who cares its just 1 game. it doesn't count for eithers district standings...............but i played against both teams this year and i would have expected Grand Rapids to walk all over Bemidji.

i have to totally agree with the reffing thing. I believe that GR should have stomped Bemidji. GR let up one weak goal and just could not bury the biscut. it could easily have been 4 or 5 nothing.

Rapids 0, Bemidji 1
Agree - Brutal refing. Was okay through the first peroid, but then it went bad from there.
Bemidji is a decent team, but Rapids still should have easily beat them. They just have to be more consistent with their play.

So Bemidji won, but Grand Rapids is better???

Because the refs were bad????

One ref from Grand Forks and one from Grand Rapids, were deliberately bad or just plain bad, but bad enough to make Grand Rapids the better team????

I believe I have heard this story before.

Refs were bad, but not at total fault. GR didn't bury their chances and the Bemidji goalie played very well. Shots were somewhere around 40-27 in favor of GR. Rapids probably holds the edge as the better team, but needs to play much more consistently to succeed the rest of this season.

I agree that Grand Rapids is a good team.
But apparently Bemidji is a good team also.

Now, not being there I cannot answer anything about the intangibles of the games, but...
do we not keep the score too determine a winner (the better team).

I am not saying that Grand Rapids would not (or would) win if and when they play again, but at this point in time, Bemidji IS the better team (they won).

Bemidji

Post by northwoods oldtimer »

I am with Elliot right now, Bemidji is hands down the best in the north land followed by Warroad and Brainerd. Grand Rapids is flying under everyone's radar and that is a very good thing for the coaches as they have 1 and 1/2 months to build that team into a contender. With Scot and Trent behind the bench I sort of like their chances to make a solid move come district and regional play.

It use to be that we use to keep score to determine a winner and the better team. Bad ref calls were part of the game but the score ultimately determined the winner and the standings reflected who won the most games and ultimately was the better team.

NOW, we add fair play points and let the refs determine the better team in the standings based on something other than which team won the most games.

Bemidji is 19(or 20) W, 5 (or 4) losses and 1 tie.

They have beat Roseau, Warroad & East Grand Forks.
They have beat Grand Rapids, Moorhead, Maple Grove and Fergus Falls.
Theyhave beat Int'l. Falls.

Losses are to Warroad, Blaine, Duluth East, Rochester and ??? (not sure if it is 4 or 5 losses). Warroad and Rochester were their two worst games of the year (not that they are bad teams, but boys did not play their best).
Penalties are their biggest enemy (as with most teams).

They have 2 good goaltenders in Isensse (2nd year) and Graves (1st year).

Have played the last 4 games (starting with GRapids b/4 Christmas) without leading scorer, one otehr forward and missing 2D).
I believe all are back to good health now that they have had some time off.

They have a good combination of coaaches in old and steady and young and fiery.

I expect them to qualify for regions and have a good showing in Virginia at that event.

Not sure that the first Eagan game counts as they were playing with a temporary over-sized roster. But as long as it is listed.... (and what does it matter).
