Youth Coaches Helmets- What do you really think?
elliot had a questionaire for serious answers only. Here is my truthful answer- but because I couldn't leave out the sarcasm (which some may find not serious)- I'll start a new subject.
I plan to wear the helmet because the rules say I have to. It's probably a good idea to have one on, but I don't think it should be mandated. What is it going to be next year- cups?
Penalty for not wearing one? Good question. Didn't they think about that when they made the rule up? I'd say 10 push-ups or 2 minutes in the penalty box. How about let every player take a shot at the coach? (with Blue Pucks of course).
For me- I'm going to find the dorkiest looking 1970's helmet I can find. I think the CCMs and Coopers are still too cool looking. Any suggestions?

Helmets
I am looking for one of those helmets with the light on top. That way they will know where I am at all times.
Yes I will wear one, reluctantly. What is next............. mouth guards???

Penalty box helmuts
I don't think the coaches need the helmuts as much as the moms (and dads) who sit in the penalty boxes do. Not only is it cold down there, it is darn right dangerous!
elliot70 you are a good guy. A true Bemidjian!
I repeat- I'm not opposed to the idea of wearing one.
I'd like to see a hockey equipment company come out with a lightweight- possibly insulated- version for on/ near ice personnel. Something that would provide some impact protection without having to be an all-out game-speed caliber helmet. It could be less expensive and a little less obvious than the full blown hockey helmet. Maybe there's a way to hide some armor inside a tuque?

Wear them and like it
The same coaches that complain about wearing a helmet must be the same people that complain about wearing seatbelts. Make sure you turn off all the airbags in the car too.

Cleaver username (bisatch), are you voting R or D?
You don't have a really creative side if you are just copying names. I hope you don't think that coaching with a helmet will be an easy change for people who have been coaching without for such a long time.

Are you hockeymoms coaches?
I'm a coach and I don't like it when people tell me what I HAVE to do. If you aren't coaching or coaches, please leave your opinions to yourself.

You call yourself a Coach?
I've seen you coach Tyrell, I wouldn't brag a whole lot. There are a ton of parents that are glad you didn't get the Bantam job. Don't cry though (I heard you already did), I heard G-Po is done after this year, you'll have to find someone else to suck up too.

Good to hear from you
It's a good thing I know who you are jhshockeyfan, otherwise, I might have taken you for real. Try coaching sometime instead of complaining. I'll get a helmet for you so you don't get kicked out for 30 days.

Tyrell is a good guy
I know Tyrell too, and I think he's a good coach, you need to lay off talking about coaching if you don't even coach.

I hate it
I hate the thought of wearing a helmet at practice...I like wearing a hat so my ears don't burn from the frostbite I got as a kid at the rink. However, it is not worth it for me to give up something I love (working with kids) and giving back to the game that meant so much to me growing up. The good news is we will all look like bafoons. I think it is BS that a rule was made by people who for the most part, I have to question when the last time they stepped on the rink with a kid (I'm talking about the guys with USA Hockey) But with all that, it is what it is, and I'm gonna look like a dufus for the thrill of spending the winter with a special group of kids working for a common goal.

I am glad that the coach Tyrell didn't get the Bantam job at Johnson. If it is true what I heard about G-Po not coaching anymore that has to be a major blow to the Johnson organization. Word is that him and his wife carry the Johnson program.

Thanks,
Duffus, you must know a lot about me to say such nice things, of course I'm be sarcastic. So we'll test your knowledge, how many years have I coached? Where? Any accomplishments worth noting?
Tyrell
People up here say you were in a couple places and never really connected with anyone. The people talk nice to you in both places MHA and TRF but behind your back the comments are not very favorable. Hope you have a good season where you coach now.
