I know of 4 from Moorhead

Matt Cullen (NY Rangers)
Mark Cullen (Philadelphia Flyers) in the minors now
Jason Blake (NY Islanders)
Ryan Kraft (San Jose Sharks)i think he either retired or is back in the minors

According to "Legends of Hockey" - GR has 8 former players who played in regular season action in the NHL.

Disingenuous, maybe. I didn't know his story prior to reading that strib article. In any case it sounds like he is a product of the Roseau youth system to a large degree. Who else could "claim" him?

I only mentioned it because the thread topic is which HIGH SCHOOL produced the most NHL players. If he never played high school hockey in Roseau, then it's not strictly accurate to count him....Not a big deal, just an observation.

You can add Rohloff, but Kleinendorst and Malwitz never played an NHL regular season game.

Last night I was watching the EP-GR game that was on FSN about a month back. They even said on there. Grand Rapids has produced 16 NHL players.

I would guess it is between Rapids, Cloquet, Roseau, or Warroad but it would only be a guess.

I was thinking of the same thing...It's been awhile since I have been at the ER rink but I believe they have 2 or 3 big murals of past players out side the rink that are playing in the NHL. I forget who they are though.

Dustin did play some high school but it was JV. That is still considered high school by Roseau Ram terms and that is why I have him on the list. He is a Roseau kid and Roseau is proud of him.

Than I guess Grand Rapids and Greenway should both be able to claim Jon Casey. Of course I am not sure why Grand Rapids has any claim to his abilities but that is another debate.

Heard Kleinendorst played with his brother on the Rangers. Went to school with Malwitz's sister and attended a North Stars game in which he played. Was on a line with Broten - Lawton. They called it the Broten - Lawton - Rotten line.

I'm going to guess that the North Star game you saw Malwitz play in was a pre-season game. A great web site for this sort of thing is www.hockeydb.com, where they have every player who ever played an NHL game. Both that site, and Legendsofhockey.net, show that Malwitz and Kurt Kleinendorst never played a regular season NHL game.
