I agree, and it is not a bad idea.

Let the catchers catch and the hitters play elsewhere.

We all certainly questioned why a .300 hitter in Redmond couldn't DH once in a while last year. Though at the same time we all knew why, Gardy didn't want to see our pitchers having to bat in the #3 hole at the end of a game that Mauer had to leave. And Gardy was right, the way that season ended, every darn W was needed.

The extra catcher makes sense, and though Matty signed a minor league deal, I know they want him to be on the 25 man roster as the third reciever.

My question is, why him? Isn't there another carcass out there that can hit .240, catch 15 innings, start 4 games at first base, and run faster than an elderly, disabled, pregnant woman suffering from vertigo.

Give me Todd Pratt for two weeks in February, at least take a look at him, he's 41, but at least I'm not 110% sure he is bad.

Another signing, veteran right-hander Ramon Ortiz signs a 1 year, 3.1 million dollar deal with the Twins. He's had a few good seasons mired by several more dreadful ones. It seems like they're holding open calls for starters behind Santana, make sure you get a good spot in line.

Is Ramon Ortiz also Russ Ortiz?

No, Russ Ortiz is better.

Ramon could be pretty good. I don't know if I am alone, but I have such faith in Gardy & Anderson that I see hope in any pitcher that we sign. I actually prefer getting guys with good stuff but can't settle because I think that they can straighten them out no problem. Too bad they couldn't work on Boone as well...

The real reason they signed Matty LeCroy: Pinch hitting with the bases loaded. 8)

I think it has to be for the clubhouse aspect too. He knows everybody and his personality will help keep other players loose. 8)

Probably doesn't hurt that he only costs 500,000, too.

He is a great guy to have in the clubhouse. If he only plays but once every 2 weeks, that's fine with me. I just hope to God Mauer and Redmond have good health, because LeCroy behind the plate for any stretch of time is an ugly sight.

Thats great. Interest is at an all time high.

But TR needs to capitalise on that. Sign a slugger. Do it.

I know, it will hurt at first. But do it. It will feel better later. Rub a little dirt on it.

He blew it when he didnt sign Frank Thomas last year.

Come on Terry.... Carl. Lets go.

Its funny. We talk about the Twins as a team that relies on its farm system to win. Thats true but whats also true is we have relied on freeagency to win chamiponships.

Blyleven, Reardon, Gladden in '87; Pags, Brian Harper , Chili Davis and Gladen in '91.

Key figures in winning those world series.

Lets go. Get somebody else who can hit the ball.

Empire has his Opening Day & vs the Yankees tickets. Can't wait!

I agree, we are 1 bat away from being a premier team. Carlos Lee would have fixed that.

I was 8-3, all regular season. I caught them a few times during their hot streak.

Looks like the Twins and Joe Mauer are talking about a 4 year, 33 million dollar deal.
