Neut asks a good question.

Its alot like the issue we had with computers at the turn of the century except way more serious.

I say we wing it and see what happens.

Former Twinkie Doug Mientkiewicz headed to the Yanks. This move was slightly overshadowed by the Yanks sending Randy Johnson back to the D-Backs for prospects.

Of course, it's possible the Yankees' sudden accumulation of young, cheap talent that would be acquired in both the Johnson and Gary Sheffield deals is leading to a mega-swap with the Twins, who've undoubtedly calculated (and fainted at) the cost of keeping Johan Santana after he becomes a free agent in two years. Cashman's army of youngsters might be the escape the Twins would need, given that Barry Zito is now earning $18 million per year.

It seems that the chances of Johan being a Twin after 2008 are slim to none right now. With the market so inflated and Johan being a 20-25 million dollar/year players, we're just not going to have the funds to re-up him. It's looking like we may be dealing him during the '08 season, hopefully we could get a king's ransom in return.

What does everyone think is going on in the heads of Terry Ryan and Dave St. Peter. I am curious what will happen now that the stadium has been approved. The Twins have a couple options. They can keep Santana around and re-sign him during his prime and keep the team competitive or are we going to see them deal him and use the new stadium as the draw and forget about being a contender for a few years.

I did a little research into attendance figures and new ballparks and it seems to me that a substantial increase is present during the first year and then it dissipates over the next 4 years. The model they used was a linear regression model that basically equates the biggest factor in attendance (which should come as no big surprise) to wins and previous years attendance. So it wouldn't surprise me to see Santana be dealt for some prospects so that Pohlad reaps the benefits of a new stadium. They cycle will continue...

Right now, I don't question Terry Ryan or St. Peter. They have done some bad moves, but for the last 5 years our team has been very competitive without having to spend over $100 million. There aren't many other teams that can claim that or the division titles like we have gotten. I trust them completely unlike the Vikings FO or McHale.

Its absolutely true that Ryan has done a much better job than the Vikings and Twolves.

He has done a much better job than anyone in MLB for that matter.

They have yet to poor a lot of money into just one or two pieces of the puzzle. This has to continue whether we like it or not.

I remember when they paid Puckett the 'big money' and couldnt sign anyone else. Puckett was in the OF but the rest of the team wasnt much to watch.

Sanatana wont finish his career as a Twin. But that doesnt mean the Twins wont continue to be competitive.

I watched the Astros/Twins game the other night on FSN. It featured the return of The Rocket vs Liriano. Liriano was brilliant.

It was played right around the time this thread got started and the Twins were in that great stretch of games when they hardly ever lost.

It was great for my cabin fever.

Do they have a regular schedule of rebroadcast games or is this just random fill in?
Anybody know?

No way we can keep Santana... I have to agree.

The best steps to take would be to:

1. Lock up Liriano. Now. I don't care if he has just had major surgery, you have to lock him up for quite a while.
2. Do the same for Mauer, Morneau, whoever elso you can as well. This is a great team, you can not mess it up.
3. Find something to do with Santana that we will not totally regret...

The only one that is not obvious is maybe one.

Mauer & Morneau are asking for $4-5 million in arbitration, what do you think it would take to lock them up for say 4-6 years?

Offer what money you can and hope that they actually want to stay in Minnesota, rather than leave like everyone else in baseball.

And hope Pohlad sells the team or something to someone who is willing to do this.

But free agency sickens me. If it wasn't for free agency, we'd have the best team in baseball.

Well fellas, amongst all the hockey action we have been following, old TR tried to slip this one in on us. I'm guessing this didn't even run in the Minneapolis/St. Paul locals.

MINNESOTA TWINS: Agreed to terms with C Matthew LeCroy on a minor league deal.

He's coming back.

So he is a DH/1B now? I watched his throwing debacle last year and there is no way the Twins should put him behind the plate. I'd rather see Rondell back there.

The one where like, four people stole on him in one inning. That was pretty funny.

I'd personally would rather have Babe Ruth's corpse, but whatever.

I believe LeCroy isn't a part of the Varsity's plan, this is TR's continuing mission to strengthen the JV club for another run at a AAA title.

By having Rochester's opponents steal four times in an inning??

Why would he do that IS? He has a young catcher on the AAA team that needs the work

I think we will see old Matty on the roster cuz Gardy wants 3 catchers so he can DH Mauer when Redmond catches and feel safe.
