Yes, even if you transfer to a private school you need to sit out. My guess is more than normal will just start out as freshman....But they still have to apply and get into the school. There is a procedure in place.
And as for boblee....he just does not like the private school......he knows better, but needs to just keep pushing the buttons....

Yes, but the ability to transfer from a public to private school has been taken away also. If anything, this has occurred more often than private school kids transferring to public schools. So I still don't understand why the rule change will give private schools any extra advantage.gopher9 wrote:Yes that is my point. The reason you don't understand it is because you think everyone on a private school team transfered after 9th grade when in fact there are very few. The few that did transfer would likely do it earlier under the new rules.
The T'breds will be the big winner here and many feel there will be enough people frustrated with this rule that a second team may spring up.

I agree, I think players who get stuck in a bad situation will look to go to t-breds rather than sit out a year. This will help them, and hurt all of the HS league (both public and private).

The transfer debate is over now but in trying to figure out how it will impact the coming years the people in favor of the new rules are going to have to come to grips with the fact that getting out of a bad situation was the main reason for leaving, not trying to form a super team, go to state or get noticed. The new rule does nothing to change this.

So I guess the consensus is that the rule change will affect public and private schools equally, in terms of transfers occuring after 9th grade begins, but the big winner could be the Thoroughbreds and possibly another alternative club team that develops? That kids public or private who become dissatisfied for whatever reason would join such a club rather than sit out a season of varsity?
I agree that for a younger kid who is "on the fence" about whether to go to a private school will have to think this through a lot more before making her decision. But it's difficult to say now whether this will help the private school programs more than under the current rules. For those who are "on the fence" and could go either way, I can see where the decision to leave their U12A or U14a teammates, knowing that they couldn't come back if they made a bad decision, could actually become more difficult.

I think your points are valid but if you look at the typical player that transfers there is not a strong bond with their U12-14 teammates to start with.
Another thing to consider is this, if you play U12-14 but are going to a private middle school, you can't play JV with all those 7-8th graders that leave youth to go JV. This actually drives these players away from their "teammates".
Another case is the strong 7-8th grader that plays varsity because they are better than their teammates. Going into 9th grade they may decide those kids will never catch up and it's better to go elsewhere.
The new rule only makes you decide a year earlier and the T'Breds are there for those that feel they made a mistake.
