JHS12345,

Are the head coach and/or the assistant coach for Johnson A Bantams from out of the area? Is is at least someone who has been with your program for a a while?

Cdog,
Both the new Bantam A coach and the Assistant are NOT from Johnson. The children that each coach has playing on the team are also NOT from Johnson.

I'm all for it though, cause we lost the word tradition from this area a LONG time ago. Just look at some of the things the Johnsonpres says on the board.

I like that idea Elliot,
I wish I could approach the board with an idea that. I don't think things are going to happen in our case. Our kids current association president just keeps saying, I can't wait to be out of here.

He has said that he will be gone as of next year. I wish he would stay, because he's been very good to my kids. I have a kid on his team again this year. My son really enjoys playing hockey for him.

It depends on the tryout process.

I have sat on the board and have heard that request and I have responded as follows:

We recruited 5(whatever the number) people who are knowledgeable in hockey who dont know your son from Adam to grade the kids.

When we added up the points ,your son's score was not in the top 15 skaters but he was in the top 30. He was therefore assigned to the B team.

After you and the B coach get to know each other ask him what he thinks your son needs to do to make the A team or maybe even better have your son ask him.

If there is a coach who knows the kids that is involved in the selection of the A team and who picks his team, you can have your son ask him what he needs to work on.

But the big thing to keep in mind is that its all relative. It isnt that the player isnt good enough, its that he isnt as good as 15 others.. and thats a big difference.

I have had many conversations with parents whose sons didnt make the team they wanted too. Contrary to popular belief, most of the conversations were enjoyable.

The people would invariably say that they saw the tryouts and they thought that their child did fine. I would always agree with them and tell them that he did do fine otherwise he wouldnt be on the B team.

The other comment that was typical was " Johnny made the A team and my son is just as good as Johnny".

My response was always : You are probably right and if we did the tryouts over again, your son would maybe get a couple more points than Johnny but guess what... we could say the same thing about the entire top half of the B team. (which was true BTW)

There isnt anythng you can write down . The reason the child didnt make the team is because he wasnt in the top 15. How does he get there? Work on skating ,shooting ,stickhandling and grow a few inches.

The head coach of the Johnson A Bantams and his family live in the Johnson Area, Yes it use to be Harding but now is a part of Johnson. Yes I have said I can't wait until next year but I think being here for thirty some years gives me that right. I played at Johnson and played for the Minnesota Junior Stars/St. Paul Vulcans and have been coaching here ever since. So if I say I can't wait until next year when I am done I deserve it over someone that has only been involved for a couple years.
