Brainerd @ St Thomas

The STA Defense needs to step it up a notch. The offense is shooting this year without accuracy. At least they are shooting the puck. The fact that STA has been having higher numbers of shots on goal yet is still losing games tells me that the defense is making mistakes and Crandall is having some off games lately and letting in goals that he should not let in. The defense is allowing the other team to hang out around the net a little too much giving them too many scoring opportunities. The STA offense on the other hand is not around the net enough looking for the rebounds. The year started off good for STA as far as passing goes with nice crisp accurate hard passes. The passes now are soft and frequently not so accurate. Some would also say that penalties have hurt but the other teams have not been scoring many during penalties so I am not so sure that thats the problem although they have had a few stupid penalties lately that they should not be having. One more thing while I am at it- earlier on in the year they seemed to have better play development than they currently do. They have had way too many breakouts where the whole team is all on the same side of the ice and they almost seem to fight each other for the puck at times. There are no real puck hogs on the team this year but they dont always seem to think and pay attention to where their team mates are. Hopefully in the next few practices they can get some things worked out. They should have easily won the game against Brainerd. They should have won the game against Edina. But they did not. Yeah, they will probably start to win games again in the regular season but against some teams that allow them to be sloppy and still win. Thats not a good thing. STA is a much better team than they have been showing lately, but if they dont come out with that game every day no matter who they are playing it will prove that they are not nearly as good as the rankings say.

HS, St. Thomas should either opt up, or shut up about being compared to Class AA teams. Its so simple you can't seem to grasp it. If you want to stay in the NIT, fine. I could care less. If you want to hide behind enrollment numbers, great. If you want to compare yourself to top AA teams, come join the AA dance. I'm curious about something! Why is it that just cause Brainerd isn't from the cities, their players instantly get labeled as inferior to metro players. Both teams played very evenly the first period. About half way into the period, Brainerd's Frazer hit the water bottle of a great pass from defensemen Jelacie. St. Thomas answered about 2 minutes later with a shot that went five-hole on Brainerd's goalie Landon Snider. Although I didnt see the goal, I was told that it probably should have been saved.
STA controlled most of the second period. They kept in it the Brainerd zone for most of the period, but didnt have that many great scoring oppurtunities to show for it.
St. Thomas came out early in the thrid period and scored to put the pressure on Brainerd. Towards the end of the period, Brainerd got a desperation goal from #8 Engel off a rebound. With less than 2 minutes to go, Jack Freeman scored his second game-winner of the tournament.
Overall, the game could have gone either way. Both teams were very physical (especially towards the end of the game) and there were a lot of penalty minutes for both teams. However, neither team did much on their power play. A couple of lucky deflections either way could have made the difference. More than once, the Cadets had the puck just outside the crease, but failed to score. There was one time where the puck actually got behind Snider, but his defense cleard the puck before it passed the red line. Snider did make some very nice saves, including one glove save where a STA player was wide open on the back side of the net. The Warriors missed a couple of centering passes that could have easily blown the game open.
It was quite pathetic to see the St. Thomas goalie (Crandall) blow up on the fans like he did. No Brainerd fans (which consisted of parents, the JV team, and a couple of faithful
Warrior followers) said anything inappropriate to the goalie.Hova, did you copy that article from Bialka's collumn in Dispatch?? 
But that is sad that a player would stoop that low, and show his anger at people that had very little in the outcome of the game! If i am the STA coaches and/or administrator's, that has to be taken care of by swift and strong actions against the athlete. Sorry, PAL, you just can't do that!

He first squirted water on the fans and then gave them the bird. After that he started making fun of the Brainerd JV team for their loss earlier that day. Crandall also used a couple "choice" words that I cannot repeat on this board.pucknutz wrote:did crandall lose his cool? what did he do?
Since Crandall obviously cannot control himself, then the STA administration should do something to control him.
