I never realized how much nicer it is to be behind the bench than in the stands. And two of the worst offenders are a columnist for LPH and the parent of a goalie on one of the prominent girls teams in the areas. I had the misfortune of sitting behind these two jerks one game; I wish I had a tape recorder. They had nothing good to say about any player or the coaches in this particular game. Usually I don't get too excited about this type of stuff; except these two hold themselves out as promoters and autorities on the girls game.
The "in general" part of your point is so true, my husband and I love sitting in the stands near parents as honestly, its absolutely top notch comedy. We have attended nearly every SSP game the last 10 years, without having kids in the program, but we still have a rooting interest so I cant say we are 100% impartial, but no doubt, SSP parents are some of the worst. But my main point is we also make 10-15 games that interest us, and those especially are entertaining for the simple reason that we of course are completely impartial at those other games since we have no rooting interest, and therefore, watching impartially, you laugh hysterically at how nutso parents become about the "refs hosing" or how obvious "Betty is better than Mary", when in reality they are both average players etc. Its hysterical listening to people make such fools out of themselves and also you truly understand why coaches have so many problems with parents etc.

P.S. The "in particular" part of your point is even more funny. Didnt need to ask who one of them was anyway!!! You want good humor just ask MR LPH anything about SSP and the chances of getting some silly rant are better than 50-50, unless of course its between periods at the Kaposia in which case eating the free food takes priority and he will have to get back to you later!!!

parents are easy targets because they care so much about there kids that they sometimes have blinders on. But when it come right down to it they are the one person responsable for there kids and should be there child leading advocate, Bitching about who's better and who gets more ice time may be taking to far. But when coaches abuse there authority by playing faverites, or when coaches are unqualified (which about 20% of them seem to be) or when a coach becomes abusive who else is expected to stand up for there kids. oaches should learn to appreciate the parents input and maybe not just dismiss it as being from a bad parent because then they are asking for it to get worse. If they actually listioned and dealt with the problems brought up they wouldn't have so many problems because they wouldn't fester for years......and for the record I never have complained about a coach before even though I have dissagread with them at times.

Parents

Post by GoFigure »

I can always tell which parents were accomplished athletes in high school and college and which ones were not. The ones that bark the loudest live vicariously through their children. Don't have a CLUE about anything, but undoubtably their child is the best. I'm scared to see what these children turn out like as adults. Hopefully for them they are able to realize that college is a good thing, without a FULL RIDE, nothing in life is free so work for everything you have, and contribute to society by being a responsible adult and good role model to future youth. Those are the rules in my house, but them again, I accomplished everything I was capable of and knew that stats were against me for playing pro hockey, which of course these parents think there kids will. RIGHT!

This I will agree with, sort of. Just let them play hockey! Kids are kids.
