Mound Westonka @ Orono

Post by MNHocker444 »

Last year this rivalry of series was split 1-1 with orono winning 3-0 and then blowing a 3-0 lead in the second game to lose 4-3 in OT. Both these teams go way back playing eachother and they are almost even in the overall series of their programs. Orono leads the series 35-34 with one tie. Whos gonna win @ orono thursday???

Key players
Orono: (10-5)
Forwards- Adam Randall (SR 26 pts), Zach Barnum (JR 21 pts)
Defense- Pat McClure (SR 25 pts), Jake Smith (JR 7 pts), Hayden Hanson (soph 5 pts)
Goalies-Taylor Peterson (SR, 717 minutes, 2.64 GAA, 90.4 SV%)
Luke Gardner (SR, 55 minutes, 1.64 GAA, 85.1 SV%)

Mound: (4-8-1)
Forwards- Riley Horgan (Soph 18 pts), Zach Johnson (JR 18 pts)
Defense- Casey Horgan (SR 8 pts), Ryan Hurd (JR 8 pts)
Goalies- Brian Nelson (JR 599 minutes, 2.86 GAA, 87 SV%)
Dan Swanson (Soph, 26 minutes, 5.19 GAA, 75 SV%)

I would love too see an upset but i think orono has too much firepower this year and mound will eventually wear down from oronos play and will result in a win for orono. What do you think??

Well thats really nice of you to put both back up goalies...finally good to see some recognition...but yea...i agree...might not be that high scoring...but i think Orono will take this one...Orono is to fast and has to much firepower as you said. Mound will make it a good game for the first 2...but Orono will over come them in the 3rd

3-1 Orono

This is an easy one, Mound destroyed Holy Family and Holy Family has been ranked above orono since the begining of the year until just recently. so obviously mound will destroy orono.

HAHAHAHA!!! Are you serious...Holy Family is terrible...ranks have nothing to do with how good a team is...just look at the stats from both teams...Orono will take this one for sure...Mound just isnt fast enough to skate with Orono...plus Orono's goaltending is by far better this year...

Oh that's right they just pull them out of a hat.

I forgot that's how they do it nowadays ...

In my opinion Holy Family is garbage and i was at the mound holy family game and holy family was terrible mound looked only decent. When i watch orono in their games they play good they are an unstoppable team. If orono comes to play they will win even if mound comes to play, but it will be a hell of a game to watch and a good atmosphere to be in with the rowdy fans.

I did not know that they plucked those rankings out of a hat, but they make more sense to me now. This game will be a close one but

I've seen both play. This game won't be close. Orono is stronger in every aspect of the game. Goaltending, defense, offense, transitional play and uneven situations. Not even close.

The Randall, Barnum, and Hanson line are very very good this year and really get up ice quick and with power. Will they contribute alot for orono this game???

yes, they will produce LOTS of goals this year. I am a scout for USHL and have seen a lot of this sections games this year. Hanson is going to be a very very good hockey player and there are a lot of people looking at him, this line is very good and will eat mound alive

If Hanson develops more stickhandling skills to go along with his speed, size and hell of a shot do you think he will be somewhere along the lines of a USHL/D1 college material??? He is one of the fastest kids I've seen on skates in class A this year.

bauerhock you are a joke
I am a scout for USHL and have seen a lot of this sections games this year.
In other threads you posted such great comments like:
warroad's new goalie is SICK.
i would definatley have to say that nate scmitt is up there and the kid from orono. those are A anyways, i havent seen many AA games
I have seen holy family play many times in the last two years
Sounds like a scout to me

Orono will take this one, but not without a good effort. History has shown that you need to through statistics out the window when these two teams play. The rivalry here is huge and anything can happen.

Peterson will have a strong game as he seems to always step it up under pressure. Game will be 3-1 with orono winning.

Ha well now you're going to love this analysis.

Peterson's regular stats:
Minutes GAA S%
717 2.636 .9026

Peterson's stats vs AA teams and ranked A teams:
Minutes GAA S%
462 3.75 .8917

He gives up more than a goal per game vs tougher opponents.
All in all, might wanna rethink your statement

every time his name comes up he has something bad to say about him
1) When else have I bashed him?

2) I don't think what I posted was unreasonable or anything ... I posted factual stats and I let the readers draw the conclusions for the most part

3) Is it possible that it's maybe the opposite; that you like him so much (teammate, friend, fan ... i dont know) that you don't want me posting these [factual] things? Or no?

Stats are one thing but they don't explain everything when it comes to high pressure situations

You're probably right that his S% is not as good against the AA and ranked A schools but also he has probably faced better shots becuase they are comening from better players so while i disagree on the fact that he ALWAYS steps it up for the harder games (not saying he doesnt just saying that his stats dont show it)but that becuase there are more quality shots from the players any goalie will have a worse of a S% its like comparing a goalies S% in the elite's to his high school record.

how does me saying that i havent seen very many AA games this year mean im not a scout, i dont scout AA schools, and i am a scout for the Waterloo Black Hawks out of Waterloo Iowa and i have seen holyfamily play a lot because i was supposed to look at their goalie smothers and earls, and minhocker444, yes i do think hanson could play USHL, he is very good and im sure will develop stickhandling skills
