Best assistant coaches
Moderators: Mitch Hawker, east hockey, karl(east)
This might be a subject for its own thread, but I'd like to know about all the former Minnesotan college players (women) who are now coaching (head or asst) at the high school level. I know about C.Brodt at Roseville (JV head coach), Kris Scholz, Amber Heglund, Natalie Lamme (goalie coach at Sibley) and Maureen Hardwick (asst at Eastview), but there must be many more. No offense to all the guys like GHS who do a great job, but eventually isn't this the direction girls' hockey should take?
True the future lies in the new breed of college women coming up, even though lance Carlson is awesome he won't be around forever. the key is to get some of these young women who have played college hockey into the existing systems so when coaches retire there will someone that can step in that is capable of taking a program to a new level (college experiance) while still retaining consistancy in the program. bringing in good women who have played a higher level of hockey is the future of womens hockey

Speaking of founding fathers both Mr. Granley and Mr. Newton from GRG lightning were the founding fathers in their respective hockey communities (Greenway and Rapids), and do a wonderful job with the Varsity. I love this thread because not enough is said about the important role coaches other than the head coach, have in creating a successful year for the athletes in their program. (communication, relationships, support for the girls, dealing with parents in the quiet corners of the arena, etc...) hats off to all assistant coaches, its a very difficult job...

I never said that they only had one coach to give the credit to, but from talking to previous Pirate players and some still under their coaching staff, they all say the same thing, that they wouldn't be where they are today without coach Persson's help. So do i think he's the only one to get credit for this team? No! But he deserves a big part of it, and any player you talk to would tell you the same. And as for bounces, did you happen to hear how the third goal vs Roseau went in? Talk about a lucky bounce, and it won them the game. So again i say good luck to the girls and the Whole coaching staff!!!I will come down to your level for just one moment ripinitup to clear your mind. Win or lose all coaches are in this thing together, as I said before there is no "I" in team. Based on your previous statements the Pirates only had one coach that should receive the credit for their success. Also as far as your bounce theory teams need to create their own bounces to win. Are you by chance a BB player? GO PIRATES

Well I'm glad to see that we are on the same page when it comes to giving credit where credit is do. I did see the lucky goal scored by Roseau, it was not a lucky bounce but a poor play by the tender. But what the heck, did you see Bina's goal against the Gophers it can happen to anyone. Hopefully Robbie will be playing Friday night the Sioux are going to need him. Anyway good luck to the lady Pirates in tournament play. GO PIRATES

Some people may question what I have to say here but Tim Persson of the Crookston Pirates is one such person. While head coach Moe brings stability to the team, Persson brings the fire like him or not. He works the girls relentlessly in practice which carries over into the games. He is a true warrior and instills the winning attitude into his players. Some people may think he is too tough on the girls and maybe even a little cocky, but I feel this is a big part of the teams success. As a hockeymom I have grown to understand that I need to stand back and let the coaches do their job. The results speak for themselves. Go Pirates
Congratulations to you & the Crookston Pirates on a great season and for being a top notch assistant coach. You are Mamma's #1 assistant coach of the year.
