Wes influnenced a lot players on the East Side. Every year he would call the team his boy's. For those of you who don't remember him he died on the ice in 1998.He coached for 40 years at least 35 of those years at the Midget and Jr Gold level. If you get a chance talk to the current coaches of Eastside Wessy's Boys about Wes. He is still missed by a large number of people.

During a practice he lifted his skate to miss a puck, lost his balance, went over backwards and hit the back of his head on the ice and died 3 days later.
There had been a push through the safety committee at USA Hockey before the accident. After the accident that effort was renewed and more recent accidents have kept the effort going.
till it was passed at the Annual meeting of USA Hockey last spring.

I suppose this has a lot to do with why coaches now have to wear helmets.
