believe the rule is the winning team faxes them in. In the past, I have faxed them in every time and every game just to be sure. There is a slow-poke running the website, but if he doesn't have score-sheets he cannot post them!

He was in England over last weekend. I believe he faxed them in early this week. They should have our scores.

And that's why...
...I usually did it myself...

I assume you took care of the Mighty Zephyrs last night? Did I miss the score? Was it too embarrassing to list on here? You're normally pretty good about that - Bville-guy!

You're going to need to wait for a while Coachguy...
...We got the game rescheduled to the 19th this month because our team would have been depleted of nearly everyone, it's incoming spirit week at our school and a lot of people on our team are participating in the Incoming Volleyball Tournament. Just letting ya know.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

I'm too busy to fax in the scores. Not to mention I have the best manager in the business. He is on top of things. Like I said, they should have our scores. And to answer your question, yes we beat the mighty Zephers and yes the score is too embarassing to put on this webpage. No, actually it was 3-0. I was really expecting their goalies to suck. They made about 40-45 saves. Plus, I am convinced my team cannot function normally without our captain. Every time he misses a game we do not play up to what we can. (E.P. Black, St. Louis Park, Last night) We almost look depressed when he is not there. But, a win is a win. We still dominated the game but their goalies really did play well.
I think we'll fire against Armstrong tonight. We're due for a breakout game.
bville

Good luck then
...Hope you stay busy, what do you do? I don't really have to work as I am a multi-millionaire. I just like to read this forum and watch Classic and Lake Conference Hockey. I have never really been busy. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin"> No really, I understand. Good luck with the Falcons, I hear they are playing better than expected. What number is that captain of yours?

I am still looking for what happened at SLP last night???

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... nkRat22 at: 2/5/04 1:55 pm

Captain
He's #11. If you watch how he plays you'll know what I mean. He makes everybody on the ice better.
bville
