Expenses

Post by troll21 »
I am completely fine with paying a local association for expenses, I know where my money is going, back to my players. MNHOCKEY is monopoly for youth hockey. There are no other options (currently). People do not have a choice. The fee we are required to pay is crazy, yes it it minimal, but there is no return to the player. Associations pay a fee to there local district for the team, associations have to pay an additional fee to the MHL plus teams have to pay a fee to participate in playoffs. This play-off fee pays for the ice, refs, emt, trophies and other expenses for playoffs. The MHL does not buy ice, pay refs, or other ice participation costs. The expenses are Internet, administrative fees, and salaries of board members. (Information obtained from MHL Website minutes) Where is the money already paid?

Don't get me wrong, the MHL does a great job on providing a place, league, organization for these kids to participate and showcase there skills. I have actually enjoyed talking to some of the board members and understood why things are in place.

This is a bigger issue than just the MHL. MNHOCKEY and USA Hockey are the controls in youth hockey. Youth players funding select programs, Great 8 teams, national development teams, juniors, and International teams is outrageous.

FYI - on revenue and expenses. There is a thread in the youth Hockey forum
Since, the MHL or MNHOCKEY financial statement is not available on the website, I will us USA Hockey financial statements from the website. Of the $22 million in revenues, less than 2% is put back into youth programs. The elite players in the country get a great ride at the expense of all participants.
