Best National Anthem Team

Post by Johnny_Murphy »

Which Team looks the best during the anthem before games? I see so many teams with guys looking down at there feet, or shuffling around...

Every guy on GR has there helmet in the left hand, stick in the right, feet on the blue line, looking up at the flag, not leaving until the song is finished playing.

Both Lakeville schools are BRUTAL during the anthem. I'm sure their are more, but thats an example.

GR is my pick.

Hibbing Players do the same as Rapids, helmet in left, Stick in Rick and feet on the blue line, the thing would make it complete if they banged there sticks on the ice after the song is over.

Hibbing doesn't do that! They "always" stand at "Attention" until The VETS are completely off the ice and Old Glory has/had Lowered. That's class..

CEC has sticks in right hand and helmet wrapped in left arm standing straight and attentive. when its done, they do a wave of sort by lifting their sticks and doing a 180 before retreating to the goal for their team meeting. its rather classy

Benilde-St. Margaret's

My cousin played for that team and said that the coach (Ken Pauly) made it a point that they should stand up straight, helmet under left arm, stick out straight and look at the banner while the song is played. They look good.

All very good, though a nice added touch is when players are in numerical order and the goalies are on the neutral zone dots.

You can easily tell the coaches that make it a priority and those that don't.

Spitting during the anthem, say hello to the bench for a long while.

I agree with boblee on this one. That was a pretty cool way to start a game.

What if your goalies are like 30 and 33 or 31 and 35 or something...so they are next to each other?

There are special rules for goalies.

Just like a goalie can't be a captain.

Josh Howe is a sophomore goalie and he is a captain

It doesn't do anything though. The goalie isn't going to skate up to the penalty box to confer about a penalty that was just called or skate down to the other end (cross the red line and you get a penalty I believe) so giving a goalie a C is a waste IMHO.

The keeper can wear the C, he can be the spiritual leader on the bus, in the lockeroom or in the huddle, but when was the last time you saw a goalie skate to scores bench and approach an official. That would be delay of game.

The game captain must be a forward or defenseman.

I would have to disagree with both boblee and Johnny_Murphy, the one time i saw eveleth in virginia they stood at attention and didn't move at all until the whole song was over with stick in left and helmet in right. What seems so bad about that?

I think you're stretching it a bit there with the three minutes.

I think the best team I've ever seen during the national anthems is the Swedish world junior team. I got to watch em when they were in the GF and TRF and they all had blonde hair and Swedish mullets. It looked pretty sweet along with those uni's. I think the've got the sweetest lookin uni's in international hockey.

And what does that have to do with the Nat'l Anthem?
