Girls Section 1A

Post by SWHockeyGuy »

I have been a little lax in reviewing the new girls sections outside of my area...and I just looked at the new section 1A. This is going to be a tough section to get out of!

Austin and Alber Lea will both be very tough, and I would give my nod to Austin...they are pretty physical, play good defense, and if Kristin Faber plays up to her potential for an "entire game" they could play with most anyone.

I just watched Fairbault play a game in the Minnesota Showcase on Sunday and they will be very tough this year and Mankato West could definitly play the spoiler when it comes to playoff time.

I wouldn't count out Mankato West making a run at the section. They always seem to make the most out of what they have and Austin has a tough time beating them

West probably wont be a huge factor in the section. the biggest reason is goaltending. but experience is on their side so anything could happen

albert lea is very very young with only 3 seniors 3 juniors 6 sophmores 3 freshman 3 eighth graders.( not exact numbers) but judging from austin scrimmage.. they have 2 scoring lines an 1 solid checking line so they could surprise a few teams and possibly be a very good team in the next 2 years. They dont only have that one weapon everyone knows about. Which could be an advantage.

Austin looks like they have a lot of experience and confidence but with 4 pretty good teams in the section it will interesting to see who can be consistent in the win column. Sections this year should be fun to watch knowing that the real season starts and upsets happen in the playoffs

Austin is deep with lots of varsity experience and more good players than just Faber, and has a fine goaltender in Snyder.

Albert Lea is probably too young to make a run this year, but the next 2 years could be very close to if not at state.

West is good, but the jury's out on their goaltending.

It is possible that Mayo may surprise some people.
