Cloquet and Duluth Marshall are top teams from the Lake Superior and were both ranked in the top 2 of their respective classes at the same time.

Mariucci= Moorhead, Roseau, Warroad, Thief River Falls, Bemidji, Crookston, East Grand Forks.

Not all maybe annual powers but not a patsy in the bunch either.

Bigsexy...no chance for any Lake team to make it to state....at all? So you are saying that there is no possible way for Lakeville North or South to win 1AA? No chance for Eastview, Eagan, Rosemount, Valley, or Burnsville to upset AHA in 5AA? (look what happened last year, how many people were expecting that) Or no chance for EP, Jefferson, or Chaska to win 6AA? Come on, are you serious??

As far as Lakeville North or South winning 1AA you are absolutly correct and same for eagen rosemount AV Burnsville and Eastview for possible upset winners in 5AA but in 6AA (no offense) but i really seriously doubt any of the Lake teams will win it with Edina Benilde and Tonka also being in the same section. But otherwise it was a pretty good point......

I can see North maybe going, but I will have to say that others will have a very tough time. There is only one team in the Lake that may beat AHA and that team is Eastview. I would guess that when the section assignments come out Apple Valley would get the fourth or fifth seed so that they play AHA. They have continually been a thorn in the side of AHA, but they are not the same team as last year and AHA is as good if not better than last year.... In section 6AA, I would not count out Jefferson or EP just yet. Jefferson knows the playoff system and will step up, but I think Edina will win this one... Won't know for a few weeks....

Northwest Suburban Conference
Centennial 9- 1-0 12- 4-0
Blaine 8- 1-0 11- 5-0
Elk River 8- 2-0 11- 5-0
Anoka 6- 4-0 11- 6-0
Maple Grove 6- 4-0 9- 8-0
Champlin Park 4- 6-0 8- 9-0
Coon Rapids 3- 6-0 5- 8-2
Osseo 3- 7-0 6- 9-0
Andover 1- 8-0 4-12-0
North Metro 0- 9-0 6- 9-0

what is so special about that? Blaine is the only team that has a chance to go to state. Yes, this conference has been great in the past, but this year it is average.

I'm curious what people think makes a top conference.

If it is representatives in state (which I do not think is true) it would be Classic Suburban probably (which isn't close to true).

Totally talent, probably Mariucci.

If it's depth, you can't take much away from the Lake, having 12 good teams counts for a lot.

It's different depending on how you look at it.

OH now I get it... your actually think Class A teams would compete with the BIG DOGS of Class AA. Sorry I was only thinking of AA.

OK, then. Since most of the "Big Dogs" don't play any of the top A teams, let's look at a few that did:

Duluth Marshall 4, Cretin-Derham Hall 2
Benilde-St. Margaret's 3, Duluth Marshall 2
Hibbing 3, Grand Rapids 3
Cloquet 3, Hibbing 1
Roseau 2, Totino-Grace 1
Roseau 3, Warroad 1
Thief River Falls 2, Moorhead 2
Grand Rapids 5, Virginia 4
Warroad 2, Eastview 2

Im sure there are others, but I'd say that's pretty competetive...

1-2 goal games are competitive. There are others. Maybe not the so called big dogs but some medium and small ones that went to the A teams. Not the big dogs in A beating the little ones of AA either.

Um by big dogs you obviously don't mean best in AA. Moorhead, Roseau. Cloquet, Grand Rapids, pretty "BIG DOGS" in my book.

Indeed! Last I checked, Benilde was a top 10 team and Eastview is in the top 20 as well. hast-h-fan apparently only includes the SEC teams when he refers to "Big Dogs".

Actually, the thread was about the "Best conference in the state", not about the SEC. But your poll left off 3 of the top 5 or 6 conferences to choose from.

The results may be accurate if you labeled the thread best metro conference. Mariucci is the best.
