I could understand if Esse worked them hard if they squeak by a team like Ashland, but Brainerd seems to be a solid team. If the shots posted in this thread are correct, Cloquet threw 40 pucks at their tender. From a guy who wasn't at the game, Brainders netminder seemed to be the difference tonight. The margin of victory could have easily been more than one goal. Again, this is complete speculation since I was not in attendance.

I just talked to someone who was at the game and they said Cloquet buzzed and couldn't bury it. They estimated that Cloquet hit 6 solid pipes. Cloquet had numerous chances, but didn't bury the biscuit.

CEC showed tonight that they didn't have to rely on their big 3 ( TJ, Jok, & Victor ) to put the puck in the net. I think this truly shows the depth that they really have. Brainerd is a very good team, and it was nice to see CEC's 2nd & 3rd lines ( Dunaisky & Defoe scoring), really step it up tonight. Not to mention D. Brown's nice goal to start things out...

ya brainerd is a solid team, but according to the radio cloquet had five pipes hit that all could have been goals. Not to say it should have been a blow out, but cloquet was the better team coming in and cloquet made a statement tonight whether the scoreboard shows it or not...

Just made it home from the 2hour+ trip. Everyone your welcome for the updates, it's the least i could do (unlimited texting is GREAT!!!!)

It's a shame CEC isn't number 2 in the state. Two AHA fans were there (one used to live in Brainerd, now current manager for AHA) and they think CEC is very similar, talent wise as their team!

No boblee Brainerd didn't dominate. Neither did CEC, yes they had more shots, but Johnson took two stupid penalties, one resulting in a goal for Brainerd. Overall i think the penelties were roughly 5-3 (CEC with more). Also, i counted 3 legit pipes, i think two were from the side that just barely drew iron

CEC DID play better then Brainerd, on a certain two on one for Brainerd Ellingson showed why he is a top G in state by making a SICK diving stop on a one timer.

Brainerd's first line did play MUCH better then CEC's first line, scoring both of Brainerd's goals. The difference was CEC's 2nd and 3rd lines (especially 3rd) played GREAT games. I was very impressed with CEC's depth.

I think Ellingson and Snider both played great. Stalemate in that department, Snider (3, 37saves) Ellingson (2, 24 saves)

Overall i think Brainerd showed (3-2 against CEC) that they deserve RIGHT NOW to be higher then GR (4-1 against CEC w/out Pat White) Yes GR fans wont agree....but Brainerd showed they are a top three team in 7AA at this point.

Brainerd's fans DOMINATED CEC's fans, not to be biased :D(numbers wise it was CEC 15-1) but i don't think the CEC fans open their mouths during the game.

PS What CEC posters were at the game, i want to hear what they had to say.... Me and Hova were both in attendence, in the heart of the Brainerd student section. I was much more noticable then he was

nhl06 and I just got back from the game! It was a pretty intense game and the seating (and the CARC overall) is excellent.

The first period played pretty evenly, both teams had some chances. Ellingson made one spectacular save (I think it was in the first) where he slid to the backside of the net and gloved Freeman's shot (centering pass from Chops).

The second period Cloquet kept the puck in the Brainerd zone for a majority of the period (as you can see, 17 shots). All of Cloquet's goals were from this period and I believe they all came off of rebounds. Their final goal was off a rebound where goalie, Landon Snider, lost his stick (bad luck). Brainerd's one goal this period was from #5 Freeman during a 5 on 3.

Third period, Chops (#28 ) took a nice pass from Swaboda (#13) and put it top shelf past Ellingson. The rest of the period both teams saw chances to score. In one incident, #14 from Cloquet (dont know name) checked goalie Landon Snider completely out of the net and there was no call. Instead Brainerd was called for a holding penalty. To me, this was an obvious mistake by the refs as seeing that Snider was on his back out of the goal with #14 on top of him, and no call. There at least should have been double penalties.

Cloquet over the game hit numerous posts and did have a couple missed oppurtunities on rebounds/odd-man breaks, but Snider still played very well with the 40 shots against him. Brainerd did also have numerous chances, but couldnt capitalize on alot of them. However, credit the Brainerd defense for being able to clear a good deal of the rebounds. It seems that on both teams, the offense had its way somewhat with the defense. Cloquet is a very fast team and it wore Brainerd down towards the end. During one instance, Brainerd defensemen Olson (#20) was so tired that he couldnt stop a 2 on 1 break, which was luckily saved by Snider.

I was suprised to see not much enthusiasm from the CEC fans seeing they are a top 5 team in state. The Brainerd fans had an answer to almost any chants they started (you cant really chant back after they score). For volume and intensity, the Brainerd fans easily dominated because we were easily outnumbered but were just as loud (probably louder).

nhl06, obviously your a little more noticable, but definetly not the loudest  .

Mo noticed that on cable access tv, from the carleton county lockup they got me stuck in this week...way more noticeable...not sure if that is a compliment either way..

Mo has a question for all you hockey experts since I'm so stupid...

If you hit the pipe and the net is empty, goalie pulled.....does that count as a shot on goal? I mean really so that Snider guy gets a save and he is restin on some pine? The math teacher wasn't counting shots tonight on my cell room screen.

Thanks for the descriptive accounts of the game.

Cloquet

It is shaping up to be Cloquets year. If they get out of 7AA can they handle the cidiots? Or will they fold as they have historically done down at St. Paul. If the pulp peelers make it I am hoping that Esse's crew can make some noise in St. Paul. A Cloquet - Moorhead final would be a dandy to take in.

Brainerd vs CEC

Post by wild77 »

Good game. When CEC went up by 2 (2-0) I though the floodgates might open up on Brainerd. CEC was playing reasonably well and it looked like they were handling the best Brainerd had to give. Then I think, CEC's first line was out and Brainerd scored. Suddenly, Brainerd had life and we had a hockey game. Although CEC had a lot of good oppurtunities to score (and I mean a a lot) Brainerd had a few also. Ellingson made some great saves. He had one of the best saves I have seen in years in the second period. brainerd did an excellent job breaking the puck up the center of the ice and their PP gave the some good opportunities to score. Brainerd did a very nice job putting pressure on CEC in the last minute. Good game
