Barry Bonds and the Twins
With rumors swirling about the possibility of Bonds coming to Minnesota, what do you all think?
I personally think it's a long shot with our obvious lack of spending, but I wouldn't mind seeing it...any thoughts?

...sorry.
It was reported on ESPN.com two nights ago. Must have ESPN insider to view this.
From everything I've heard, the Giants want to sign Bonds, but the two sides are a LONG way away from an agreement.

Easy boblee, he is right.
WHO
Barry Bonds
Giants
INTERESTED
Twins?
Athletics?
Giants
THE SKINNY
San Francisco or bust?
Dec 5 - Don't be surprised if Barry Bonds returns to the Giants, but the two sides are currently far apart in negotiations. Bonds' agent, Jeff Borris, is playing hardball and asked the Giants for an $18 million, one-year contract plus a vesting option that could bring a similar salary in 2008, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Clearly, the Giants don't want to pay that much. Nevertheless, GM Brian Sabean insists they have genuine interest in the left fielder and that proposals and counterproposals have been exchanged.
"Does it make baseball sense?" asked Sabean. "Yes."

Bonds' needs...
I think Bonds needs to play in a place like Minnesota. After all, he is staying around baseball for one reason. And in MN, he can play DH/LF in a controlled environment year-round.

Bonds would be intriguing for Minnesota, in a strictly baseball sense, since they are always looking for more power and being able to DH would be great for Bonds. However, Bonds is coming off of knee problems, and turf (even field turf) isn't exactly the best option for running around in LF on a bad leg. Plus, how many singles do you think he would get banging the ball off of the baggie in left? The bottom line is, there is no way that Pohlad will pay $18 mil for one year of his services. Didn't the Twins try this aging player thing last year? (Tony Batista and Ruben Sierra) The Twins will do what they do best and stick with their plan of building a team through their farm system.

??
A. He'll hit zero singles off the baggie in left. Maybe one or two off the baggie in right.Zamboni Guy wrote:Bonds would be intriguing for Minnesota, in a strictly baseball sense, since they are always looking for more power and being able to DH would be great for Bonds. B. How many career home runs do Tony Batista and Ruben Sierra have combined? That would be 515. How about Barry Bonds? That would be 734.
Comparing Bonds to Batista and Sierra is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

He'd do great here. The baggie is vvvvvvvvery short. Morneau doesn't even hit that many off of it. Just to have a #3 or 4 hitter that gets on base via walks, singles or even homeruns would be huge. Just the threat would be huge. The AL Central doesn't have that many LH relief pitchers so going L, L, L in the order wouldn't be that bad. I think it would be good and I think we could get him for around 15 million for the year or two.

There is nothing wrong with a single, and getting runner on in front of MVP33 would only increase the Twins run production. Also, Bonds would be a better DH option than Rondell White, but I really don't see it happening. The fact of the matter is that Pohlad is not going to pay that much for an aging superstar for 1 or 2 years and Bonds has stated that he would like to play LF next season, not DH. As exciting as it would be to see Bonds tear the roof off of the Metrodome...I don't see it happening. Just my opinion though.
