Re: Class A...

Post by keepitreal »

I'm not saying that a Class A player can't be Ms Hockey, I'm only saying they might be judged tougher and maybe that's legitimate. Regardless of what kind of stats one rolls up in class A, there will always be those who say "yeah but what if she had to play AA?". I'm not sure the difference is that major, depending on schedule, but the implication surely exists. Marvin is an exceptional talent IMO, not the kind that comes along every year. And like ghs said, the supporting cast makes a difference too. With some teams, there's just no answer to all their weapons, so it might be easier for a player with a strong cast to succeed.

You have to truly admire players who can almost single-handedly elevate a team--players who are "double-teamed" and game-planned against yet still find a way to succeed-- those are the players who I feel are most deserving of consideration.

Naturally, to represent the pinnacle of girls HS hockey, they must be solid citizens, good students and leaders as well.

It would be difficult to suggest that anyone who makes top 5 or even top 10 in a given year would not be an excellent choice. At that point it's hair-splitting to decide the best of the best.

Not all A teams play weak schedules. I agree though that all accomplishments have to be considered in the proper context.

FACMAN says it best about this being Ms. "Hockey" too.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ckeyfan at: 4/8/06 11:16 am

Ms. Hockey 2007

Post by brookyone »

Just curious if anyone has additional related thoughts at this point, or if the candidate picture may have become any more clear to anyone...if even just a little. I'll probably add more comments as the season progresses from here. As of now, one thing I'm willing to go on record with is my belief that Maria Stoa belongs on the initial list of 10...at the very least.

I'm too biased to comment much beyond the fact that I saw Stoa, Feste, and Ludwigson play together yesterday in what I believe may have been one of the best G HS games that I've ever seen. They make a great line, and if I can find the "best line" thread I'll add them. My point of writing this is that Stoa is the most unselfish player you'll ever meet. It's never about Maria Stoa to Maria Stoa, and that - in addition to her talent - and who she is as a person is what makes me so biased and convinced that she needs to be near the top of this list for Ms Hockey 2007.

The most effective, and biggest game changing senior player that I have seen this year so far has to be Katherine Chute. Her and Stoa may be #1 and #2, in no specific order, by the end of the year.

Another interesting thing is that one of the best forwards here was moved to D this year to make her team better, Tarra Rasmussen. I don't know if she will get noticed there or not, as Amalee Windmeier, her teamate, is probably a better over all D.

I would list goalies like this, Nixon, then Thunder.

While a agree that Amy is a great D, have you ever seen Amalee Windmeier play, Katie Hoerner, Ashlan Lambert, Sandy Nelson, and so on? Their are a ton of great D in the class of 2007 to say just one.

Does a player from a class A school have a chance at this award?

Keen,

Both Gigi Marvin (05) and Andrea Nichols (03) are from class A.

i agree the class of 2007 has a very strong class. I have seen a majority of the players on the list play, including those 4, and i stand by my choice of Udvig.

The top five seniors that I have watched this year in order are:

Katharine Chute
Erin Cody
Maria Stoa
Katie Horner
Ashlan Lambert.

Lauren Smith, Kate Bacon and Melissa Feste are the best juniors that I have seen.

And Yes, I have watched Edina and BSM. Great Teams, no seniors that can crack this list.

I have not watch CDH, Coon Rapids or Bemidji.

I haven't seen too many girl's games this year, but as far as this award goes I believe that Laura May of Mahtomedi deserves serious consideration. With open enrollment running rampant in MN hockey she has stuck with her team since seventh grade when she could have very easily gone to a bigger school with more talent to surround her.

She is a very talented player with great character.

Good list. Have seen them all and concur. I have also seen CDH, CR and Bemidji--no one in the class of the players you mentioned. Have to repectfully disagree about BSM. Impossible not to consider Amanda Trunzo who leads a talent-rich team in both goals and assists. I do agree however that Chute is the one so far IMHO. Total package of speed, endurance, hands, vision and hockey sense. She is an absolutely relentless, unselfish two-way player who makes everyone else around her better. Just amazing.

Excellent take. And IMHO, Chute is #1 also, she is all that you say here. The whole game changes when she hits the ice, and every player on the ice with her picks their game up.

I beg to differ on the other, yes she should be concidered, but ask this question, does she make others around her better, or do others around her make her better?

Fair point rube. Could you make the same statement about Stoa with Feste and Ludwigson? After all, Feste is on your list of top juniors just as Bacon adds to Trunzo's effectiveness. Regardless of stats, I feel that EP, Blake and BSM (in no particular order) have the best first lines in the state and the linemates of these players undoubtedly contribute greatly to their success. (Individually, I feel Chute is on a different level than the others).

I like the fact you've put some D on your list too. As many have said, it would be great if there were seperate awards for Ms D and Ms F (along with Ms G) with the most impactful player being named Ms Hockey!

I don't want to get into comparisons, but Kate Bacon is easily one of the fastest players in the state, and if I were a Divsion I coach she would rank very high on my recruiting list. As they say "you can't coach speed" and Kate Bacon has the potential to really excel at the next level.

I would have to agree that Kate Bacon is one of the fastest around. Just curious - where did Kate play youth hockey?

Kristi Ellis Elk River defense would be my choice for a Ms. Hockey finalist. She has all the qualities for being a good candidate.

I'm with you 100%, no make that 200%. She is unreal, and she does it all by herself. Without her (and maybe the up and coming sophomore goalie they have) that team doesn't win half the games they've won this year. SHE DOES IT ALL BY HERSELF.

I would have to say Erin Johnson from Farmington has to be up there on the list!
