Point Streak

Post by ghshockeyfan »

It's very preliminary, but there is the possibility that the MSHSL HS G Hockey teams will be offered the option of going with PointStreak this year as the statistical clearinghouse for all boxscores/stats. This will be a welcome opportunity for those coaches that have to enter stats many places, call many papers, etc. This way, the scorer at the game could enter this on a laptop as the game is played, then just hook up to the internet afterwards, all game data is uploaded automatically then to the website, and also all data is sent out automatically each night at a specified time to all the media, websites, etc.

Pretty neat opportunity I believe, and will save a lot of duplicate work. Plus, great opportunity for players to ahve their stats/info. available to all college coaches, including detailed contact & bio info only accessible by college coaches (for data privacy reasons).

There will be a per team setup & usage fee I'm sure, but it should be well worth it. EVENTYALLY, games could be uploaded in real-time if internet connectivity is available at the arena in the scorebox. So, you could follow along like you do for NHL, etc.

Most AAA & junior/semi-pro teams use this. Would be nice to see the boys go to it too eventually...

Sadly, this won't be happening this year. With the loss first of the VarsityOnline archives, and now the SportsHuddle stats gone forever it appears, we could embrace MaxPreps, but I'm thinking we may want to consider something that the Coaches Assn may have control over so we don't just lose a few years worth of archives every time a company changes or a certain media entity decides it's time to change!

There is still an outside chance that one metro conference may be a demo for PointStreak this season... Discussions are pending...

This is bad. I relied heavily on Sportshuddle to keep tabs on the stats and general seasons progress for the players / teams. With no assurance, or even a likelihood of a suitable replacement...tragic. I hope the PP runs updates on team records & player stats from time to time. Hopefuly with assistance / cooperation from reps of all teams.

Yes indeed. I figure as long as the PP doesn't do a "fantasy hockey" league like they're catching so much heat over for their FB, then all should contribute at elast.

There is a "replacement' for SportsHuddle - MaxPreps, but I have yet to see their hockey offering.

Sportshuddle

I was going to post a question about where to find the data that was on Sportshuddle, but I guess this thread gives me my answer. I was trying to look up stats on a goalie who graduated last year.

Oh well. Nothing lasts forever.

Stats from 2005-06 on Star Tribune Webpage

Post by farmdad »

I believe the Star Tribune has posted last years stats on their website. If you go to the PrepSports section, look under posing your scores..... or try cutting and pasting this URL:

That link points to a page with the link to the data that has been removed.

The MGHCA is working on its own stats program that will become the clearinghouse and central place for all info. When complete, this should be wonderful!

In the interim this season, until which time the MGHCA site is up, the MaxPreps people have started their Hockey sites for boys & girls... The boys site works currently, and the girls links you to 04 football, but I assume they both will work soon. The boys is at:

Is this just covering the greater metro area (based on what the site has for the boys) or is it still being set up to cover all of MN?

I noticed on this site that Apple Valley and Rosemount are both listed in the Lake, the MSHSL site has AV/RM combined, which is correct?

The MSHSL shows them as combined on the section assignment also
http://www.mshsl.org/mshsl/showcompsect ... tivity=460

I suppose EP has to worry about the combined might of AV and RM unseating them from the Lake title, similar to the fears from the north side of town over the North Metro Stars...[/url]

My understanding was that this wasn't possible by MSHSL rules. I guess something has changed. Someone said LV S & N did this too last year...

Combined for the JV not varsity on the schedules I see at www.lakeconference.org

Varsity schedule still has them separated. Am I missing something?

If some of us had known this was now an option - co-op JV only - I would think some teams may have looked at this option... Unfortunate that this is not made more clear, or I just missed it...

Looks like this is working now and linked form the MN Main page. I did try a test game last night to see what the level of stats/stuff was and it seems to be a stats package for another sport, so they must be fixing that as we speak...

combined JV

Post by SEMetro »

Lakeville North and South is combined at JV as well. IMO comboing at JV is a great option for high schools struggling with ##'s. I don't have a clue as to how much red tape has to be plowed through to get it done - and the constant tension of U14/JV makes early decisions on comboing at this level difficult.

I agree - awesome if truly legit, I just wonder if it really is - but it must be. I proposed this about 7-8 years ago and it was illegal then, so something has changed. This is an AWESOME deal if legit and it must be if 2 LC groups are doing it LV S/N & AV/RM. I see LV S today in Scrimmage so I'll talk with Coach Wilkinson about this too and get the info.
