Youth Coaches Helmets- What do you really think?

elliot had a questionaire for serious answers only. Here is my truthful answer- but because I couldn't leave out the sarcasm (which some may find not serious)- I'll start a new subject.

I plan to wear the helmet because the rules say I have to. It's probably a good idea to have one on, but I don't think it should be mandated. What is it going to be next year- cups?

Penalty for not wearing one? Good question. Didn't they think about that when they made the rule up? I'd say 10 push-ups or 2 minutes in the penalty box. How about let every player take a shot at the coach? (with Blue Pucks of course).

For me- I'm going to find the dorkiest looking 1970's helmet I can find. I think the CCMs and Coopers are still too cool looking. Any suggestions?

I am looking for one of those helmets with the light on top. That way they will know where I am at all times.

Wow, making a big deal out of nothing. Does it make you a worse coach?Does it cause you any issues? No, just like wearing a seatbelt, a lot of people said they would never do it, and now everyone does.

I don't think the coaches need the helmuts as much as the moms (and dads) who sit in the penalty boxes do. Not only is it cold down there, it is darn right dangerous!

I repeat- I'm not opposed to the idea of wearing one.

I'd like to see a hockey equipment company come out with a lightweight- possibly insulated- version for on/ near ice personnel. Something that would provide some impact protection without having to be an all-out game-speed caliber helmet. It could be less expensive and a little less obvious than the full blown hockey helmet. Maybe there's a way to hide some armor inside a tuque?

Coaches should be encoraged but not made to wear one. Of coarse no would wear one. I 'am sure that there are some long time coaches that will no long coach because of it. And in the end we will end up with even more coaches that do not know what they are doing.

The same coaches that complain about wearing a helmet must be the same people that complain about wearing seatbelts. Make sure you turn off all the airbags in the car too.

I've seen you coach Tyrell, I wouldn't brag a whole lot. There are a ton of parents that are glad you didn't get the Bantam job. Don't cry though (I heard you already did), I heard G-Po is done after this year, you'll have to find someone else to suck up too.

I hate the thought of wearing a helmet at practice...I like wearing a hat so my ears don't burn from the frostbite I got as a kid at the rink. However, it is not worth it for me to give up something I love (working with kids) and giving back to the game that meant so much to me growing up. The good news is we will all look like bafoons. I think it is BS that a rule was made by people who for the most part, I have to question when the last time they stepped on the rink with a kid (I'm talking about the guys with USA Hockey) But with all that, it is what it is, and I'm gonna look like a dufus for the thrill of spending the winter with a special group of kids working for a common goal.

I am glad that the coach Tyrell didn't get the Bantam job at Johnson. If it is true what I heard about G-Po not coaching anymore that has to be a major blow to the Johnson organization. Word is that him and his wife carry the Johnson program.

People up here say you were in a couple places and never really connected with anyone. The people talk nice to you in both places MHA and TRF but behind your back the comments are not very favorable. Hope you have a good season where you coach now.

helmets. IF MN And USA Hockey make the rule. tehn THEY not the assos. and district should enforce it and some sot of penalty to go along with,, to make a rule and have no enforcement in it is a plain JOKE.. how many meeting did it take to come up with a rule but no mechinisms of enforcement

I think it's stupid. Coaches should know how to skate they won't fall on the ice. They don't skate much at practice anyway.
