McDonagh highest ranked Minnesota high schooler

Post by mnprideonice07 »

According to Charley Walters, columnist for the Pioneer Press,

"The highest-ranked Minnesota high school player by the NHL's Central Scouting is Cretin-Derham Hall defenseman Ryan McDonagh at No. 12. McDonagh will attend Wisconsin"

It's a factual statement. So I can't disagree with him.

It's not really a question if you agree with Charley or not, it's a question if you agree with the NHL Central Scouting Report and I think those guys know their hockey.

That ranking is from the midterm CSS rankings released about a month ago.

The list looks OK to me. I don't know hockey like they do, but i would switch up a few players

obviously the scouts understand the game of hockey. but i no there are some players not on the list that are better than some players on the list. being a great high school players doenst make you an nhl interest, if you look at the list alot of the players that are ranked high are big kids(tall i should say). the list is a bit misleading in my opinion , but there are still great players on it. if there are kids from the northwest suburban conference on here , (not to bash it there are good players in there) but i have seen many players in the lake , even missota that are better than some of those kids that didnt make the list. i think polacek deserves to be on the list as well.

McDonagh is the best hs player in the state. He is also projected to be a first rounder for many reasons including his skating ability, size, puckhandling and vision.

There are many very good high school players that do not make the list of top 205 NA skaters due to (lack of) size, inadequate skating ability and other skills but the top skill is skating ability. If you can't skate extremely well, you don't make the list. Ask anyone who scouts for CSS or an NHL team.
