I should explain my previous post more clearly....my point is that saying that such and such 7th grader is leading her varsity team in scoring really doesn't say anything without knowing the circumstances. It doesn't predict that this player is going to be a star someday. I'm not against middle schoolers being on varsity teams--to see a success story in this regard, look at Simley this year. 13 middle schoolers on the varsity and they're more than competitive. With that excellent coaching staff, this team can legitimately be excited for the future. These girls have 'bought in' to the program, there don't appear to be prima donnas, they work very hard, and the longer they're in this system with these coaches, the better they're going to be. I guess I just think it's not very meaningful singling out certain girls as 7th graders in a Varsity HS forum if the point is to predict the future.

8th graders

Post by trilogy »

By no means was I implying that the 7th/8th graders are guaranteed to be rising stars. You never know, they might be peaking right now and slide into oblivion in the future.

It was just a curiousity to me to see how many of them are out there, after seeing a couple in person and wondering how common the 8th grader is on a line that is actually scoring. There are many more 8th grade names I found that I didn't even list that have lower points to date. And a few 7th too.

Give them credit this season, you never know what the next will bring.

She is the 5th leading scorer in the Metro. She can also put the puck in the net plus give up the puck nicely. She is very fast skater. She might be a top player in the state right now.

i completly agree. which is scary because shes in 8th grade. i am very excited to see her blossom, because knowing her work ethic she will only get better.

8th graders

Post by bghockey »

Two other 8th graders to keep an eye on are Afton Winzek of Andover and Taylor Kuehl of Mound Westonka. Both were Pee Wee A's last year and teammates on the 14U Minnesota Wild team the past two years with Rachel Bona, Hannah and Marissa Brandt and Sam Hanson. This is a talented group of girls. I believe a couple of them are only 7th graders.

Mankato West has a really good 8th grader by the name of Katy Kvasnicka. I believe she is currently sitting at 15 goals and 13 assists for the season. She is fun to watch.

Together this year again with her sister, the team is again ranked #1 and are undefeated as far as I can tell. Definetly a pair to watch!

you have heard correctly. her adopted sister, marrisa brandt is in 7th grade and used to be a figure skater, so she is naturally good at skating. she is good though

Veil (#10) for Blake. if she really is a 8th grader (not sure), look out for her.

8th Grade goalies making an impact

Post by thenewguy »

I have notice since watching the N Metro goalie that there are more 8th grade goalies who have posted good to great stats this year:

Chelsea Laden - Lakeville South
4-11-1 2.94 goals against .911%
plays in on of the toughest conferences in the state

Sam Stark - Northfield
11-14 3.46 goals against .897%
pretty tough conference on a below average team

Keshia Reuvers - Owatanna
7-12 3.05 goals against .909%
pretty good conference on average team

Any other 8th grade goalies with these kind of stats out there.

Also watch for Tianna Press. She played in goal for Hopkins' Bantam A team this year, and may decide to do so again next year as a 9th grader. She attends Benilde-St. Margaret's.

There is a an 8th grader from Eastview, a forward who was one of the leading goal scorers for her team.

Eden Parrie this year had to be one of the best offensive teams in the state even though they didn’t make it to the State Tourney. In a game with Lakeville South, as reported in the Star tribune, the 8th grade goalie from south made 62 saves on 65 shots. The puck almost never left Lakeville’s end and she made several incredible saves. She would have also have to be one of the top eighth grade potentials in the State.

I would check out the Classic Elite tournament this weekend at Blaine. I have heard the 1993 teams are pretty good. Which would be old 7th graders and 8th graders born after Jan1st 1993.

I could be wrong but I think as of 2007 Marissa Brandt is an 8th grader. I know that she is a 92 so unless she is in a lower grade she would be an 8th grader.

After this weekend games it would be safe to say that Sylvester and Amsley-Benzie of Warroad are the real deal and worth watching.
