Bauer "Bumps"

Post by D16Dad »

Anybody have any experience with Bauer "Bumps" (formation of bone spurs at heals and ankles) from Bauer Vapor XXX's? Son has never had problems with his previous skates until his Vapor XXX's.

I can't say that I personally have, but I've seen some pretty nasty cases. Does anyone know why that happens?

Bone spurs from vapor XXX's

Post by hockey123 »

I have experienced bone spurs from Bauers. I stopped wearing Bauer Vapor XXX's but still have the bumps on my heels. Anyone know if they go away eventually or what causes them?

From the website Mayoclinic.com

It isn't clear what causes bone spurs, but doctors believe they occur in reaction to changes in your joints due to diseases and aging. Bone spurs usually occur as a result of a disease or condition — most commonly osteoarthritis. But they can also form on their own.

Plantar fasciitis. A bone spur, sometimes called a heel spur, can form where the connective tissue (fascia) connects to your heel bone (calcaneus). The spur results from chronic irritation or inflammation of the connective tissue, but it doesn't cause the pain associated with plantar fasciit

I have really only heard of this happening with the Bauer Vapor XXX's. Is it occurring with other skates as well? From what I understand they will not go away on their own. My son has been using cutout pads to minimize irritation but if we elect to have them removed (messes up baseball :( ) I want to make sure we choose the right skate boot for next year. I see that with the 190's they claim to have removed all free space in the boot. Was this done to alleviate this problem? Thanks.

they happen with other skates to like graf's, but the only way that i could think of to heal them, if possible, is to ice and lay off for a while.

Yeah, I have bone spurs in my heel, but I have never used the vapor XXX's. I think they are most commonly developed by using the graf skate. But, I think that it depends on the player. Some players have a harder time keeping their feet in good condition rather than others, who consistently have no problem.

four boys on our team last year got bone spurs. some were painful some not. three of them had Grafs. One boy switched from Graf to Bauer XXX and the Bone spurs went away. However this year he gets what I refer to 'point' pain. Around the ankle point on the outside and inside of the foot. The pain goes away when he plays barefoot. I believe the tight fitting boots now adays don't really allow for growth, which probably has occured and he just needs to refit his boot. I really don't have an answer but thought these facts may go well with this topic.
