South St Paul @ Hill Murray 1-30-07
The Packers (9-10) of South St Paul travel to Maplewood to play the Pioneers (15-2-1) of Hill Murray in the Aldrich Ice Arena. While most would say that the Packers have no shot, they are one of only three teams to score more than 2 goals this season against Hill Murray in a single game. The others being Holy Angels and Duluth East. And Hill Murray didn't beat them as badly as other conference opponents who beat the Packers. Is the program on the rise again? Do the Packers have a shot at the upset?

I'm sure if you really want you could ask Lee really nicely to take the poll off this thread. Personally I haven't seen So St Paul play this year, so instead of having 30 people come on here and predict blowouts I was hoping people who have seen them could come on here and talk about So St Paul's play.
I saw them play twice at thier own tourney.
They picked apart a Kennedy team that had 15 skaters and freshman goalie with no back-up.
Anoka dismantled them in the 2nd game. They really don't have much going from what I've seen. A couple of their forwards can go north-south pretty quick, but they didn't go to the net well. The only win they have this season that's even remotely impressive is against Tartan. Every other win is against teams that would be considered "lower tier" (Como, Johnson, Sibley, Simley, NSP).
They don't stack up to H-M.

Hill won 11-1
SSP had there whole first line out sick, including there starting goalie.
There back up goalie started the JV game and then got taken out half way through, then started the varsity game. what made me mad was Hill had Larson-Furne-Zepeda out in the last period, which started 9-0. not very good sportsmanship i thought

Richfield
Hill did the same thing against Richfield earlier this year!
Richfield is thin at defense anyway and they had one of their best D out for that game. Guggs was not in nets either.
But Hill kept running their top line out every other shift until the very end of a 11-2 game! Richfield was giving the 3rd & 4th lines alot of playing time in the third period also.
Maybe the should have scheduled Mpls. East & West and threw in North Branch if they wanted to pad Larson's stats so bad!
I only hope Gugg's bits them in the @ss this Saturday!
Maybe that 6 ft. 7 in. 270lbs. MONSTER on Richfield can catch Larson with his head down!

I suppose Larson needs to pad his stats in hopes that he draws some attention from college coaches, maybe even a D1 school or two, hell maybe even the Gophs. Oh wait, he already has all that...nevermind.
Just because SSP was short some players doesn't mean HM should lay down. They rolled all 4 lines and played all their D. A 2nd line guy & a 4th line guy had hat tricks, it's not like Larson had 8 goals or anything. You are taught to play the game a certain way & you go out and play. If the opposition can't handle it, then that's on them. Should they have just played keep-a-way and not shoot on net? It was what it was, just another conference win for Hill. They are trying to improve and get ready for a tough section. Sitting players or having the guys "pull back" because of an inferior opposition would not be progress. Worry less about the other team and focus more on your own!

You can't just sit your top line for a period in HS hockey. The season is so short as it is.Rossbury21 wrote:Hill won 11-1

I was at the game too. What is Lechner supposed to do? He played all 4 lines. He played his backup goalie. He experimented with some line changes. Already mentioned - Cecka on the 2nd line had a hat trick & Widing on the 4th line had two. The 3rd period was all running time so it went fast. The game was over in 1-1/2 hours. South St. Paul played hard throughout - unlike North St. Paul last week. SSP had 16 shots and some good chances. NSP parked 3 guys in front of the net and never played any offense. Their only plan was to keep the score down. It made for a very ugly game. NSP had 7 shots and probably none of those when it was 5 on 5.

Who did they play, again?
