This is a cool site...has a nice list. However, it has some mistakes on it when it comes to where certain guys played their high school hockey.
It had Mark Osiecki as a former White Bear player when we all know he played for his dad at Burnsville.
Some guys it does not tell their high school team at all, but overall it is cool to look over the career stats, etc.

Re: Edina's list
Thanks for the list...However, I don't find any evidence that Thayer,Burke or Chapman ever played in the NHL...That would leave Edina with six, but I suspect there's more.DumpandChase1 wrote:This is just off the top of my head for Edina.
Bill Nyrop
Brian Burke
Larry Thayer
Craig Norwich
Dave Maley
Wally Chapman
Paul Ranhiem
Ben Hankinson
Casey Hankinson
There are a few more, but it is too late to think and I need more beer.
Re: Edina's list
Well, Burke, Thayer, and Chapman never played in the NHL. I think Thayer dressed as a backup goalie for the North Stars during the regular season, but didn't get into the game. Burke, of course has been an NHL general manager for several teams, currently for Anaheim, but he never made it as a player. Wally never made it, either.DumpandChase1 wrote:This is just off the top of my head for Edina.

Here are four others who did:
Mike Lauen (Winnipeg)
Dan Plante (Islanders)
Bruce McIntosh (North Stars
Gord Hampson (Flames)
As for Osiecki showing up as a White Bear Lake player instead of Burnsville: Maybe he was born in WBL. Bios for Darby Hendrickson and Brett Hauer--two Richfield HS players--sometimes say they're from Edina because that's where the the hospital in which they were born is. Fairview Southdale is in Edina, but very close to the Richfield border.

[quote="puckstopper"]Eveleth
Al Suomi
Aldo Palazarri
Frank-Mr. Zero- Brimsek
Joe Papike
Milton "curly" Brink
Sam LoPresti
Al LoPresti
Pete LoPresti
Paul Schaefer
John Mariucci
Doug Palazarri
Mark Pavelich
Brink, Schaefer and Karakas are verified additions from the earlier Eveleth list, but I can't find Al LoPresti as as NHL player. So that makes the Eveleth total:
1. Frank Brimsek
2. Pete Lopresti
3. Sam Lopresti
4. John Mariucci
5. Aldo Palazarri
6. Doug Palazarri
7. Joe Papike
8. Mark Pavelich
9. Al Suomi
10. Mike Karakas
11. Milton Brink
12. Paul Schaefer
I think we'll have to concede that Eveleth High School has produced the most NHL players of any Minnesota high school, unless anyone else has a credible challenge to their total of 12.

Re: Edina's list
That's a good list of some obscure players...Lauen only played 3 games in the NHL, and McIntosh only played 2!Duluthguy wrote:Well, Burke, Thayer, and Chapman never played in the NHL. ...Putting them in second place behind Eveleth, and our standings are now:
Eveleth 12
Edina 10
Grand Rapids 9
Roseau 9
Anyone else out there?

That could be....however, it listed his stats as from WBL on that website.
But you do make a good point. Jamie Langenbrunner was born in Duluth, but of course played for Cloquet.

No, we had Ahlin on the list already..Eveleth still at 12puckstopper wrote:I just checked and found someone I had forgotten for Eveleth's total. Rudy Ahlin would bring the number for Eveleth to 13.
highschoolhockeyfan: The question asked at the top of the thread was which high school produced the most NHL players...So we've been trying to go by school, not by birthplace. And we've tried only count guys who actually played a regular-season NHL game...Not just drafted, or played in pre-season before being cut or played in the minors.

Show me where the town of Hill-Murray is on a map. I've been around a long time and never seen a Hill-Murray youth hockey team. Show me one birth certificate that says place of birth: Hill-Murray. Shattuck is a "high school", if they weren't why are they in the MSHSL in every sport but hockey? Why can Holy Angels play them? Don't the kids leave there with a diploma? So when Kyle Okopso applied for admission at the U where did his transcripts come from?
BTW Prep school is short for College Prepatory Program, most every high schools offer that, they just also offer vocational programs where Shattuck does not. Blake is not a high school it is a "college prepatory day school" their words not mine. Same with Breck, Hill-Murray, and 14 others in Minnesota. Officially it's Hill-Murray School, not Hill-Murray High.
You also use 1 of the Stuart boys as an example of a Lourdes kid, he played 1 year at Lourdes before leaving, same as Crosby played at Shattuck
So, again, show me why Hill-Murray is different from Shattuck other than one chooses to play hockey in the MSHSL and one doesn't.
Well said Goldy...
The only difference between Shattuck and the "Cherry Picker" Schools is that they have had more success from abroad. Don't fool yourself, if Sydney Crosby wanted to go to Hill Murray School, they'd have taken him and added him to their list of NHLers. And furthermore asked him for a healthy alumni donation every year.

Damian Rhodes is a good catch....Interesting fellow who didn't get tons of publicity in either high school or college, but managed to play in over 300 NHL games. In Hendrickson, Christoff (who played over 200 games in the NHL) and Rhodes that's three high-quality alums that Richfield can be proud of.
