Nobody ever expects a strong back hand shot. Having one is lethal!

unless its a onetimer, goalies would definatley prefer slapers b/c it gives them time to get on the angle. i find that backhands are underrated.

Snapper kept low and on the move... very hard for the tender to react..plus allows a lot of rebound opportunities.

the best shot is the one that puts the black rubber disc in the net.

I say a quick, low, hard snap shot that is taken while the player keeps his feet moving. It is very hard for the goalie to read the shot and to react. Plus, the hard low shot creates more "fat" rebounds.

It all depends on the player, position, or opportunity.

-A snapper is great for getting a quick one off if your on a rush, it's usually pretty accurate too.

-A wrister is good for velocity if you're looking to put it in one of the "holes", and is probably the favorite choice for the snipers.

-If you're a good D man, a slapper is a good shot. I remember watching Kevin Shattenkirk play for the U17 team at the showcase in Blaine, he scored two goals both by slapshot. He just had a good screen in front and all he had to do was just place it. It takes a lot of skill to place a slapper like he did. Slapshots are extremely tippable if they're on the ice too, which goalies hate.

- A longer distance backhand is pretty unexpected if you're a goalie. It can be a pretty lethal shot if you can get a good one off.

A hard, accurate snap shot is the toughest for the goaltender to defend. Back hands are good if your in close or dekeing, slap shots are probably the lowest percentage wise but a loww slapper can produce rebounds that can be capitalized on. Wrist shots are also good.

As a coach in youth hockey nothing irritated me more than seeing kids always working on their big slapshot. Until you could show me that you had a good wrist/snap shot & backhand a slapshot was not allowed. Even at the highschool level alot of kids have weak backhands. This is my favorite shot and tenders have no idea where it is going. The best compliment I ever received was from a goalie after the game that told me my backhand was faster than most guys wristshots. A good slapshot maybe important for a d-man if he can hit the net. However these rockets miss the target too often & when they do strike the rebounds seem to bounce out away from the net.

We to had a cannon that we used to shoot pucks at our tenders but found it was too heavy and not mobile enough to use in the games.

It could be effective in a shootout though.
