Cloquet vs. Wayzata

Post by MNHockeyFan »

Maybe the best of the north vs. a good Metro team? Wayzata has lost two in a row, to BSM (4-1) and Hopkins (3-0), and could use this game to get back on track.

Cloquet plays Centennial thursday, then goes back down to play Wayzata friday and stays down to play Eagan on Saturday. Tough schedule. I say Cloquet 2 Wayzata 1.

Cloquet is my favorite in this match up - 2 to 0 with Paige Thunder in net and strong forwards on the Lumberjack team.

I see where Cloquet lost a close one to Centennial last night - wonder if they can bounce back against a good Wayzata team. Wayzata will be anxious to get back on track after losing their last two to BSM and Hopkins. Cloquet and Wayzata have each played really tough schedules this year.

(Speaking of Hopkins, they are on a bit of a roll, only losing just one of their last nine, including a 6-1 win over Prior Lake and shutting out Wayzata 3-0 in their last two games).

After their 3-3 tie with a strong Edina team, I've have to give the nod to Cloquet in this one...4-2. Cloquet just doesn't let you in close to the net, prefering to give you the outside shot and let their good goaltending take it from there.

Interesting analysis here. I don't like to predict outcomes, just let 'em play. Could go either way, but I admire Cloquet for scheduling 3 games in 3 days against quality metro opponents (Centennial, Wayzata, Eagan). Obviously their coach is concerned with tuning up his team for sections and state than about overall records and mostly meaningless rankings.

Interesting that none of the four people above who picked a winner chose the right team. Wayzata wins 3-1.
