hand shake after the game

Re: Handshake
Good for them, more tournaments should take that approach, although the tournament director should advise them what and when to do it to avoid confusion, also to make sure everyone understands why the importance to make it work. The more that make it work the better the chances of making the rule change.

Re: Handshake
gferhockey I dont really agree with that cause if someone comes and starts punching me and i push them off it could easily look like me punching them and we would both be done with the season, I could see this happening numerous times.

Re: Handshake
How about if reinstated, the instigator of a fight in the handshake line after the game is done for the rest of the year and if another just retaliates 6 games for the 1st offense and removal for the 2nd.

Re: Handshake
I could agree with greybeard on his version of punishment, but how do we make sure the officials see the instigator vs the one protecting themself.

See no evil?
There are 3 officials on the ice at Jr Gold games. It should be very easy to see and hear everything that goes on in a handshake line. You fight, you go home and watch the Wild on TV for the rest of the year and maybe even for the next year. Easily implemented and enforced. The only problem is getting all the officials on the same page. I watched a kid last year drop his gloves and go after another player. The refs had to restrain him. Yesw he had received a cheap shot and was angry but the rules state plainly that if you drop your gloves it's a Game Misconduct at all levels. He didn't get anything called on him. So you see, boys will be boys but parents, coaches and officials take the blame for inconsistent application of the rules.

Re: See no evil?
to tell you the truth I dont get why fightings such a big deal, 10 years ago everyone fought and thats what makes the sport awsome, now you throw a fist and its on the news later that night, they should just let the fights go imo.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... tchell6 at: 1/19/06 3:35 pm

Re: See no evil?
I personally would have fought in the right situation when someone did something cheap to me, but if we allow fighting then we open ourselves up to lawsuits in this day and age. Nobody wants that problem so its best if we dont allow it and punish severly for it.
A very good friend of mine is a major midget coach in Michigan and he was in deep $hip when he allowed 2 players who were after each other in a practice to drop gloves and work it out. The parents went baliistic, the local media was in their prime to cover the story and he almost lost his coaches card for a very long time. Thankfully it was resolved with only a few game suspension.

Remember the Petition!
Guys,

I have created a petition which I will send to the Metro Hockey League Board of Directors once a good amount of signatures are received asking them to reinstate the handshake after the game. Make sure to have everyone on your team, including parents and coaches sign this. It's time that we have a say!

<a href="http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/h ...

What's the difference??
Shaking hands is a sign of sportsmanship (regardless if it’s before or after the game)... They just do it before the game to avoid negative confrontation. It's unfortunate to make a rule such as this, but it is a necessary rule.

Jr. Gold players fight more often than other levels. I don't know why, but they get into fights more often than Bantam, Varsity, JV, etc. levels.

Why do you think there is the fair play point system? It's to give the teams an incentive to stay out of the unsportsmanlike activity. After the game, the team gets a point added to their season total if they don’t fight during the game and keep their penalty minute total (for that game) under 16 minutes. That helps their chances for playoff contention.

I hate to see it, but I and others are tired of the hot-headed players ruining the games for other kids.

Lastly, why do you think they started the rule? I'll tell you... Players were fighting and cursing at each other (unsportsmanlike) when the teams shook hands after the game!

FYI: I am not trying to rain on your parade. I am just giving my two cents. Good Luck with the petition.

PuckU has it right on da money.

Only takes a one bad apple to screw it up.

LMAO at you guyz who say "well the 3 refs can see who is da bad boyz and give em penalties or kick em out"

The refs have to do a lil more than sit back and watch and take down numbers to prevent da thing escalating to a full donneybrook thing, which it will.

Dem young boyz is so full of dat testosterone dat the slightest thought dat one of their mates is in trouble will trigger an all hands meeting at center ice.

What 20-40 yr old guy, in his right mind, (sorry fergot we wuz talkin about refs) wants to stick his lid into a fight btwn 2 or more 200 pounders going at it? How about stickin his lid into an all hands? Nope, not me.

Those of you who pine for dem good manners and handshake after the game have yer heads in dem ivory towers. Da MHL and dem Directors been around fer awhile. Learn from their experience.

Testosterone and adrenalin does not make for logical or good choices for the 18 yr olds, sometimes we got to protect da boyz from themselves. Maybe that's why da car insurance rates are so high for dem boyz.

We all remember what it were like before da rule was put in. Yep the league is real nice and clean these days, so lets keep it that way.

P.S. fer you Old timers a lil humour - my coach fer a year was Teddy Lindsey, yeah that Ted Lindsey. After our first game against Ferris State, he said "We have to do what after the game???"

Re: What's the difference??
why is this only a problem in the metro league?
put rules in place and quit making excuses for the
people cant handle sportsmanship.
you fight your done!!!

Re: What's the difference??
The Metro Hockey League board will make a change in the handshake rule if the coaches are strongly in favor. ALL of the coaches need to attend the end of the year pizza party for the coaches and express their opinions. Many of the Jr. B and 16 U coaches dont bother to attend.

Re: What's the difference??
They boys shake hands and they do it very nicely thank you. The ONLY difference is that they shake hands at the beginning of the game.

What's the problem?? If they were not shaking hands at all, that would be a problem.

Everyone take a big breath. I guess things must be going pretty good when the big issue is youth parents worrying about shaking hands at JrGold.

Re: What's the difference??
this isnt really an issue in district 8 JGold dont see why it would anywhere else

Bad to the bone.
All of the players outside of District 8 are hooligans.

The Puck – aka: The self-proclaimed People’s Champion
